The well-known Dark Channel Prior (DCP) dehazing algorithm does not work well in the sky area, thus, we propose an image dehazing method for segmented sky regions based on Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). First, we apply PSO to the Otsu segmentation method to accurately segment sky and non-sky regions in the hazy image. Second, the transmission of non-sky regions is derived by DCP. A transmission compensation method is proposed to obtain the transmission for the sky regions. The transmission is then refined by gradient-domain guided filtering. Finally, the restored haze-free image is obtained through the Atmospheric Scattering Model (ASM). Quantitative and qualitative experiments show that the proposed method has a better dehazing effect, especially for hazy images with the sky areas. © 2022 IEEE.

In this article, an analytical solution of the problem of bending a round plate with an initial curvature is obtained. A round plate with an initial curvature as a structural element is widely used, the calculation of which leads to many questions related to the design of round Foundation plates, turbine disks, flexible shaft connections and other. The nonlinear theory of round flexible plates provides the key to explaining the process of loss of stability, which often leads to complete destruction of the structure. Therefore, there is a high need for analytical methods for solving problems of calculating the stress-strain state of round flexible plates, taking into account the initial curvature. These problems are mathematically reduced to differential equations with variable coefficients, the exact solution of which, as a rule, does not exist. The novel series of 3-actyl phenylthiazolidine-4-carboxyamide derivatives were prepared and described for their possible applications against prostate cancer cells. These amide thiazolidines include many substituents on a phenyl ring such as 3-NO2, 4-COCH3, 3,4,5-tri-OCH3, 3,4-di-OCH3, benzoyl and diphenyl. The structures of these amide thiazolidines were characterized by FTIR, 1H, 13C-NMR, and mass spectroscopy. Biological activity assays, applying the MTT assay for PC3 cells were shown to evaluate the bio-activity of these amide thiazolidines. The amide thiazolidines revealed promising cytotoxic, exactly, amide thiazolidines TAM1 (IC50 = 75.95 µg/ml) and TAM2 (IC50 = 79.82 µg/ml) displayed notable strength against PC3 cells. The molecular docking against DNA Gyrase, two types of protein (1SJO and 4HJO) and enzymes exposed strong binding interactions of an examined molecule inside their active sites, creating them valuable applicants for further development as therapeutic agents against human prostate cancer cell line (PC3). Strong total first hyperpolarizability βtot up to 2766.67 a.u. has been achieved for the TAM1. A direct correlation was achieved between the total hyperpolarizability βtot and the energy gap Eg and between the βHRS and β//. This study will provide more insights into exploring novel thiazolidines revealed promising cytotoxic, and nonlinear optical thiazolidines and progressing in technologies that rely on manipulating and controlling light for various purposes, such as optical signal processing, and photonics and photorefractive devices. © 2025, The Authors. The large-scale arbitrarily divisible load scheduling has been solved effectively by periodic multi-installment scheduling (PMIS), but there are relatively few studies on coarse-grained divisible loads. Therefore, we propose a coarse-grained multi-installment scheduling model in this paper, named CMIS. Two crucial issues were solved: First, an optimal load partition was derived through a strict mathematical derivation; Second, an optimal number of installments was obtained between the subtle upper and lower bounds we found. Finally, we compare the proposed model with an up-to-date model and the experimental results show that the proposed model outperforms the existing model in obtaining a shorter makespan.

In recent years, object detection technology has developed rapidly and is widely used in the field of intelligent video monitoring, especially in the classroom scenes, where incorporating the intelligent object detection technique into the video monitoring systems for intelligent monitoring purpose has important practical significance. However, surveillance videos may encounter issues such as object occlusion, motion blur, posture changes, and video defocus, which poses great challenges to object detection in the surveillance video scenarios. Therefore, in this paper, we conduct in-depth research on human detection in classroom multi camera surveillance video scenes and propose a multi frame feature fusion network based on the attention mechanism. The algorithm first adds the dilated convolution layers to the ResNet50 backbone network to expand the receptive field and retain more feature information; Secondly, a multi frame feature fusion strategy based on the attention mechanism was proposed to enhance the feature representation ability of the deep detector by fusing the feature information of adjacent frames, thereby improving the accuracy of human detection in the classroom monitoring video. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, we have compiled and produced a large-scale classroom monitoring video dataset, named OUC-ClassVideo. The proposed object detection network, which is developed based on the attention mechanism and multi frame feature fusion strategy, has achieved satisfactory performance on both the public dataset ImageNet VID and the OUC-ClassVideo dataset collected by ourselves.

Owing to rapid progress in field of nanotechnology, various mathematical model has been proposed regarding the flow of nanofluids. Based on boosted thermal properties, multidisciplinary applications of such materials has been claimed in various engineering and industrial processes. In current work, a theoretical analysis is performed for bioconvective flow of Carreau fluid with applications of magnetic dipole. The significance of magnetic dipole are presented with interaction of ferrofluid. The applications of viscous dissipation have also been entertained. The flow is subject to applications of stretched surface. Similarity variables are used for making transformation to obtain set of nonlinear ODEs from set of PDEs. The numerical computation is also made by using of well-known numerical method termed as bvp4c. Influences of various non dimensional fluid parameters like Brownian motion, viscous dissipation, Curie temperature, Weissenberg number, motile difference parameter and bioconvection Paclet number are examined and expressed graphically. It is perceived that ferrofluid's concentration declines when Brownian diffusive variable is augmented while opposite characteristics are reported for Schmidt number. Current results conveying applications in the biofuels, better heat transport medium, fertilizers, catalysts, electronics, paints, semiconductors, speakers, drug delivery, fertilizers etc. © 2024 The Author(s)

Evaluating Interpolation and Extrapolation Performance of Neural Retrieval Models

A retrieval model should not only interpolate the training data but also extrapolate well to the queries that are different from the training data. While neural retrieval models have demonstrated impressive performance on ad-hoc search benchmarks, we still know little about how they perform in terms of interpolation and extrapolation. In this paper, we demonstrate the importance of separately evaluating the two capabilities of neural retrieval models. Firstly, we examine existing ad-hoc search benchmarks from the two perspectives. We investigate the distribution of training and test data and find a considerable overlap in query entities, query intent, and relevance labels. This finding implies that the evaluation on these test sets is biased toward interpolation and cannot accurately reflect the extrapolation capacity. Secondly, we propose a novel evaluation protocol to separately evaluate the interpolation and extrapolation performance on existing benchmark datasets. It resamples the training and test data based on query similarity and utilizes the resampled dataset for training and evaluation. Finally, we leverage the proposed evaluation protocol to comprehensively revisit a number of widely-adopted neural retrieval models. Results show models perform differently when moving from interpolation to extrapolation. For example, representation-based retrieval models perform almost as well as interaction-based retrieval models in terms of interpolation but not extrapolation. Therefore, it is necessary to separately evaluate both interpolation and extrapolation performance and the proposed resampling method serves as a simple yet effective evaluation tool for future IR studies. This article aims to compare forecasting techniques with machine learning techniques for predicting the number of people injured in road accidents using data from the Injury Information Collaboration Center, department of Disease Control, Ministry of Public Health Outpatient Files (OPD) spanning the years 2018 to 2022. The four machine-learning techniques examined in this study include Decision Tree Regression, Random Forest Regression, Support Vector Regression, and Multiple Linear Regression. The data analysis was performed using the R programming language. The results revealed that the Decision Tree Regression technique yielded the most accurate predictions for the number of road traffic injuries, as evidenced by its lowest values of MAE, MSE, and RMSE.

Synthetic data generation is one approach for sharing individual-level data. However, to meet legislative requirements, it is necessary to demonstrate that the individuals’ privacy is adequately protected. There is no consolidated standard for measuring privacy in synthetic data. Through an expert panel and consensus process, we developed a framework for evaluating privacy in synthetic data. Our findings indicate that current similarity metrics fail to measure identity disclosure, and their use is discouraged. For differentially private synthetic data, a privacy budget other than close to zero was not considered interpretable. There was consensus on the importance of membership and attribute disclosure, both of which involve inferring personal information about an individual without necessarily revealing their identity. The resultant framework provides precise recommendations for metrics that address these types of disclosures effectively. Our findings further present specific opportunities for future research that can help with widespread adoption of synthetic data. © 2025, CC BY.

It is shown that by an appropriate canonical transformation Kepler dynamics can be put in the form which allows to exhibit the structure of the symmetry transformations related to the superintegrability. They appear to fit nicely into general scheme of nonlinear realizations. In new coordinates the Kepler dynamics results from dimensional reduction of that describing low energy mesons with spontaneously broken chiral symmetry. Copyright © 2022, The Authors.
