Towards practical and massively parallel quantum computing emulation for quantum chemistry

Quantum computing is moving beyond its early stage and seeking for commercial applications in chemical and biomedical sciences. In the current noisy intermediate-scale quantum computing era, quantum resource is too scarce to support these explorations. Therefore, it is valuable to emulate quantum computing on classical computers for developing quantum algorithms and validating quantum hardware. However, existing simulators mostly suffer from the memory bottleneck so developing the approaches for large-scale quantum chemistry calculations remains challenging. Here we demonstrate a high-performance and massively parallel variational quantum eigensolver (VQE) simulator based on matrix product states, combined with embedding theory for solving large-scale quantum computing emulation for quantum chemistry on HPC platforms. We apply this method to study the torsional barrier of ethane and the quantification of the protein-ligand interactions. Our largest simulation reaches 1000 qubits, and a performance of 216.9 PFLOPS is achieved on a new Sunway supercomputer, which sets the state-of-the-art for quantum computing emulation for quantum chemistry. © 2023, CC BY.

Along with the development of modern computing technology and social sciences, both theoretical research and practical applications of social computing have been continuously extended. In particular with the boom of artificial intelligence (AI), social computing is significantly influenced by AI. However, the conventional technologies of AI have drawbacks in dealing with more complicated and dynamic problems. Such deficiency can be rectified by hybrid human-artificial intelligence (H-AI) which integrates both human intelligence and AI into one unity, forming a new enhanced intelligence. H-AI in dealing with social problems shows the advantages that AI can’t surpass. This paper firstly introduces the concepts of H-AI. AI is the intelligence in the transition stage of H-AI, so the latest research progresses of AI in social computing are reviewed. Secondly, it summarizes typical challenges faced by AI in social computing, and makes it possible to introduce H-AI to solve these challenges. Finally, the paper proposes a holistic framework of social computing combining with H-AI, which consists of four layers: object layer, base layer, analysis layer, and application layer. The dynamic contexts of heterogeneous Internet of Things (HetIoT) adversely affect the performance of learning-based network intrusion detection systems (NIDS) resulting in increased misclassification rates—necessitating an expert knowledge correlated evaluation framework. The proposed generalizable framework includes intrusion root cause analysis, correlation model, and correlated classification metrics that can be generalized over any NID dataset, corresponding expert knowledge, detection technique, and learning-based algorithm to facilitate context-awareness in reducing false alerts. To achieve this, we perform experimentations on the Bot-IoT dataset—with generalized traffic behaviors from multiple existing NID datasets—employing the Support Vector Machine (SVM) machine learning and Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) shallow neural network classifiers, demonstrating the generalizability, robustness, and improved performance of the propounded framework compared to the existing literature. XAI refers to the techniques and methods for building AI applications which assist end users to interpret output and predictions of AI models. Black box AI applications in high-stakes decision-making situations, such as medical domain have increased the demand for transparency and explainability since wrong predictions may have severe consequences. Model explainability and interpretability are vital successful deployment of AI models in healthcare practices. AI applications' underlying reasoning needs to be transparent to clinicians in order to gain their trust. This paper presents a systematic review of XAI aspects and challenges in the healthcare domain. The primary goals of this study are to review various XAI methods, their challenges, and related machine learning models in healthcare. The methods are discussed under six categories: Features-oriented methods, global methods, concept models, surrogate models, local pixel-based methods, and human-centric methods. Most importantly, the paper explores XAI role in healthcare problems to clarify its necessity in safety-critical applications. The paper intends to establish a comprehensive understanding of XAI-related applications in the healthcare field by reviewing the related experimental results. To facilitate future research for filling research gaps, the importance of XAI models from different viewpoints and their limitations are investigated. © 2023, CC BY-NC-ND.

Background: In many modern applications, information filtering is now used that exposes users to a collection of data. In such systems, the users are provided with recommended items’ list they might prefer or predict the rate that they might prefer for the items. So that, the users might be select the items that are preferred in that list. Objective: In web service recommendation based on Quality of Service (QoS), predicting QoS value will greatly help people to select the appropriate web service and discover new services. Methods: The effective method or technique for this would be Collaborative Filtering (CF). CF will greatly help in service selection and web service recommendation. It is the more general way of information filtering among the large data sets. In the narrower sense, it is the method of making predictions about a user’s interest by collecting taste information from many users. Results: It is easy to build and also much more effective for recommendations by predicting missing QoS values for the users. It also addresses the scalability problem since the recommendations are based on like-minded users using PCC or in clusters using KNN rather than in large data sources. Conclusion: In this paper, location-aware collaborative filtering is used to recommend the services. The proposed system compares the prediction outcomes and execution time with existing algorithms. © 2019 Bentham Science Publishers.

Respiratory symptoms can be a caused by different underlying conditions, and are often caused by viral infections, such as Influenza-like illnesses or other emerging viruses like the Coronavirus. These respiratory viruses, often, have common symptoms, including coughing, high temperature, congested nose, and difficulty breathing. However, early diagnosis of the type of the virus, can be crucial, especially in cases such as the recent COVID-19 pandemic. One of the factors that contributed to the spread of the pandemic, was the late diagnosis or confusing it with regular flu-like symptoms. Science has proved that one of the possible differentiators of the underlying causes of these different respiratory diseases is coughing, which comes in different types and forms. Therefore, a reliable lab-free tool for early and more accurate diagnosis that can differentiate between different respiratory diseases is very much needed. This paper proposes an end-to-end portable system that can record data from patients with symptom, including coughs (voluntary or involuntary) and translate them into health data for diagnosis, and with the aid of machine learning, classify them into different respiratory illnesses, including COVID-19. With the ongoing efforts to stop the spread of the COVID-19 disease everywhere today, and against similar diseases in the future, our proposed low cost and user-friendly solution can play an important part in the early diagnosis. A full-featured efficient clustering mechanism for improving QoS in MANETs

Due to the dynamicity of MANET’s topology and its infrastructureless nature, various problems arise from those inherent properties which degrade the QoS. Those negative issues are the energy constraints, problems related to broadcasting, high node mobility, unpartitioned network, and various challenges faced during the path discovery, route selection, packet scheduling and packet transmission processes, and security issues. To find an efficient solution to all those problems, in this paper, we propose a robust algorithm;Full-featured secure routing clustering algorithm with energy-aware and scheduling capabilities for highly increasing QoS in MANET (FSR-CAES), an efficient clustering technique which is a combination of numerous algorithms, each one containing one of the previously mentioned problems. The simulation results are provided with the NS-2 simulator varying the number of nodes and the evaluating parameters namely the routing overhead, packet delivery ratio, Normalised routing load, and the average end-to-end delay while comparing the performance of our proposed scheme with neighbour coverage-based probabilistic rebroadcast (NCPR), a routing protocol specialised in providing high QoS in MANETs as it is efficient in reducing the routing overhead in the network. The outcomes prove that our proposed scheme outperforms NCPR for all the studied scenarios for small, medium, and large MANETs. Copyright © 2018 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.

The Electronic Health Record (EHR) has been widely used in cloud-based medical data platforms. Since the owner of the EHR is a patient and the manager is a doctor (or hospital), this separation of ownership of privacy data leads to privacy leakages of the EHR stored in the cloud environment. The tamper-proof and traceable features of the blockchain make it a promising way to solve EHR privacy protection issues. Nevertheless, the latest research findings on blockchain-based schemes for EHR privacy preservation are focused on single blockchain that corresponds to a designated medical institution, which are not compatible with the privacy anti-leakage demands since private data is transferred through multiple blockchains. In this regard, we put forward relay-chain as a service (RaaS), and propose a cross-blockchain based EHR Privacy-preserving scheme (CEPS), which uses relay-chain to achieve secure access to EHR data when patients visit different hospitals. Furthermore, our scheme ensures that patients can delete the link of EHR freely and effectively. Security analysis and performance evaluations are performed, which prove that CEPS is highly secure and efficient impressively.
