We predict the impact ionization in a 13 nm gate length double-gate MOSFET structures using full-band self- consistent ensemble Monte Carlo method with quantum correction. The effects of various design parameters such as gate oxide thickness, body thickness and channel length on the impact ionization onset voltages are investigated. The studies show that the reduction of channel length reduction remains as the major contributor to the impact ionization phenomena. On analyzing the distribution of impact ionization events in the structure, impact ionization induced hot carrier activity is shown to be largely confined to the channel-drain interface region. This allows for possible gate oxide hot carriers reliability issues to be greatly reduced through an optimal design.

IEEE 802.11e standard is developed for QoS provisioning in WLANs. Admission Control is a mechanism that controls stations to be served in WLANs. In practice, evaluation of admission control plays an important role for QoS support. The goal of this paper is to calculate the WLAN delays with ACs. The delay calculation can be used to guarantee the QoS of the VoIP and video streams, which is divided into three parts. One is the propagation delay. Another is that packets queue up in stations or APs. Lastly, the delay is taken due to collisions. For VoIP and video streams, the second delay is more important than other two delays. Consequently, we will focus on the calculation of the second delay. Some simulations and numerical results are provided and discussed in detail. Experimental results show that the proposed method is more accurate in calculating the delay of packets in WLANs.

Autonomic Computing (AC), self-management based on high level guidance from humans, is increasingly gaining momentum as the way forward in designing reliable systems to hide complexity and conquer IT management costs. Effectively, AC may be viewed as Policy-Based Self-Management. In this paper we look at the motivation for utilizing NASA requirements-based programming technologies for mechanically transforming policies (expressed in restricted natural language, or appropriate graphical notations) into a provably equivalent formal model that can be used as the basis for code generation and other transformations, with the goal of self-generation of provable autonomic policies. © IFIP International Federation for Information Processing 2005.

An automated seamless mosaicing system of multi-charge coupled devices of panchromatic data

Panchromatic data of pixel resolution 5.8 m obtained from IRS-IC and IRS-ID satellites proved to be very useful for mapping purposes. One of the popular data product is the 70 km swath mosaic which is covered by a combination of 3 CCD line sensors, each with 4096 pixels. Each CCD-line sensor with different imaging times causes geometric problems of mosaicing three strips data together. In this paper, we propose the details of the design elements of system that caters to the need for accurate and automatic multi strip image registration without any second resampling of the data. The systematic geometric correction grid mapping is improved to facilitate accurate mosaicing by automatic image registration task that makes use of the overlap data within image strips and image registration is achieved up to sub-pixel level.

In ad hoc networks, each node utilizes its limited resources to carry out the collective operation of the network. It is not always in the best interests of the network's nodes to demand the continuous participation of all nodes in the network operations. We propose an energy dependent participation (EDP) scheme, where a node periodically re-evaluates its participation in the network based on the residual energy in its battery. More importantly, a node gives special consideration to supporting the communication needs of its active network applications and preventing further network partitioning. EDP's localized partition checking algorithm is particularly well suited for the zone routing protocol, where the link-state information is proactively maintained within each node's local zone and routes to faraway nodes are reactively obtained via global queries. Through simulations, we evaluate the impact of our proposed scheme on battery life and network connectivity. Our results suggest that the EDP scheme can increase the usable lifetime of a battery-constraint ad hoc network by over 50%.

Coupling Trends in Industrial Prototyping Roles: An Empirical Investigation

Prototyping in the development cycle claims to improve analyst understanding of system requirements leading to systems which match those requirements more closely. The quality of the end systems, from a user perspective, is thus improved. In this paper, the results of an empirical investigation into the use of prototyping in the development of various systems is described. Nine processes across eight different sites were analysed and data relating to each process was collected. The notation of Role Activity Diagrams (RADs) was used to capture each of the nine processes. Five hypotheses were then investigated: these related the prototyping role to features of other roles such as extent of interaction during the prototyping process, the effect site size had on the prototyping role and the dependence of the prototyping role on other roles in the prototyping process. Two coupling metrics were introduced to quantitatively analyse these RAD features. Results indicated a strong similarity between large and medium-sized sites in terms of interactions and behaviour. The prototyping process in small sites, however, was found to be different to large and medium-sized sites in both respects. The study demonstrates how measures of business models can aid analysis of the process as well as the products of systems development and highlights the need for more empirical investigation into this and other facets of the software development process.

Opus is a new programming language designed to assist in coordinating the execution of multiple, independent program modules. With the help of Opus, coarse grained task parallelism between data parallel modules can be expressed in a clean and structured way. In this paper we address the problems of how to build a compilation and runtime support system that can efficiently implement the Opus constructs. Our design considers the often-conflicting goals of efficiency and modular construction through software re-use. In particular, we present the system requirements for an efficient Opus implementation, the Opus runtime system, and describe how they work together to provide the underlying services that the Opus compiler needs for a broad class of machines. A basic study on power storage capacitor systems

He is engaged in R&D of radiation measurements electronic circuits computer applications and software. Member of the Japan Nuclear Society and the Electrical Society.

Storage batteries or pumped hydraulic power stations have been used to store electric energy. However, there are problems with storage batteries, e.g., long charging time, limited cycle life, low Coulomb efficiency, and inaccurate residual power meters. Because of these problems, practical power applications have not been achieved. To solve these problems, a complex system of capacitors and electronic circuits called the ECS (Energy Capacitor System) is proposed. The capacitor part of the ECS is a group of electric double-layer capacitors of increased energy density. The circuits part is built around switching regulators. Although the capacitors alone are not capable of delivering stable output, the accompanying circuits compensate for various characteristics throughout the charge and discharge cycle. This combination of capacitors and electronic circuits increases the energy density by about 16 times that of the conventional electric double-layer capacitors, close to the level of lead-acid batteries but with lower output resistance and better voltage stability. The ECS inherently features short charging time, very long cycle life, and good Coulomb efficiency. The cells are completely sealed and made from materials which are not harmful to the environment.
