Early Time Series Anomaly Prediction with Multi-Objective Optimization

Anomaly prediction, aiming to predict abnormal events before occurrence, plays a key role in significantly reducing costs and minimizing potential threats to mechanical devices. Monitoring machines using fixed-length time windows faces challenges in accommodating the varying characteristics of anomaly events. The lengthy and imbalanced sequence data associated with anomaly events further complicates the resolution of these challenges. Additionally, the inherent trade-off between accurate prediction and timely alarm is a crucial concern, posing difficulties in decision-making. This study puts forward a novel framework for early anomaly prediction, named early time series Anomaly Prediction with Neighbor Over-sampling and Multi-objective Optimization (APNOMO), pronounced as 'abnormal'. The framework employs three key techniques: 1) sliding windows that divide long input sequences into segments for prediction at proper intervals, 2) over-sampling and proposed neighbor over-sampling that handle imbalanced data in a novel way, and 3) multi-objective optimization that searches optimal thresholds to balance accurately prediction and timely alarm the abnormal. Experiments on a real-world dataset demonstrate APNOMO's superior performance over some state-of-the-art designs, with higher recall, F1 score, and more suitable earliness. It can predict anomalies 0.78-3.56 hours in advance, showcasing excellent early anomaly prediction capabilities for enabling predictive maintenance. © 2017 IEEE.

At present, there exist some problems in granular clustering methods, such as lack of nonlinear membership description and global optimization of granular data boundaries. To address these issues, in this study, revolving around the parabolic granular data, we propose an overall architecture for parabolic granular modeling and clustering. To begin with, novel coverage and specificity functions are established, and then a parabolic granular data structure is proposed. The fuzzy c-means (FCM) algorithm is used to obtain the numeric prototypes, and then particle swarm optimization (PSO) is introduced to construct the parabolic granular data from the global perspective under the guidance of principle of justifiable granularity (PJG). Combining the advantages of FCM and PSO, we propose the parabolic granular modeling and optimization (PGMO) method. Moreover, we put forward attribute weights and sample weights as well as a distance measure induced by the Gaussian kernel similarity, and then come up with the algorithm of weighted kernel fuzzy clustering for parabolic granularity (WKFC-PG). In addition, the assessment mechanism of parabolic granular clustering is discussed. In summary, we set up an overall architecture including parabolic granular modeling, clustering, and assessment. Finally, comparative experiments on artificial, UCI, and high-dimensional datasets validate that our overall architecture delivers a good improvement over previous strategies. The parameter analysis and time complexity are also given for WKFC-PG. In contrast with related granular clustering algorithms, it is observed that WKFC-PG performs better than other granular clustering algorithms and has superior stability in handling outliers, especially on high-dimensional datasets. © 2020 IEEE.

Myelin damage and a wide range of symptoms are caused by the immune system targeting the central nervous system in Multiple Sclerosis(MS),a chronic autoimmune neurological *** disrupts signals between the brain and body,causing symptoms including tiredness,muscle weakness,and difficulty with memory and *** methods for detecting MS are less precise and time-consuming,which is a major gap in addressing this *** gap has motivated the investigation of new methods to improve MS detection consistency and *** paper proposed a novel approach named FAD consisting of Deep Neural Network(DNN)fused with an Artificial Neural Network(ANN)to detect MS with more efficiency and accuracy,utilizing regularization and combat *** use gene expression data for MS research in the GEO GSE17048 *** dataset is preprocessed by performing encoding,standardization using min-max-scaler,and feature selection using Recursive Feature Elimination with Cross-Validation(RFECV)to optimize and refine the ***,for experimenting with the dataset,another deep-learning hybrid model is integrated with different ML models,including Random Forest(RF),Gradient Boosting(GB),XGBoost(XGB),K-Nearest Neighbors(KNN)and Decision Tree(DT).Results reveal that FAD performed exceptionally well on the dataset,which was evident with an accuracy of 96.55%and an F1-score of 96.71%.The use of the proposed FAD approach helps in achieving remarkable results with better accuracy than previous studies.

The advancement of digitalization in the manufacturing industry has visualization that enables managers to comprehend the status and operation time of machines, thereby allowing them to identify and address bottlenecks in production lines. Although Gantt charts are commonly used for visualization in the manufacturing industry, there is an increasing need to adopt methods that more effectively visualize past events to facilitate understanding. Consequently, we have developed a Virtual Reality (VR) system aimed at improving the operations of small and medium-sized manufacturing enterprises through visualization. By utilizing sensors installed within the factory, we demonstrated that the VR space facilitates comprehensible work analysis instruction and simulation of optimal work processes. © 2023 IEEE.

Smart cities, industrial automation, healthcare, and environmental monitoring are just a few of the industries that have seen revolutionary changes as a result of Wireless Sensor Networks’ (WSNs) explosive growth. WSNs are significantly hampered by the limited energy resources of their sensor nodes, which are usually battery-powered and placed in inaccessible locations, despite their wide-ranging applications. As a result, energy efficiency is now a crucial component of these networks’ operation and design. Though these protocols frequently fail to adjust to the dynamic and unpredictable nature of WSNs, traditional energy-aware routing methods have been created to decrease energy consumption by choosing the best paths for data transfer. By allowing sensor nodes to learn from their surroundings and make wise routing decisions, the machine learning field of reinforcement learning (RL) provides a viable answer to these problems. In contrast to conventional techniques, RL-based protocols provide continuous energy optimization by dynamically modifying their routing strategies in response to real-time feedback. This paper investigates how to include RL methods—specifically, Q-learning and SARSA—into WSN energy-aware routing protocols. The suggested method creates a more distributed and scalable solution by enabling each node to independently learn and modify its routing choices. The effectiveness of RL-based routing protocols is compared to traditional methods through comprehensive simulations. The findings show that by slowing down the rate at which energy is being used up by each node, RL not only increases energy efficiency but also lengthens the network's operational life. In particular, Q-learning demonstrates a notable improvement in sustaining data delivery rates and network connectivity under various circumstances. Purpose: Colour fundus images are widely used in diagnosis treatment decision of several retinal diseases such as diabetic retinopathy (DR), glaucoma and age-related macular degeneration (AMD). These very common conditions must be detected early and monitored to prevent progression and avoid permanent damage. Fundus images revealed to be useful also for the diagnosis of cataracts. In recent years, various automatic diagnostic support methods have been proposed in the literature, with the aim of facilitating widespread screening and obtaining quantitative, objective, and reproducible information. Methods: In this review paper, an overview of traditional, machine learning and modern deep learning techniques for ophthalmic disease diagnosis (i.e. glaucoma, DR, AMD, and cataract) using retinal fundus images is presented. In addition, various publicly available image datasets used for such purposes are described. Results: The current main challenges and findings are identified, as well as common aspects and discrepancies between the various methods developed for the various diseases. Conclusion: The overview of what has been done about all pathologies, rather than only on a specific one, could favour a migration of the best solutions and, hopefully, the development of a more precise and clinically useful automatic analysis of all pathologies. An Evolutionary algorithm is a subset of evolutionary computations. Cloning, mutation, recombination, and selection are some of the methods used by the evolutionary algorithm that were inspired by biological evolution. The problem that was addressed in this study is how to find the coefficient values of the variables in linear equations that contain a set of variables, it must equal the right side. After reviewing previous research looking for optimization, genetic algorithm, which will use in this paper, so how are going to use this strategy to solve our problems? Select the best chromosomes from this population. Perform random chromosomal hybridization. Then, within the genes of our chromosomes, produce random mutations. Will send these chromosomes for selection again. The best chromosomes among them are selected again. It crosses and turns again, and the process is repeated until a certain number of generations have passed or find the best option. After applying the genetic algorithm through the Matlab program to the linear equation, which contains six variables, for example, the results were very excellent, as the parameter values were found in a very short time and with high accuracy, completely matching the right side of the equation. © 2024 IEEE.

Various machine learning techniques have been proposed to improve the effectiveness of Intrusion Detection systems (IDS), where IDS is one of the important parts of the network that functions to maintain network security. With its various capabilities and reputation, Support Vector Machine (SVM) is often applied in various classification cases. However, it has constraints with accuracy and computing time when it comes to data that has large dimensions. Utilizing metaheuristic techniques is one possibility that researchers can use to solve this problem. To overcome this, in this study, we will evaluate the performance of SVM for the IDS case by utilizing the metaheuristic Grey Wolf Optimization (GWO) algorithm. From the experiments with three different iteration models, the best results of the combination of SVM and GWO were found in a model with 10 GWO iterations and 10 populations with an accuracy of 97.47% using 15 features out of 48 original features of the UKM-IDS20 dataset. © 2024 IEEE.

Cybersecurity knowledge is essential in today’s increasingly digital healthcare environment to protect sensitive patient data and guarantee the integrity of healthcare systems. But conventional cybersecurity training approaches frequently fail to hold healthcare professionals’ attention, which results in inadequate application and retention of the material. In order to increase cybersecurity awareness among healthcare professionals, this study investigates the use of gamification—a technological technique that incorporates game design aspects into non-gaming contexts—as an innovative method. A mixed-methods research methodology is used in the study to assess the effectiveness of a cybersecurity training program that is gamified. To encourage user involvement and motivation, the program incorporates aspects like leaderboards, interactive scenarios, badges, and points. The study included a total of 100 healthcare professionals from various departments, offering a thorough understanding of the program’s effects across a range of positions and experience levels. Pre- and post-training surveys were used to gather quantitative data on participant changes in knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors pertaining to cybersecurity procedures. Furthermore, semi-structured interviews yielded qualitative insights that further elucidated the participants’ perspectives and experiences with the gamified training method. Comparing gamification to conventional training approaches, the results show that gamification dramatically improves engagement and knowledge retention. The willingness of the participants to acquire and use cybersecurity techniques in their daily lives has reportedly increased. Additionally, the gamified components strengthened the training objectives by fostering a competitive yet cooperative learning environment.
