Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a neurological illness that worsens with time. The aged population has expanded in recent years, as has the prevalence of geriatric illnesses. There is no cure, but early detection and proper treatment allow sufferers to live normal lives. Furthermore, people with this disease’s immune systems steadily degenerate, resulting in a wide range of severe disorders. Neuroimaging Data from magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is utilized to identify and detect the disease as early as possible. The data is derived from the Alzheimer’s Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI) collection of 266 people with 177 structural brain MRI imaging, DTI, and PET data for intermediate disease diagnosis. When neuropsychological and cognitive data are integrated, the study found that ML can aid in the identification of preclinical Alzheimer’s disease. Our primary objective is to develop a model that is reliable, simple, and rapid for diagnosing preclinical Alzheimer’s disease. According to our findings (MRIAD), the Logistic Regression (LR) model has the best accuracy and classification prediction of about 98%. The ML model is also developed in the paper. This article profoundly, describes the possibility to getting into Alzheimer’s disease (AD) information from the pre-clinical or non-preclinical trial datasets using Machine Learning Classifier (ML) approaches. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

As part of George B. Moody Physionet Challenge 2022, our team Melbourne Kangas, proposed an algorithm for identifying abnormal heart sounds from paediatric phono-cardiograms (PCGs). We developed a Deep Learning (DL) approach and a handcrafted feature-based approach. The DL classifier was based on bidirectional long-short-term-memory and Mel-frequency cepstrum coefficients from raw PCG signals. The feature-based approach used non-negative matrix factorisation to denoise PCG signals and then extracted the features based on the whole and segmented recordings, followed by feature selection. A random under-sampling boosting classifier for murmur classification and robust boosting classifier for outcome classification were given the subset of features. The feature-based performed better than the DL classifiers on the validation set. The feature-based classifier received a weighted accuracy of 0.632 (29th out of 41 teams) and a challenge cost of 11,735 (3rd out of 39 teams) on the test set. Decision fusion of the two approaches decreased 10-fold cross-validation results. © 2022 Creative Commons.

Next-Generation Crowdsensing Networks (NGCNs) have become increasingly critical for smart cities, where data privacy and quality are pivotal concerns. Traditional trust mechanisms in crowdsensing mainly rely on static trust models, which are insufficient for dynamic security requirements. Zero-Trust security represents a promising opportunity, yet coming with notable challenges in NGCNs, including Unknown Workers Online Recruitment (UWOR), information Elicitation Without Verification (IEWV), Privacy Preserving Data Evaluation (PPDE), and Dynamic Trust Abrupt Shift (DTAS). To address these challenges, we propose a Credibility-aware and Privacy-preserving Data collection scheme with Zero-trust (CPDZ) for secure and quality data collection in NGCNs. First, our CPDZ scheme encompasses a quality worker recruitment strategy with combinatorial multi-armed bandit models, utilizing Thompson Sampling for the secure and efficient resolution of the UWOR. Second, an active dispatching scheme for unmanned aerial vehicles is crafted to collect data as a gold standard to assist in overcoming the IEWV challenge. Third, as for the PPDE challenge, we propose a lightweight privacy-preserving scheme for dependable truth discovery and secure trust verification. Fourth, the DTAS challenge is managed by a dual verification scheme that integrates short-term and long-term trust assessments, ensuring stability and adaptability of the zero-trust security in our CPDZ scheme. Experiments confirm the superiority of our CPDZ scheme, showing a 12.5% increase in recruitment revenue and a 57.8% reduction in relative error compared to existing approaches. © 1983-2012 IEEE.

Wearable smart devices are capable of capturing a variety of information from their users using a multitude of noninvasive sensing modalities. Using features from the raw measurements of wearable devices, sensor fusion enables us to obtain a holistic picture of the users' context and monitor their activity state with increased accuracy. Human activity recognition using noninvasive sensors allows us to capture the natural behavior of users in their day-to-day lives. This in-the-wild activity recognition, however, poses several key challenges that must be addressed to create effective classification models. The main challenges are class imbalance, uncertainty in classifier decisions, and large feature spaces. To address them, this study further explores a probabilistic sensor fusion method called Naive Adaptive Probabilistic Sensor (NAPS) Fusion. In doing so, we establish the viability of NAPS Fusion for natural human activity recognition using noninvasive sensing modalities. NAPS Fusion handles dimensionality reduction by creating reduced feature sets and mitigates the class imbalance issue through the use of Synthetic Minority Oversampling Technique (SMOTE). Moreover, NAPS Fusion addresses uncertainty in the decisions of classifiers using a Dempster-Shafer theoretic late fusion framework. Our empirical evaluation demonstrates that NAPS Fusion has broad applications beyond its original design for cognitive state detection. It outperforms similar decision level sensor fusion methods (late fusion using averaging, LFA, and late fusion using learned weights, LFL) in the detection of exercise and sedentary activities such as walking, running, lying down, and sitting. We observe improvements of up to 56% in F1 score and up to 59% in precision with NAPS Fusion over the compared methods. © 2023 International Society of information Fusion.

As Multi-Robot systems (MRS) become more affordable and computing capabilities grow, they provide significant advantages for complex applications such as environmental monitoring, underwater inspections, or space exploration. However, accounting for potential communication loss or the unavailability of communication infrastructures in these application domains remains an open problem. Much of the applicable MRS research assumes that the system can sustain communication through proximity regulations and formation control or by devising a framework for separating and adhering to a predetermined plan for extended periods of disconnection. The latter technique enables an MRS to be more efficient, but breakdowns and environmental uncertainties can have a domino effect throughout the system, particularly when the mission goal is intricate or time-sensitive. To deal with this problem, our proposed framework has two main phases: i) a centralized planner to allocate mission tasks by rewarding intermittent rendezvous between robots to mitigate the effects of the unforeseen events during mission execution, and ii) a decentralized replanning scheme leveraging epistemic planning to formalize belief propagation and a Monte Carlo tree search for policy optimization given distributed rational belief updates. The proposed framework outperforms a baseline heuristic and is validated using simulations and experiments with aerial vehicles.

Morse code is one of the oldest communication techniques and used in telecommunication systems. Morse code can be transmitted as a visual signal by using reflections or with the help of flashlights, but it can also be used as a non-detectable form of communication by using the tapping of fingers or even blinking of eyes. In this paper, we develop a computer vision based approach that automatically characterizes the characters conveyed wherein a person can communicate to system or another person through Morse code with eye gestures. We can decode this visual eye tracking based language with the help of our automatic computer vision driven method. Our approach uses a normal webcam to detect the gestures made by the eyes and are interpreted as dots and dashes. These dots and dashes are used to represent the Morse code-based words. Image processing techniques-based blink and pupil detectors are employed. Blink detector helps us to detect a blink and the time that took for each blink. A blink that takes 2 to 4 seconds is acknowledged as a dot whereas a blink that takes more than 4 seconds is represented as a dash. The pupil detector helps us to detect the movement of the pupils, and if pupils move towards right with respect to a person then it is acknowledged as next letter and if the pupils are moved towards left with respect to a person then it is acknowledged as next word. In this way, we decode the Morse code which will be communicated using eyes and establish a non-detectable communication between a person and an automatic system. Our experimental results on an unconstrained visual scene with preliminary greeting words indicate the promise of an automatic eye tracking based system with success rate of 98.25% that can be of use in non-verbal communications. © 2023 River Publishers.
