Underwater acoustic wave propagation time delay and fluctuations are much greater than radio waves. However, many of the protocols used for underwater acoustic networking and communication are designed according to the principles of terrestrial wireless communication networks, failing to give full consideration to utilizing the underwater acoustic propagation and its time delay variation. For this reason, this article proposes an adaptive varying contention window media access control (AVCW-MAC) protocol based on propagation delay. The protocol uses AVCW random backoff mechanism to differently set up the CW of each node based on the different propagation delays from each underwater sensor node to the cluster head node to improve the channel utilization. In addition, to avoid excessive difference in the CW of each node, the backoff factors K1 and K2 are introduced in the AVCW random backoff mechanism to improve the fairness of nodes' accessing the channel. Simulation results show that for the same amount of sensor nodes, the AVCW-MAC protocol has significantly improved network throughput and decreased average end-to-end latency when compared to legacy CW-MAC protocols. © 2001-2012 IEEE.

Accurate segmentation of the prostate and its substructures consist the most important component for reliable localization and characterization of prostate cancer. In this study a Spatial Attention Residual U-Net (Spatial ResU-Net) deep learning (DL) network is proposed for segmenting the transitional zone of the prostate, by leveraging the learning capacity of spatial attention modules and residual connections. Spatial attention modules efficiently extract features in intra-channel manner and boost the performance of encoder and decoder while residual connections facilitate the information flow within the different network's levels. The proposed model was compared against 8 state-of-the-art DL segmentation models demonstrating a superior performance. The improvement in terms of Sensitivity, Dice Score, Hausdorff distance and Average surface distance was at least 1%, 1%, 0.05 mm and 0.09 mm, respectively. © 2024 IEEE.

UAV Swarms for Joint Data Ferrying and Dynamic Cell Coverage via Optimal Transport Descent and Quadratic Assignment

Both data ferrying with disruption-tolerant networking (DTN) and mobile cellular base stations constitute important techniques for UAV-aided communication in situations of crises where standard communication infrastructure is unavailable. For optimal use of a limited number of UAVs, we propose providing both DTN and a cellular base station on each UAV. Here, DTN is used for large amounts of low-priority data, while capacity-constrained cell coverage remains reserved for emergency calls or command and control. We optimize cell coverage via a novel optimal transport-based formulation using alternating minimization, while for data ferrying we periodically deliver data between dynamic clusters by solving quadratic assignment problems. In our evaluation, we consider different scenarios with varying mobility models and a wide range of flight patterns. Overall, we tractably achieve optimal cell coverage under quality-of-service costs with DTN-based data ferrying, enabling large-scale deployment of UAV swarms for crisis communication. Anomaly detection in an unsupervised manner has become the go-To approach in applications where data labeling proves problematic. However, these approaches aren t completely unsupervised, since they rely on the weak knowledge of the dataset distribution into anomalous and anomaly-free subsets and typically require post-Training threshold calibration in order to perform anomaly detection. Yet, they do not take advantage of available positive samples during training. In contrast, fully supervised approaches have proven to be more accurate and more efficient, however, they require a sufficient number of anomalous images to be labeled on a per-pixel level, which represents a labour-intensive task. In this paper, we propose a new hybrid approach that utilizes the best of both worlds. We use an unsupervised approach to build a model for generating pseudo labels, followed by a supervised approach in order to robustify anomaly detection. Moreover, we extend this approach with an active learning schema, that results in learning with mixed supervision. We achieve several improvements, i.e., the utilization of available positive image samples, improved anomaly detection performance, and the retention of real-Time performance. The proposed approach yields results that are comparable to the fully supervised approach, and at the very least, reduces the number of required labeled anomalous samples. © 2023 SPIE. This article supplies a proposed approach Neuro Fuzzy Controller (NFC)-Adaptive Backstepping Controller (ABC)-Space Vector Modulation (SVM) for a five-level NPC inverter-Double Stator Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (DSIPMSM). This paper's primary objective is to enhance DSIPMSM's performance by the use of strong control using the proposed approach. Given its benefits - including high torque density, high efficiency, high power density, and minimal maintenance - DSIPMSM, have recently been the focus of much research. Using the input-output linearization approach and Lyapunov stability theory, asymptotically stable trajectory-following dynamics are demonstrated using nonlinear adaptive backstepping control. The use of fuzzy logic and intelligence-based controllers are increasingly being used to enhance traditional control's performance and output. In addition, the fuzzy logic controller has a lot of flaws that are presently being fixed by the extremely effective NFC tool. The proposed method's worth was demonstrated by the simulation results in terms of durability, effective tracking dynamics, precision, and good disturbance rejection with little ripple. © 2024 IEEE.

Emulation Learning for Neuromimetic systems

Building on our recent research on neural heuristic quantization systems, results on learning quantized motions and resilience to channel dropouts are reported. We propose a general emulation problem consistent with the neuromimetic paradigm. This optimal quantization problem can be solved by model predictive control (MPC), but because the optimization step involves integer programming, the approach suffers from combinatorial complexity when the number of input channels becomes large. Even if we collect data points to train a neural network simultaneously, collection of training data and the training itself are still time-consuming. Therefore, we propose a general Deep Q Network (DQN) algorithm that can not only learn the trajectory but also exhibit the advantages of resilience to channel dropout. Furthermore, to transfer the model to other emulation problems, a mapping-based transfer learning approach can be used directly on the current model to obtain the optimal direction for the new emulation problems. © 2023, CC BY-NC-SA.

The administration of medications at many hospitals is not governed by an inventory forecasting system, which is common in the management of many hospitals. This might either result in an excessive amount of pharmaceuticals being available in the hospital or a serious shortage of them. Because of this, it is essential for the hospital to have inventory forecasting for the management of drugs;this will assist the hospital in determining when the medicine will run out of supply. As a result of this, it is essential for the hospital to have inventory forecasting for the management of drugs. The author of this study builds an augmented intelligence with the help of a stacked LSTM model. Augmented intelligence is a kind of intelligence that supports stakeholders in getting a broad grasp of inventory projections for the foreseeable future. Using event-driven architecture, the systems are developed independently so that they will not interfere with the workings of the current hospital administration system. We test the model on 19 different drug stocks using a total of 1000 days of data for each medication, and the results reveal that stacked LSTM is able to correctly predict with average values for the R2 coefficient, RMSE, MSE, and MAE being 0.9972, 1.95, 3.81, and 1.26 respectively. The results also show that the proposed system can work. © 2022 IEEE.

A Decision Tree-based Monitoring and Recovery Framework for Autonomous Robots with Decision Uncertainties

Autonomous mobile robots (AMR) operating in the real world often need to make critical decisions that directly impact their own safety and the safety of their surroundings. Learning-based approaches for decision making have gained popularity in recent years, since decisions can be made very quickly and with reasonable levels of accuracy for many applications. These approaches, however, typically return only one decision, and if the learner is poorly trained or observations are noisy, the decision may be incorrect. This problem is further exacerbated when the robot is making decisions about its own failures, such as faulty actuators or sensors and external disturbances, when a wrong decision can immediately cause damage to the robot. In this paper, we consider this very case study: a robot dealing with such failures must quickly assess uncertainties and make safe decisions. We propose an uncertainty aware learning-based failure detection and recovery approach, in which we leverage Decision Tree theory along with Model Predictive Control to detect and explain which failure is compromising the system, assess uncertainties associated with the failure, and lastly, find and validate corrective controls to recover the system. Our approach is validated with simulations and real experiments on a faulty unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) navigation case study, demonstrating recovery to safety under uncertainties.
