The massive ultra-reliable and low-latency communications (mURLLC) services are emerging as a new traffic type to support communications among massive numbers of mobile users (MUs) demanding the stringent delay and error-rate bounded quality-of-services (QoS) requirements in 6G. Correspondingly, the integrated sensing and communications (ISAC) technique can improve various QoS performances through spectrum/hardware sharing between target-sensing and data-communications. In addition, the massive multiple-input multiple-output (massive MIMO) and finite blocklength coding (FBC) have been also widely recognized as the powerful 6G techniques to efficiently support mURLLC. However, how to apply the ISAC technique to accurately sense and estimate the wireless channel state while transmitting the information from the base station to MUs to support mURLLC using massive MIMO and FBC has imposed many new difficulties not encountered before. To conquer these challenges, in this paper we propose the new ISAC performance metrics for statistical-QoS guaranteed mURLLC over 6G massive MIMO mobile networks using FBC. First, we establish system models for ISAC-based architectures. Second, we detect targeted MUs and estimate the channel state using the radar sensing echo. Third, we develop a new ISAC performance metric as a function of the data-communication rate and channel state estimation distortion. Finally, we use the numerical analyses to validate and evaluate our developed ISAC performances in supporting mURLLC-oriented QoS requirements.

In this paper, the problem of fault estimation and localization in the connecting dynamic elements of distributed heating and cooling systems are treated. The fault represents the physical parameter change related to the heat transfer between the system and the external environment. First, based on the bi-linear dynamic state space model of the system in the presence of a fault, structural observability analysis using Signed Directed Graph (SDG) has been performed to investigate the sensor placement problem. Then, a nonlinear observer with a parameter adaptation algorithm was proposed for fault estimation. The simulation results show that it can successfully detect and estimate the fault. Fault localization along the length of the element has also been attempted, but it has been found that the localization cannot be performed using practically changeable input variables. Frequency domain analysis is presented to discuss this phenomenon. © 2022 ACM.

Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) technology allows vehicles to communicate with numerous transportation system components. To provide safe communication between vehicles and other entities, V2X depends on Public Key Infrastructure (PKI). However, the present PKI employed in V2X has certain drawbacks, including scalability and high computational cost. This article offers an enhancement to the current PKI in V2X that tackles these constraints by managing and distributing keys using blockchain technology. The suggested Public Key Infrastructure enhancement is intended to be secure, efficient, and scalable, providing a more solid and trustworthy foundation for V2Xcommunication. The article explains the suggested PKI enhancement and examines its advantages and disadvantages. Overall, the suggested Public Key Infrastructure enhancement has the potential to increase the security and dependability of Vehicle-to-Everything communication, allowing for a secure and more effective transportation system. © 2023 IEEE.

The massive ultra-reliable and low-latency communications (mURLLC) services are emerging as a new traffic type to support massive numbers of mobile users (MUs) demanding the stringent delay and error-rate bounded quality-of-services (QoS) requirements over 6G. Among multiple 6G mURLLC services, digital twins (DT) has been widely envisioned as a major intelligent application to support efficient interactions between physical and virtual objects. Moreover, multi-tier caching, which is one of the key distributed computing techniques, stores the frequently-demanded data items at different wireless network tiers to efficiently reduce mURLLC streaming delay and data move. However, how to efficiently cache mURLLC-based DT data items at different caching tiers of wireless networks and how to statistically upper-bound both delay and error-rate for DT communications remain challenging problems. To overcome these difficulties, in this paper we propose a multi-tier caching mechanism to support DT communications over 6 G mobile networks. First, we propose the DT data adaptive collection scheme applying finite blocklength coding (FBC) to dynamically encode a physical object into its virtual representation according to the current network and wireless channel statuses. Second, we develop inter-tier and intra-tier collaborative caching mechanisms, where DT data items are selectively cached at different wireless network caching tiers according to their popularities including: router tier, massive-multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) basestation tier, and mobile device tier. Third, our proposed intertier collaborative caching mechanisms maximize the aggregate $\epsilon$ effective capacity across all three caching tiers, and our proposed intra-tier collaborative caching mechanisms minimize the sum of data transmission delay for all DT data items cached in each caching tier. Industrial Internet of Things can improve critical infrastructure in energy, transportation, and manufacturing. However, IIoT device and system integration opened security weaknesses that bad actors may exploit, causing huge disruptions and financial losses. IoT network security and privacy must be prioritized to protect key infrastructure. IIoT security issues and solutions are examined in this research. First, we take a look at the state of security and the unique risks that industrial IoT devices are up against, including hacking, illegal access, and cyber-physical assaults. Then, to lessen the impact of these dangers, we investigate cutting-edge security solutions, such as authentication, encryption, and access control systems. Building a robust security architecture specifically for IIoT applications is one of the main goals of the project. To improve safety and anonymity, this system uses cutting-edge innovation like blockchain, AI, and edge computing. We also talk about how privacy-preserving methods like differential privacy and anonymization are important for keeping sensitive information safe while allowing data sharing for analysis and operations. We assess the efficacy of the suggested security protocols and procedures using a battery of case studies and simulations. Reducing the attack surface and improving the resilience of IIoT systems can be achieved by a multi-layered security approach that includes effective privacy protections. We conclude by outlining our research's larger implications, which include the importance of standardization, regulatory compliance, and stakeholder collaboration in ensuring the safe and privacy-protecting deployment of IIoT technologies in vital infrastructure. Protecting vital infrastructure from cyber threats is our ultimate goal, and our work helps build IIoT systems that are more secure and dependable. © 2024 IEEE.

The problem of inverse kinematics in serially manipulated upper limb rehabilitation robots involves deducing joint rotation angles from the position of the end-effector. Unlike forward kinematics, inverse kinematics lacks systematic solution approaches, and it is especially challenging for certain robot morphologies. This study proposes a deep learning-based model to estimate joint angles from a specified end-effector position. The model shows considerable effectiveness in calculating joint angles for a variety of target positions. The enhanced position-tracking capability of the proposed algorithm than existing analytical methods will enable the development of efficient controllers in future.

This paper introduces a new variational Gaussian filtering approach for estimating the state of a nonlinear dynamic system. We first assume that the predictive distribution of the state is Gaussian and derive an iterative method for updating the state posterior in the natural parameter space through KullbackLeibler divergence minimization. The obtained update rule is the same as that of the conjugate-computation variational inference technique in Bayesian learning. The derivation here is simpler and more insightful. We then impose a Wishart prior on the inverse of the state prediction covariance to take into account the impact of approximating the state predictive distribution using a Gaussian density on the state posterior estimation. The prediction covariance is identified jointly with the state using variational inference and the established state posterior update rule to achieve the desired Gaussian filtering. Simulation study examines the performance of the proposed filtering framework in target tracking based on bearing and range measurements. © 2024 ISIF.

The conventional hybrid active noise control (ANC, HANC) may significantly degrade if the reference signal for the feedforward ANC (FFANC) subcontroller consists of not only a broadband component but also a low-frequency sinusoidal component that is uncorrelated or partially correlated with the narrowband noise component that is attenuated by the feedback ANC (FBANC) subcontroller. In this paper, a new robust HANC system is proposed to mitigate the performance degradation resulting from the low-frequency sinusoidal component. A band-pass filter bank (BPFB) is applied to the FFANC reference signal to separate the low-frequency sinusoidal component from the broadband one and each of them is fed to an FFANC subcontroller that solely focuses on a single noise component. A supporting filter takes the extracted broadband component and the residual error as its input and desired signal, respectively. The same BPFB is then applied to the supporting filter error in order to separate the remaining low-frequency sinusoidal component from the narrowband component that persists in the residual error. The use of the two BPFBs and the supporting filter allows the three HANC subcontrollers to operate practically independently, each taking care of one of the pre-processed noise components which are uncorrelated with each other irrespective of the relationship between the two original noise sources. Extensive simulations are provided to demonstrate the improved effectiveness and robust capability of the proposed HANC as compared to its counterpart, even in a case that the low-frequency sinusoidal component in the FFANC reference signal is partially corrected with the primary narrowband noise component that is targeted by the FBANC. © 2023 IEEE.

Amputees use prosthetic devices to perform activities of daily living. However, some users reject their devices due to the lack of usability or high cognitive workload. Although virtual reality has been studied in this domain for training purposes, there has not been any investigation on usability and cognitive workload of using virtual reality simulations for training of prosthetic devices. The objective of this study was to compare cognitive workload and usability of using virtual reality-based simulation of electromyography based prosthetic devices and physical devices. The findings suggested that using virtual reality simulations were helpful in reducing cognitive workload and increasing perceived usability of prosthetic devices. © 2023 IEEE.
