This paper is concerned with the synthesis of strategies in network systems with active cyber deception. Active deception in a network employs decoy systems and other defenses to conduct defensive planning against the intrusion of malicious attackers who have been confirmed by sensing systems. In this setting, the defender's objective is to ensure the satisfaction of security properties specified in temporal logic formulas. We formulate the problem of deceptive planning with decoy systems and other defenses as a two-player games with asymmetrical information and Boolean payoffs in temporal logic. We use level-2 hypergame with temporal logic objectives to capture the incomplete/incorrect knowledge of the attacker about the network system as a payoff misperception. The true payoff function is private information of the defender. Then, we extend the solution concepts of ω-regular games to analyze the attacker's rational strategy given her incomplete information. By generalizing the solution of level-2 hypergame in the normal form to extensive form, we extend the solutions of games with safe temporal logic objectives to decide whether the defender can ensure security properties to be satisfied with probability one, given any possible strategy that is perceived to be rational by the attacker. Further, we use the solution of games with co-safe (reachability) temporal logic objectives to determine whether the defender can engage the attacker, by directing the attacker to a high-fidelity honeypot. The skin effect, where bulk modes collapse into boundary modes, is a key phenomenon in topological non-Hermitian systems, has been predominantly studied in spinless systems. Recent studies illustrate the magnetic suppression of the first-order skin effect while ignoring spin. However, the physical significance of a magnetic field in non-Hermitian skin effect with spin remains elusive. Here, we systematically explore non-Hermitian spinful systems based on generalized Hatano-Nelson models with SU(2) gauge potential fields. In an open one-dimensional lattice, the spin-up and spin-down states can be uniquely separated and localized at the two boundaries without magnetic field. When an external magnetic field is applied, the skin effect exhibits a smooth transition from bidirectional to unidirectional. Remarkably, we demonstrate that the first-order skin effect can be anomalously induced by a magnetic field in a topologically trivial non-Hermitian spinful system without any skin effect at zero field. The direction of such magnetically induced skin modes can be controlled by simply changing the amplitude and polarity of the magnetic field. In addition, we demonstrate a transition between non-Bloch PT and anti-PT symmetries in the system, and uncover the spin-dependent mechanism of non-Bloch PT symmetry. This work discusses the implementation and experimentation of a control system designed to guide a multi-robot formation of one aerial and three ground robots, in a trajectory tracking task. The implementation considers three partial formations of two robots, each one associated to a virtual structure, a straight line in the 3D space with its own formation controller. Two of the partial line formations are homogeneous formations of two ground vehicles, and the third one is a heterogeneous formation, involving a ground and an aerial vehicles. All the partial formations have the same reference for position, which is one of the ground vehicles. This also allows to discuss what would happen if this ground vehicle, the reference for all the line formations, and thus for the whole formation, presents a failure, what is considered here, in connection to an escorting mission. The result is that the designed control system is effectively able to accomplish the mission, even upon a failure of the reference robot, what is validated by experimental results also discussed here. © 2019 IEEE.

We explore nonequilibrium quantum heat transport in nonlinear bosonic systems in the presence of a non-Kerr-type interaction governed by hyperparametric oscillation due to two-photon hopping between the two cavities. We estimate the thermodynamic response analytically by constructing the su(2) algebra of the nonlinear Hamiltonian and predict that the system exhibits a negative excitation mode. Consequently, this specific form of interaction enables the cooling of the system by inducing a ground-state transition when the number of particles increases, even though the interaction strength is small. We demonstrate a transition of the heat current numerically in the presence of symmetric coupling between the system and the bath and show long relaxation times in the cooling phase. We compare with the Kerr-type Bose-Hubbard form of interaction induced via cross-phase modulation, which does not exhibit any such transition. We further compute the nonequilibrium heat current in the presence of two baths at different temperatures and observe that the cooling effect for the non-Kerr-type interaction persists. Our findings may help in the manipulation of quantum states using the system's interactions to induce cooling.

This work discusses a trajectory tracking task accomplished by a group of three Bebop 2 quadrotors working cooperatively to transport a load. Such unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are considered as a triangular formation, and the load, a triangle-shaped structure, is attached to them through massless flexible cables. The reason to use three quadrotors is the gain in terms of the payload capability and the stability of the load, since it is attached to three vehicles, staying vertically aligned with the center of mass of the triangle correspondent to the formation. A formation controller, actually a kinematic controller applied to a virtual massless robot correspondent to the center of mass of the triangle, is adopted, which generates reference velocities for the three UAVs, whose movement generates the movement and reshaping of the triangular formation. Then, individual dynamic compensators are adopted for each UAV, whose input is the reference velocity delivered by the formation controller. Finally, experimental results are discussed, which validate the proposal.

Metasurfaces are ultrathin planar arrays of carefully tailored subwavelength particles that enable agile and flexible manipulation of the impinging waves. Originally introduced in optics, their application to acoustic waves has recently opened exciting opportunities for exotic sound control. In conventional acoustic inclusions, the interactions with the impinging pressure and velocity are decoupled, limiting the functionalities that arrays of them can achieve. While the coupling between these two quantities in symmetry-breaking inclusions, known as Willis coupling, has been discussed for several years, only recently has it been realized that these phenomena can become nonperturbative in suitably tailored resonant scatterers. Here, we explore the opportunities that these Willis meta-atoms open in the context of acoustic metasurfaces, offering additional knobs to manipulate and tailor sound. The general response of Willis metasurface is analytically derived, yielding fundamental bounds and optimal surface responses enabling full control of the impinging acoustic wave front.

Detection of Toxic Contaminants in Alcohol-Based Hand Sanitizers Using Infrared Spectroscopy

Recent fatalities due to methanol and 1-propanol toxicity in alcohol-based hand sanitizers has led the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to ban 594 different hand sanitizer brands. The FDA also introduced methanol testing in alcohol-based hand sanitizers before allowing the products to enter the United States This requirement creates a need for inexpensive, rapid, and portable testing methods to measure methanol and 1-propanol concentrations in alcohol-based hand sanitizers. Here we study the performance of infrared (IR) spectroscopy for measuring methanol and 1-propanol concentrations in an alcohol-based hand sanitizer, and compare the performance of two portable spectrometers, Texas Instruments near-infrared (NIR) spectrometer (TI NIR) and NeoSpectra mid-infrared (MIR) spectrometer. The IR absorbance spectra were measured in transmission mode at different path lengths for 52 different hand sanitizer samples spiked with 0%–1% v/v concentrations of methanol and 1-propanol. A partial least-squares regression analysis shows ability to detect contaminant concentrations with a correlation coefficient of determination (r2) up to 0.99 and root mean square error of prediction as low as 0.34% v/v.

Strongly enhanced electron-electron interaction in semiconducting moiré superlattices formed by transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) heterobilayers has led to a plethora of intriguing fermionic correlated states1–7. Meanwhile, interlayer excitons in a type-II aligned TMDC heterobilayer moiré superlattice, with electrons and holes separated in different layers8,9, inherit this enhanced interaction and strongly interact with each other, promising for realizing tunable correlated bosonic quasiparticles10,11 with valley degree of freedom. We employ photoluminescence spectroscopy to investigate the strong repulsion between interlayer excitons and correlated electrons in a WS2/WSe2 moiré superlattice and combine with theoretical calculations to reveal the spatial extent of interlayer excitons and the band hierarchy of correlated states. We further find that an excitonic Mott insulator state emerges when one interlayer exciton occupies one moiré cell, evidenced by emerging photoluminescence peaks under increased optical excitation power. Double occupancy of excitons in one unit cell requires overcoming the energy cost of exciton-exciton repulsion of about 30-40 meV, depending on the stacking configuration of the WS2/WSe2 heterobilayer. Further, the valley polarization of the excitonic Mott insulator state is enhanced by nearly one order of magnitude. We conducted a tip-enhanced Raman scattering spectroscopy (TERS) and photoluminescence (PL) study of quasi-1D TaSe3-δ nanoribbons exfoliated onto gold substrates. At a selenium deficiency of δ~0.25 (Se/Ta=2.75,), the nanoribbons exhibit a strong, broad PL peak centered around ~920 nm (1.35 eV), suggesting their semiconducting behavior. Such nanoribbons revealed a strong TERS response under 785-nm laser excitation, allowing for their nanoscale spectroscopic imaging. Nanoribbons with a smaller selenium deficiency (Se/Ta=2.85, δ~0.15) did not show any PL or TERS response. The confocal Raman spectra of these samples agree with the previously-reported spectra of metallic TaSe3. The differences in the optical response of the nanoribbons examined in this study suggest that even small variations in Se content can induce changes in electronic structure, causing samples to exhibit either metallic or semiconducting character. The temperature-dependent electrical measurements of devices fabricated with both types of materials corroborate these observations. The density-functional-theory calculations revealed that incorporation of an oxygen atom in a Se vacancy can result in band gap opening and thus enable the transition from a metal to a semiconductor. However, the predicted bandgap is substantially smaller than that derived from PL data. These results indicate that the properties of van der Waals materials can vary significantly depending on stoichiometry, defect types and concentration, and possibly environmental and substrate effects. In view of this finding, local probing of nanoribbon properties with TERS becomes essential to understanding such low-dimensional systems. Copyright © 2021, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Admission of new students in 2019 through zoning still faces many obstacles, one of which is the readiness of the application to determine the distance of a student's house from the nearest recommended school. The purpose of this study is to provide better recommendations regarding the shortest and most accurate distance in the zoning system for admission of junior high school students in Malang by using the Generate and Test algorithm without having to do it manually or using other map applications. The results of this study indicate that the distance value obtained from the haversine formula corresponds to the original distance measured through a zoning application that applies the Generate and Test algorithm to measure the closest distance from the student's location. The recommended distance is given through a process of repetition and comparison of nodes. By using the generate and test algorithm for the search process the shortest distance from the user to the destination school has an average time of 6.2MB, the level of accuracy is the same as the Haversine calculation. © 2020 IEEE.
