Driven by the Internet of Things (IoT) revolution, the automotive industry is transforming itself significantly. Ve-hicles, once merely transportation machines, have now evolved into complex networks of sensors and actuators. This evolution heralds an era of intelligent and connected vehicles that collect and analyze real-time data, benefiting various sectors. In response to this scenario, this paper introduces a framework for collecting and processing vehicular information, leveraging the capabilities of Edge Computing. The framework integrates the OBD-II Edge (Freematics ONE+) technology for efficient data acquisition, harnessing the power of Edge Computing to enable real-time data processing and immediate response at the network's edge. Additionally, Node-RED and Kafka technologies are utilized for efficient data handling and routing, while the Timescale database ensures optimized storage of time-series data. Finally, the Streamlit tool provides an intuitive data visualization interface, enhancing data analysis and decision-making processes. Evaluated through a real-case scenario study, this proposal has proven viable and effective, providing analyses that directly contribute to vehicular safety and preventive maintenance, while also enhancing logistical operations in the field.

The Neural Networks (NN) model which is incorporated in the control system design has been studied, and the results show better performance than the mathematical model approach. However, some studies consider that only offline NN model learning and does not use the online NN model learning directly on the control system. As a result, the controller's performance decreases due to changes in the system environment from time to time. The Reinforcement Learning (RL) method has been investigated intensively, especially Model-based RL (Mb-RL) to predict system dynamics. It has been investigated and performs well in making the system more robust to environmental changes by enabling online learning. This paper proposes online learning of local dynamics using the Mb-RL method by utilizing Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) model. We consider Model Predictive Control (MPC) scheme as an agent of the Mb-RL method to control the regulatory trajectory objectives with a random shooting policy to search for the minimum objective function. A nonlinear Mass Spring Damper (NMSD) system with parameter-varying linear inertia is used to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. The simulation results show that the system can effectively control high-oscillating nonlinear systems with good performance.

This paper proposes an alternative detection frame-work for multiple sclerosis (MS) and idiopathic acute transverse myelitis (ATM) within the 6G-enabled Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) environment. The developed framework relies on the implementation of a deep learning technique known as Dense Convolutional Networks (DenseNets) in the 6G-enabled IoMT to enhance prediction performance. To validate the performance of DenseNets, we compared it with other deep learning techniques, including Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) and MobileNet, using real-world datasets. The experimental results show the high performance of DenseNets in predicting MS and ATM compared to other methods, achieving an accuracy of nearly 90 %.

A text encoder within Vision-Language Models (VLMs) like CLIP plays a crucial role in translating textual input into an embedding space shared with images, thereby facilitating the interpretative analysis of vision tasks through natural language. Despite the varying significance of different textual elements within a sentence depending on the context, efforts to account for variation of importance in constructing text embeddings have been lacking. We propose a framework of Semantic Token Reweighting to build Interpretable text embeddings (SToRI), which incorporates controllability as well. SToRI refines the text encoding process in CLIP by differentially weighting semantic elements based on contextual importance, enabling finer control over emphasis responsive to data-driven insights and user preferences. The efficacy of SToRI is demonstrated through comprehensive experiments on few-shot image classification and image retrieval tailored to user preferences. © 2024, CC BY-NC-SA.

Recent large language models (LLMs) have excelled across a wide range of tasks, but their use in high-stakes and compute-limited settings has intensified the demand for interpretability and efficiency. We address this need by proposing Induction-head ngram models (Induction-Gram), a method that builds an efficient, interpretable LM by bolstering modern ngram models with a hand-engineered "induction head". This induction head uses a custom neural similarity metric to efficiently search the model’s input context for potential next-word completions. This process enables Induction-Gram to provide ngram-level grounding for each generated token. Moreover, experiments show that this simple method significantly improves next-word prediction over baseline interpretable models (up to 26%p) and can be used to speed up LLM inference for large models through speculative decoding. We further study Induction-Gram in a natural-language neuroscience setting, where the goal is to predict the next fMRI response in a sequence. It again provides a significant improvement over interpretable models (20% relative increase in the correlation of predicted fMRI responses), potentially enabling deeper scientific investigation of language selectivity in the brain. Reduction of active power losses in distribution networks is an important issue, which is usually addressed through a separate, sequential, or simultaneous feeder reconfiguration (FR), volt-var regulation (e.g., capacitor placement, CP), and control of distributed energy resources (DERs). However, finding optimal solution for a coordinated FR, CP, and DER control requires significant computational efforts, which are additionally increased when variations in loading conditions are considered. Therefore, load variations are usually neglected in related analysis, although changes in power flows influence changes in network losses and, consequently, optimal controls for FR, CP and DERs. This paper presents the analysis of both benefits and disadvantages of including not only the peak demands, but also different loading conditions for a coordinated implementation of FR, CP and DER controls for the reduction of losses. The analysis is illustrated on the several distribution test networks and using representative load patterns from the existing literature. The obtained results suggest that the inclusion of load variations requires significantly longer computational times, but in some cases affects optimal solutions for FR, CP and DER controls (their numbers, locations and settings).

This study focuses on the economic comparison between 12 MWp PV floating and PV on-ground solar farms in an industrial estate in Thailand. The objective is to evaluate the economic feasibility and electricity-produced efficiency of both systems. This study uses models for both power generation systems and collects data on investment and operational costs over a 20-year project lifespan, using a discount rate of 10% and a Time of Use (TOU) electricity rate for medium-sized businesses with a voltage of 22–33 kV, where the peak period rate is 0.113 USD/kWh and the off-peak period rate is 0.07 USD/kWh [1]. The evaluation uses indicators such as NPV, IRR, Payback Period, B/C Ratio, and sensitivity analysis under two scenarios: 1) the investment cost changes by ±5%, while 2) the electricity selling price changes by ±5% every 5 years during peak periods. The study found that the initial investment for PV floating power plants is 8.77 million USD, while PV on-ground power plants require an initial investment of 9.36 million USD. Economic evaluation reveals that PV floating has an NPV of 1.25 million USD > 0, an IRR of 12% > 10%, a payback period of 7.07 years, and a B/C ratio of 1.14 > 1, whereas PV on-ground has an NPV of 0.36 million USD > 0, an IRR of 11%, a payback period of 7.83 years, and a B/C ratio of 1.04> 1. When conducting sensitivity analysis under both scenarios, PV floating meets all criteria, whereas PV on-ground fails to meet the criteria when variables causing a decrease in net profit are applied. As a result, the study concludes that PV floating solar farms are more economically viable than PV on-ground solar farms in Thailand's industrial estates.

Understanding the characteristics of depressed speech can provide insights on aspects to consider when developing biomarkers for automatic depression detection systems. We present the results of a speech intelligibility study that was conducted to assess the intelligibility of the speech of a female and a male subject when they were severely depressed and when they were in remission. Our analysis shows that, in general, the depressed speech is at least as intelligible as in-remission speech. This is further supported by the underlying "simpler" articulatory coordination of depressed speech as derived from the Articulatory Coordination Features. Acoustically, the simpler articulatory coordination means that there is less variability due to coarticulation in the speech signal. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

In general, public or private organizations or companies have used information-based technology as a support to improve business performance to be more effective and efficient in order to achieve a company’s business goals. Given the large contribution of information technology in the application of hotel applications as a supporting information system, it is a vital system that must avoid risks that can hinder and cause harm to the hotel management business processes. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out risk management using the COBIT 5 framework to manage possible risks that may occur based on the APO12 (Manage Risk) domain. From the evaluation results of the data obtained through observation and interviews as well as the calculation of the results of the questionnaire based on 6 APO12 subdomains, the results of the risk management level capability assessment in hotel applications are still at level 3 or have reached the level of established process with the target to be achieved at level 4 resulting in a gap of 1 level. Based on the results obtained, it is necessary to propose recommendations that can be used by hotels in improving the application of information technology risk management so that in the future it can achieve the expected target level so that the APO12 level of capability can increase and become more optimal.

This paper introduces an alternative technique for diagnosing Acute Ischemic Stroke within the IoMT environment. In the proposed approach, the collected data is transmitted to a cloud-based center where the technique utilizes EfficientNet, a deep learning model, designed to extract features from MRI images thereby enhancing the detection of acute ischemic infarctions. The performance of EfficientNet is compared against two other models, CNN and MobileNet, demonstrating its superior efficacy through metrics such as accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score, which stand at 92.31%, 92.28%, 92.33%, and 92.30%, respectively.
