Real objects in general are fractional-order (FO) systems, although in some types of systems the order is very close to integer order (IO). Since major advances have been made in the theory and practice of the identification of FO controlled objects and in the design of FO controllers, it is possible to consider also the real order of the dynamical systems and consider more quality criterion while designing the FO controllers with more degrees of freedom compared to their IO counterparts. In this paper, we present an application of the retuning method to design and apply new FO controller for the existing laboratory feedback control system with no modifications in the internal architecture of the original feedback control system. Along with the mathematical description, presented are also simulation results.

The prediction of landslide displacement is essential for carrying out to improve the disaster warning system and reduce casualties and property losses. This study applies a novel neural network technique, extreme learning machine (ELM) with kernel function, to landslide displacement prediction problem. However, the generalization performance of ELM with kernel function depends closely on the kernel types and the kernel parameters. In this paper, we use a convex combination of Gaussian kernel function and polynomial kernel function in ELM, which may use these two types of kernel functions' advantages. In order to avoid blindness and inaccuracy in parameter selection, a novel hybrid optimization algorithm based on the combination of Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and Gravitational Search Algorithm (GSA) is used to optimize the regularization parameter C, the Gaussian kernel parameter γ, the polynomial kernel parameter q and the mixing weight coefficient η. The performance of our model is verified through two case studies in Baishuihe landslide and Yuhuangge landslide.

In this work, the clock synchronization problem for wireless sensor networks is addressed. In our scenario, we consider a wireless sensor network where nodes are equipped with a local clock hardware and communicate in order to achieve a common sense of time. This work introduces a novel synchronization algorithm able to ensure a good level of synchronization even in the presence of random bounded communication delays. A theoretical analysis of the robustness of the proposed algorithm is proposed along with simulations to corroborate the theoretical finding.

In the article a therapy selection method by using topological modelling and multi- objective optimization is presented. In a medicine practice a doctor by taking into the count patients' health state and laboratory results, tries to suggest a treatment strategy, which mostly is a drug therapy. To solve this task a decision support system has been developed and proposed. The system includes a mathematical model of three self connected diseases. Therapies are evaluated by five efficiency objectives. To find the optimal therapy, seven multi- objective methods are selected and used. Optimization methods form decision support module which is implemented in the medical computer system. To evaluate a performance of the system, test examples are analysed. Conclusion includes the summary and proposals of further research.

The isotope (13C) has a widespread application in many fields such as chemistry, physics, medicine, etc. To obtain a high concentration in isotope of interest, in our case (13C), it is used the method of cryogenic distillation of carbon monoxide (CO) which is based on the difference between the vapor pressure of (12C16O) and (13C16O) at the temperature of liquid nitrogen. Isotopic separation plant, used to obtain the isotope (13C), is a complex installation, with many inputs and outputs, rather difficult to control. Due to this reason, from the point of view of automation, it is needed a simplified mathematical model. This model can be determined only with some presumption and simplification assumptions. Using the physical laws, the hydrodynamic part of the process and the mass balance will be described by partial differential equations. In order to design a controller for the column, it is needed a transfer function or a statespace realization of the plant, which is the main contribution of the present work. Implementing this mathematical model will be the key element for describing and understanding the operation of the plant and for future development of process control strategies.
