In this paper, a novel clustered FL framework that enables distributed edge devices with non-IID data to independently form several clusters in a distributed manner and implement FL training within each cluster is proposed. In particular, our designed clustered FL algorithm must overcome two challenges associated with FL training. First, the server has limited FL training information (i.e., the parameter server can only obtain the FL model information of each device) and limited computational power for finding the differences among a large amount of devices. Second, each device does not have the data information of other devices for device clustering and can only use global FL model parameters received from the server and its data information to determine its cluster identity, which will increase the difficulty of device clustering. To overcome these two challenges, we propose a joint gradient and loss based distributed clustering method in which each device determines its cluster identity considering the gradient similarity and training loss. The proposed clustering method not only considers how a local FL model of one device contributes to each cluster but also the direction of gradient descent thus improving clustering speed. By delegating clustering decisions to edge devices, each device can fully leverage its private data information to determine its own cluster identity, thereby reducing clustering overhead and improving overall clustering performance. Simulation results demonstrate that our proposed clustered FL algorithm can reduce clustering iterations by up to 99% compared to the existing baseline. © 2024 IEEE.

Diffusion models are powerful generative models, and this capability can also be applied to discrimination. The inner activations of a pre-trained diffusion model can serve as features for discriminative tasks, namely, diffusion feature. We discover that diffusion feature has been hindered by a hidden yet universal phenomenon that we call content shift. To be specific, there are content differences between features and the input image, such as the exact shape of a certain object. We locate the cause of content shift as one inherent characteristic of diffusion models, which suggests the broad existence of this phenomenon in diffusion feature. Further empirical study also indicates that its negative impact is not negligible even when content shift is not visually perceivable. Hence, we propose to suppress content shift to enhance the overall quality of diffusion features. Specifically, content shift is related to the information drift during the process of recovering an image from the noisy input, pointing out the possibility of turning off-the-shelf generation techniques into tools for content shift suppression. We further propose a practical guideline named GATE to efficiently evaluate the potential benefit of a technique and provide an implementation of our methodology. Despite the simplicity, the proposed approach has achieved superior results on various tasks and datasets, validating its potential as a generic booster for diffusion features. Generative artificial intelligence, particularly through large language models (LLMs), is poised to transform energy optimization and demand side management (DSM) within microgrids. This paper explores the integration of LLMs into energy management, emphasizing their roles in automating the optimization of DSM strategies with Internet of electric vehicles. We investigate challenges and solutions associated with DSM and explore the new opportunities presented by leveraging LLMs. Then, we propose an innovative solution that enhances LLMs with retrieval-augmented generation for automatic problem formulation, code generation, and customizing optimization. We present a case study to demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed solution in charging scheduling and optimization for electric vehicles, highlighting our solution’s significant advancements in energy efficiency and user adaptability. Large scale artificial intelligence (AI) models possess excellent capabilities in semantic representation and understanding, making them particularly well-suited for semantic encoding and decoding. However, the substantial scale of these AI models imposes unacceptable computational resources and communication delays. To address this issue, we propose a semantic communication scheme based on robust knowledge distillation (RKD-SC) for large scale model enabled semantic communications. In the considered system, a transmitter extracts the features of the source image for robust transmission and accurate image classification at the receiver. To effectively utilize the superior capability of large scale model while make the cost affordable, we first transfer knowledge from a large scale model to a smaller scale model to serve as the semantic encoder. Then, to enhance the robustness of the system against channel noise, we propose a channel-aware autoencoder (CAA) based on the Transformer architecture. Experimental results show that the encoder of proposed RKD-SC system can achieve over 93.3% of the performance of a large scale model while compressing 96.67% number of parameters. As the largest source of technical information around the world, patents are regarded as an essential crystallization and carrier of knowledge and technological innovation. Patent transformation is conducive not only to enhancing economic efficiency, but also to improving productivity and the rational utilization of resources. There is an imbalance between high patent ownership and low transformation rates. We try to predict the occurrence of transformation events from the patent assignment. However, there are some challenges in predicting patent transformation: (1) how to capture transformation features of patents, especially combined with the transfer time factor. (2) how to predict patent transfer time effectively. To address these challenges, a Patent Transfer Time Forecasting Model (PTTFM) is proposed. The model includes: (1) extraction of time-varying features of patents. (2) the patent transfer time is forecast using a Neural Temporal Point Process. By testing the model on patents under different classifications, the experimental results are obtained to show that the proposed model is applicable to predict the timing of patent assignment within a certain time frame, especially one month. Our work may facilitate patent transformation while interpretability is ensured for transformation events. © 2023 IEEE.

Reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) has been recognized as a promising solution for enhancing localization accuracy. Traditional RIS-based localization methods typically rely on prior channel knowledge, beam scanning, and pilot-based assistance. These approaches often result in substantial energy and computational overhead, and require real-time coordination between the base station (BS) and the RIS. In this work, we propose a novel multiple RISs aided localization approach to address these challenges. The proposed method first estimates the angle-of-directions (AoDs) between the RISs and the user using the conditional sample mean approach, and then uses the estimated multiple AoD pairs to determine the user’s position. This approach only requires measuring the received signal strength at the BS for a set of randomly generated phase shifts across all RISs, thereby eliminating the need for real-time RIS phase shift design or user-to-BS pilot transmissions. Numerical results show that the proposed localization approach improves localization accuracy while significantly reducing energy and signaling overhead compared to conventional methods. Intellectual property transactions have shown a strong growth momentum in recent years, but the patent transaction market has been plagued by the matching degree of consumers and sellers, resulting in frequent problems such as low patent transformation efficiency and poor transaction quality. This paper proposes a method of recommending patents to consumers by experts to improve the environment of patent transactions. Through the analysis of the past transaction information of the patent, the effective path information of the target is extracted. The graph neural network is used to describe the characteristics and semantics among experts, patents and consumers, and then capture the potential weight among them through the common attention mechanism, and then dynamically integrate them to predict the occurrence of recommendation behavior. The paper makes reasonable use of social information and expert information in the transaction, which significantly improves the rationality and accuracy of expert recommendation. © 2023 IEEE.

Diffusion models are initially designed for image generation. Recent research shows that the internal signals within their backbones, named activations, can also serve as dense features for various discriminative tasks such as semantic segmentation. Given numerous activations, selecting a small yet effective subset poses a fundamental problem. To this end, the early study of this field performs a large-scale quantitative comparison of the discriminative ability of the activations. However, we find that many potential activations have not been evaluated, such as the queries and keys used to compute attention scores. Moreover, recent advancements in diffusion architectures bring many new activations, such as those within embedded ViT modules. Both combined, activation selection remains unresolved but overlooked. To tackle this issue, this paper takes a further step with a much broader range of activations evaluated. Considering the significant increase in activations, a full-scale quantitative comparison is no longer operational. Instead, we seek to understand the properties of these activations, such that the activations that are clearly inferior can be filtered out in advance via simple qualitative evaluation. After careful analysis, we discover three properties universal among diffusion models, enabling this study to go beyond specific models. On top of this, we present effective feature selection solutions for several popular diffusion models. Finally, the experiments across multiple discriminative tasks validate the superiority of our method over the SOTA competitors. Standardized big data, as a product of the combination of big data and standardization work, objectively reflects the status quo and trends of standardization work. An in-depth study of the distribution characteristics of standardized big data resources has important value for improving the efficiency of standardization. Therefore, this paper explores the characteristics of the distribution of standardization resources from the dimensions of spatial and temporal distribution, industry distribution, standard type distribution, and distribution of think tank experts through visual analysis methods. The study shows that: (1) the distribution of standardization resources in Shandong Province presents significant hierarchical and geographical characteristics;(2) from the viewpoint of the distribution of industry types and standard types, the distribution of standardization resources in Shandong Province presents a typical "long-tailed distribution";(3) the distribution of think-tank experts presents obvious "agglomeration effect". © 2024 IEEE.

The conventional method for calculating user similarity in the collaborative filtering recommendation algorithm based on users fails to address the challenge of variations in the number, value, and popularity of items that are collaboratively rated by multiple users. In order to solve the above problems, a new user similarity calculation method is proposed. By fusing cosine similarity and Jackard similarity, the problem of difference in the number of common scoring items is alleviated, so as to reduce the error of scoring prediction. Finally, experiments were performed on the MovieLens dataset, and the findings demonstrated that the enhanced algorithm outperforms the established benchmark similarity algorithm regarding mean absolute error (MAE). In addition, the improved algorithm has good robustness in predicting the accuracy of user ratings and recommendation quality. © 2023 IEEE.
