Recently, Discriminative Correlation Filter based trackers have increasingly become popular in the domain of visual object tracking, which is benefited by their effective and robustness in terms of tracking performance. However, the significant variations of target appearance, such as Occlusion or Deformation, always suppress the performance improvement. Although the multi-feature fusion strategy partly alleviates the above factors, the synthetic scheme also ambiguates the overall presentation ability of multiple features and results in degradation of discriminative power during classification filter learning. In this paper, we present a novel tracking framework based on the correlation filter with multiple kernel learning. Instead of directly integrating different features, we decompose a tracking process into several module, including low-dimension modules and high-dimension modules. The handcraft features extracted from low-dimension modules are robust to the small variation of target while the semantic convolutional features from the high-dimension modules can distinguish the target object from the relative complex tracking environment. In addition, we also design a reliability detection mechanism based on the confidence map to accurately measure the important degree of each kernel learning and precisely estimate the target state in the subsequent frames. For verifying our proposed tracker, we conduct extensive experiments on several standard sequence benchmark. Experiment results show that our proposed trackers perform favorably against other state-of-the-art trackers. © 2022 ACM.

Multi-atlas segmentation methods will benefit from atlases covering the complete spectrum of population patterns, while the difficulties in generating such large enough datasets and the computation burden required in the segmentation procedure reduce its practicality in clinical application. In this work, we start from a viewpoint that different parts of the target object can be recognized by different atlases and propose a precision atlas selection strategy. By comparing regional similarity between target image and atlases, precision atlases are ranked and selected by the frequency of regional best match, which have no need to be globally similar to the target subject at either image-level or object-level, largely increasing the implicit patterns contained in the atlas set. In the proposed anatomy recognition method, atlas building is first achieved by all-totemplate registration, where the minimum spanning tree (MST) strategy is used to select a registration template from a subset of radiologically near-normal images. Then, a two-stage recognition process is conducted: in rough recognition, sub-image level similarity is calculated between the test image and each image of the whole atlas set, and only the atlas with the highest similarity contributes to the recognition map regionally;in refined recognition, the atlases with the highest frequencies of best match are selected as the precision atlases and are utilized to further increase the accuracy of boundary matching. The proposed method is demonstrated on 298 computed tomography (CT) images and 9 organs in the Head and Neck (HN) body region. Experimental results illustrate that our method is effective for organs with different segmentation challenge and samples with different image quality, where remarkable improvement in boundary interpretation is made by refined recognition and most objects achieve a localization error within 2 voxels. © 2021 SPIE.

Online Continual Learning via Logit Adjusted Softmax

Online continual learning is a challenging problem where models must learn from a non-stationary data stream while avoiding catastrophic forgetting. Inter-class imbalance during training has been identified as a major cause of forgetting, leading to model prediction bias towards recently learned classes. In this paper, we theoretically analyze that inter-class imbalance is entirely attributed to imbalanced class-priors, and the function learned from intra-class intrinsic distributions is the optimal classifier that minimizes the class-balanced error. To that end, we present that a simple adjustment of model logits during training can effectively resist prior class bias and pursue the corresponding optimum. Our proposed method, Logit Adjusted Softmax, can mitigate the impact of inter-class imbalance not only in class-incremental but also in realistic scenarios that sum up class and domain incremental learning, with little additional computational cost. We evaluate our approach on various benchmarks and demonstrate significant performance improvements compared to prior arts. For example, our approach improves the best baseline by 4.6% on CIFAR10. We propose an unsupervised person search method for video surveillance. This method considers both the spatial features of persons within each frame and the temporal relationship of the same person among different frames. Thus, the spatial features are extracted by region convolutional neural network, and the temporal relationship is organized by gate recurrent unit. The spatio-temporal features are generated by the following average pooling layer and indexed by locality sensitive hashing. A surveillance video database is constructed to evaluate the proposed method, and the experimental results demonstrate that our method improves the search accuracy by utilizing the spatio-temporal features. © 2022 ACM.

Gait planning of quadruped robots plays an important role in achieving less walking, including dynamic and static gait. In this article, a static and dynamic gait control method based on center of gravity stability margin is proposed. Firstly, the robot model and kinematics modeling are introduced. Secondly, the robot's foot static and dynamic gait were planned and the foot trajectory was designed. Finally, two types of gait of the robot were simulated using Vrep simulation software, and the differences in stability and speed between the coordinated gait with speed and stability in the static and dynamic gait of a 12 degree of freedom robot were analyzed, verifying the effectiveness of the gait control method proposed in this paper. © 2023 IEEE.

Progressive Motion Context Refine Network for Efficient Video Frame Interpolation

Recently, flow-based frame interpolation methods have achieved great success by first modeling optical flow between target and input frames, and then building synthesis network for target frame generation. However, above cascaded architecture can lead to large model size and inference delay, hindering them from mobile and real-time applications. To solve this problem, we propose a novel Progressive Motion Context Refine Network (PMCRNet) to predict motion fields and image context jointly for higher efficiency. Different from others that directly synthesize target frame from deep feature, we explore to simplify frame interpolation task by borrowing existing texture from adjacent input frames, which means that decoder in each pyramid level of our PMCRNet only needs to update easier intermediate optical flow, occlusion merge mask and image residual. Moreover, we introduce a new annealed multi-scale reconstruction loss to better guide the learning process of this efficient PMCRNet. Experiments on multiple benchmarks show that proposed approaches not only achieve favorable quantitative and qualitative results but also reduces current model size and running time significantly. CT scans are an exceptional tool for quantitative airway analysis. Due to the complex voxel connectivity and branch structure of the airway, precise and fine segmentation results are difficult to accomplish. We propose a fully automated and end-to-end approach for airway segmentation and branch detection in chest CT based on U-Net architecture. We introduce the SE Normalization as a module for feature calibration and the hard region adaptation loss function based on cross entropy (HRA_CE) for dynamically maintaining class balance throughout the training period. We present a brand-new metric Branch DSC designed exclusively to assess the branch structure. We validate the suggested method on a dataset of 46 airway samples, and the experimental findings demonstrate that our proposed method significantly improves branch detection and segmentation continuity.

Learning with Explicit Shape Priors for Medical image Segmentation

Medical image segmentation is a fundamental task for medical image analysis and surgical planning. In recent years, UNet-based networks have prevailed in the field of medical image segmentation. However, convolution-neural networks (CNNs) suffer from limited receptive fields, which fail to model the long-range dependency of organs or tumors. Besides, these models are heavily dependent on the training of the final segmentation head. And existing methods can not well address these two limitations at the same time. Hence, in our work, we proposed a novel shape prior module (SPM), which can explicitly introduce shape priors to promote the segmentation performance of UNet-based models. The explicit shape priors consist of global and local shape priors. The former with coarse shape representations provides networks with capabilities to model global contexts. The latter with finer shape information serves as additional guidance to boost the segmentation performance, which relieves the heavy dependence on the learnable prototype in the segmentation head. To evaluate the effectiveness of SPM, we conduct experiments on three challenging public datasets. And our proposed model achieves state-of-the-art performance. Furthermore, SPM shows an outstanding generalization ability on classic CNNs and recent Transformer-based backbones, which can serve as a plug- and-play structure for the segmentation task of different datasets. In this paper, we focus on the follicular unit registration problem for hair transplantation surgery robots based on binocular stereo vision system. The follicular units in both images are detected with YOLO V5 network. Because of the dull and similar pattern of the follicular units, previous regular methods which are pixel-based are reported with misalignment and poor accuracy. To solve this problem, we propose the context shape to describe the feature of the follicular unit. The distribution of units surrounding the target unit is estimated as the context shape. Then, Otsu’s method is used to segment hairs and Hungarian algorithm is used to match the hairs in the matched follicular unit. Then, the hairs are projected to 3D coordinate system and reconstructed. The experiments on the generated hair dataset demonstrate that the proposed method achieves both high accuracy and speed.
