The Transformer model, initially achieving significant success in the field of natural language processing, has recently shown great potential in the application of tactile perception. This review aims to comprehensively outline the application and development of Transformers in tactile technology. We first introduce the two fundamental concepts behind the success of the Transformer: the self-attention mechanism and large-scale pre-training. Then, we delve into the application of Transformers in various tactile tasks, including but not limited to object recognition, cross-modal generation, and object manipulation, offering a concise summary of the core methodologies, performance benchmarks, and design highlights. Finally, we suggest potential areas for further research and future work, aiming to generate more interest within the community, tackle existing challenges, and encourage the use of Transformer models in the tactile field. In the women's community, Breast Cancer (BC) is a severe disease. The World Health Organization reported in 2020 that 2.26 million deaths occur due to BC. BC is curable if detected early. Since thermal imaging is non-invasive and supports disease detection, it is commonly used in clinics. Compared to other methods, it keeps BC early and accurate. The proposed work aims to evaluate the performance of the Pretrained Deep-Learning Methods (PDLM) in detecting BC using the thermal images collected from the benchmark dataset. It includes the following stages: primary image processing, deep feature mining, handcrafted feature mining, feature optimization using Firefly-Algorithm (FA), classification and validation. Visual lab thermal images were used in the study. The investigational outcome of this study authenticates that the VGG16, along with the DT, provides better detection accuracy (95.5%) compared to other classifiers used in this study. To justify the significance of the implemented technique, the proposed work not only improved accuracy, but also improved precision, sensitivity, specificity, and F1-Scores. © 2023 The Authors. Energy trading in distributed microgrids represents an effective means of enhancing the utilization of renewable energy. However, the aggregation of large-scale consumption data may encounter business scalability issues and potential privacy exposure concerns, necessitating the development of novel secure and scalable frameworks for integrating consumption demands between prosumer and microgrid entities. we research focuses on providing a user-friendly transaction model for consumers and microgrid operators. Firstly, a privacy aggregation scheme for user resource requests is designed to ensure the security and decentralization of user data. In addition, the model employs a bidirectional heterogeneous resource allocation mechanism to support the optimal allocation of multiple resources, such as renewable energy, power assets, energy storage devices, and carbon credits, among different microgrids. Finally, a microgrid transaction prototype has been constructed on the Truffle development framework. In this context, smart contracts has been designed to ensure that the transactions are carried out automatically. Experimental results indicate that the scheme provides enhanced security for multi-resource trading in a cluster context relative to existing methodologies. The number of transactions increases linearly with the resource overhead, resulting in more efficient utilization of energy trading. Furthermore, the framework's scalability has been demonstrated through both temporal and spatial considerations. © 1975-2011 IEEE.

In this report, we summarize the first NTIRE challenge on light field (LF) image super-resolution (SR), which aims at super-resolving LF images under the standard bicubic degradation with a magnification factor of 4. This challenge develops a new LF dataset called NTIRE-2023 for validation and test, and provides a toolbox called BasicLFSR to facilitate model development. Compared with single image SR, the major challenge of LF image SR lies in how to exploit complementary angular information from plenty of views with varying disparities. In total, 148 participants have registered the challenge, and 11 teams have successfully submitted results with PSNR scores higher than the baseline method LF-InterNet [1]. These newly developed methods have set new state-of-the-art in LF image SR, e.g., the winning method achieves around 1 dB PSNR improvement over the existing state-of-the-art method DistgSSR [2]. We report the solutions proposed by the participants, and summarize their common trends and useful tricks. We hope this challenge can stimulate future research and inspire new ideas in LF image SR. © 2023 IEEE.

Graph Explicit Attention Network Based on Predefined Strategy

Graph attention network (GAT) has achieved great success in graph representation learning in recent years. However, the lower Physical properties of GAT in training process severely affects the application of attention mechanism in graph domain. Particularly, the attention coefficients and the multi-head mechanism are calculated or introduced in the process of model training, which obviously increases the storage complexity. In this paper, we present a graph explicit attention network (GEAT), a novel graph attention architecture that leverage predefined strategy to calculate attention coefficients, which combine global structural and node feature information. In this way, GEAT can effectively reduce the storage complexity, improve the training efficiency and alleviate the over-smoothing problem of attention scores. Experiments on benchmark datasets — Core, Citeseer and Pubmed — demonstrate that our model outperforms the state-of-the-art methods with a clear margin in challenging classifcation tasks, while being computationally efficient.

BroadCAM: Outcome-agnostic Class Activation Mapping for Small-scale Weakly Supervised Applications

Class activation mapping (CAM), a visualization technique for interpreting deep learning models, is now commonly used for weakly supervised semantic segmentation (WSSS) and object localization (WSOL). It is the weighted aggregation of the feature maps by activating the high class-relevance ones. Current CAM methods achieve it relying on the training outcomes, such as predicted scores (forward information), gradients (backward information), etc. However, when with small-scale data, unstable training may lead to less effective model outcomes and generate unreliable weights, finally resulting in incorrect activation and noisy CAM seeds. In this paper, we propose an outcome-agnostic CAM approach, called BroadCAM, for small-scale weakly supervised applications. Since broad learning system (BLS) is independent to the model learning, BroadCAM can avoid the weights being affected by the unreliable model outcomes when with small-scale data. By evaluating BroadCAM on VOC2012 (natural images) and BCSS-WSSS (medical images) for WSSS and OpenImages30k for WSOL, BroadCAM demonstrates superior performance than existing CAM methods with small-scale data (less than 5%) in different CNN architectures. It also achieves SOTA performance with large-scale training data. Extensive qualitative comparisons are conducted to demonstrate how BroadCAM activates the high class-relevance feature maps and generates reliable CAMs when with small-scale training data. © 2023, CC BY.

GANTEE: Generative Adversatial Network for Taxonomy Entering Evaluation

Taxonomy is formulated as directed acyclic concepts graphs or trees that support many downstream tasks. Many new coming concepts need to be added to an existing taxonomy. The traditional taxonomy expansion task aims only at finding the best position for new coming concepts in the existing taxonomy. However, they have two drawbacks when being applied to the real-scenarios. The previous methods suffer from low-efficiency since they waste much time when most of the new coming concepts are indeed noisy concepts. They also suffer from low-effectiveness since they collect training samples only from the existing taxonomy, which limits the ability of the model to mine more hypernym-hyponym relationships among real concepts. This paper proposes a pluggable framework called Generative Adversarial Network for Taxonomy Entering Evaluation (GANTEE) to alleviate these drawbacks. A generative adversarial network is designed in this framework by discriminative models to alleviate the first drawback and the generative model to alleviate the second drawback. Two discriminators are used in GANTEE to provide long-term and short-term rewards, respectively. Moreover, to further improve the efficiency, pre-trained language models are used to retrieve the representation of the concepts quickly. The experiments on three real-world large-scale datasets with two different languages show that GANTEE improves the performance of the existing taxonomy expansion methods in both effectiveness and efficiency. © 2023, CC BY.

Semi-autoregressive transformer for image captioning

Current state-of-the-art image captioning models adopt autoregressive decoders, i.e. they generate each word by conditioning on previously generated words, which leads to heavy latency during inference. To tackle this issue, non-autoregressive image captioning models have recently been proposed to significantly accelerate the speed of inference by generating all words in parallel. However, these non-autoregressive models inevitably suffer from large generation quality degradation since they remove words dependence excessively. To make a better trade-off between speed and quality, we introduce a semi-autoregressive model for image captioning (dubbed as SATIC), which keeps the autoregressive property in global but generates words parallelly in local. Based on Transformer, there are only a few modifications needed to implement SATIC. Experimental results on the MSCOCO image captioning benchmark show that SATIC can achieve a good trade-off without bells and whistles. Code is available at https://***/YuanEZhou/satic. Network softwarization is a breakthrough in designing modern networks and providing numerous new network operations and services. This change is exemplified by Software Defined Networks (SDN) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV). As a result, the combination of SDN and NFV (SDN/NFV) frameworks and individual SDN and NFV frameworks have gained substantial traction in network security over the past decade, significantly supporting on-demand protection measures. However, the inherent security shortcomings of SDN, NFV, and SDN/NFV frameworks provide the fundamental issue in implementing security procedures via network softwarization. To solve this issue, we present a Software-Defined Perimeter (SDP)-powered Zero-Trust Architecture (ZTA) to improve security in the SDN/NFV-enabled campus network holistically. In addition to this, we also propose a threat model and quantitatively assess the suggested approach's performance and security. Furthermore, we highlight potential zero-trust network security function implementations in SDN/NFV-enabled infrastructure to increase protection for endpoint devices, network resources, and flows for detecting threats and responding effectively with minimal latency and overhead. © 2023, The Authors.
