In this paper, we focus on the need for ideal theory analytical solution of mechanical deformation mechanism for T-joints. Through removing unnecessary constraints, stress equivalence system of T-joints can be established by force method. Solution equations of unknown nodal forces and the total vertical displacement can also be obtained, and this result can be used to evaluate strength of FRC T-joints.

A shear deformation theory for bending and buckling of undersea sandwich pipes

In this paper, a first order shear deformation theory is proposed for cylindrical sandwich pipes subjected to undersea water pressure. The new model examines the change of the circumferential radius due to the radial deflection of the cylindrical sandwich shell and its effect on the bending moments. Differential equations of equilibrium for the non-shallow cylindrical sandwich shell are derived and are expressed in terms of the components of displacement and the rotation angles of the middle planes of the face sheets with respect to the neutral surface. The proposed theory is applied to investigate the buckling of a thermal insulating sandwich pipe laid on the seabed with fully constraint ends. Numerical analyses are conducted by developing MATlab program to obtain the buckling pressures as well as the corresponding half wave numbers in circumferential direction for cylindrical sandwich pipes for different slenderness ratio, radius-to-thickness ratio and core-to-facesheet thickness ratio. The efficiency and accuracy of the presented theory is confirmed by comparing the analytical solutions with finite element results from ABAQUS, both showing a good agreement with each other. In order to effectively solve condensation and icing problems of radiosonde in low-temperature environment at high altitude, humidity sensor heated automatic alternately to remove pollution and improve the measurement accuracy. Heat experiments obtained the curve of rising temperature and responsible time on heated twin humidity sensor in normal temperature and pressure, by expanded responsible curve to obtain heated model of twin heated humidity sensor and by the analysis of heating model, use DMC and PID control for heating respectively. Simulation results show that the DMC control meets the practical requirements of measure at high altitude.

Based on firefly algorithm (FA), a structural damage detection (SDD) and moving force identification (MFI) method is proposed in this paper. The basic principle of FA is introduced, some key parameters, such as light intensity, attractiveness, and rules of attraction are defined. The moving forcesinduced responses of damage structures are defined as a function of both damage factors and moving forces. By minimizing the difference between the real and calculated responses with given damage factors and moving forces, the identified problem is transformed into a constrained optimization problem and then it can be hopefully solved by the FA. In order to assess the accuracy and the feasibility of the proposed method, a three-span continuous beam subjected to moving forces is taken as an example for numerical simulations. The illustrated results show that the method can simultaneously identify the structural damages and moving forces with a good accuracy and better robustness to noise. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2015.

A hybrid particle swarm optimization (PSO) combined with an improved Nelder-Mead algorithm (NMA) is proposed and introduced into the field of structural damage detection (SDD). The improved NMA chooses parts of subplanes of the n-simplex for optimization, a two-step method uses modal strain energy based index (MSEBI) to locate damage firstly, and both of them can reduce the computational cost of the basic PSO-Nelder-Mead (PSO-NM). An index of solution assurance criteria (SAC) is defined to describe the correlation between the identified and actual damage of structures. Numerical simulations on a 2-storey frame model is adopted to assess the performance of the proposed hybrid method. The illustrated results show that the improved PSONM can provide a reliable tool for accurate SDD in both single and multiple damage cases. Meanwhile, the improved PSO-NM algorithm has a good robustness to noises contaminated in mode shapes. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2015.

Fracturing is one of the key stimulation treatment techniques with wide application prospect for oil-gas well and is a kind of main form of natural gas exploitation currently, which is especially important for development of shale gas. However, the noise generated in the process of fracturing operation may impact the site operators and residents in the periphery. The typical fracturing operation process is selected in this paper to implement the actual measurement of noise and record such relevant parameters as operation condition and ambient environment. Based on the computation method of outdoor acoustic transmission attenuation, Cadna/A ambient noise simulation software is utilized to establish the acoustic environment simulation simplification model for certain oil well fracturing operation, implement the simulation study for noise impact distribution condition in the process of fracturing operation construction and perform the contrastive analysis for actually-measured value on the site. The result shows that the site operator's contact noise value is higher than the occupational exposure limit in National Occupational Sanitary Standard GBZ 2.2-2007 Occupational Exposure Limit for Harmful Factors in Workplace and the noise produced during operation in the daytime doesn't meet the emission limit in National Standard GB 12348-2008 Emission Standard for Ambient Noise at the Boundary of Industrial Enterprise. Therefore, in combination with the actual fracturing operation, the reasonable noise prevention and control measures are proposed. The study result of this paper has certain reference value for prediction and assessment of fracturing operation noise. © 2016 IEEE.

A novel two-step intelligent algorithm is proposed for structural damage detection (SDD) by combining particle swarm optimization and Nelder-Mead (PSO-NM) algorithm, in which two steps are deployed for exploring a better balance between computational efficiency and accuracy. In the first step, a modal strain energy based index (MSEBI) is defined and used to precisely locate damages of structures. In the second step, structural damage extent is determined by PSO-NM algorithm. Some beam-like structures are adopted to assess its applicability. A parametric study and the effect of measurement noise on the method are also considered. The illustrated numerical simulation results show that the novel method can not only locate structural damage but also identify damage extent of beam-like structures with a good robustness to noises.

The covariance of covariance (CoC) matrix is formed from the auto/cross-correlation function of acceleration responses of a structure under white noise ambient excitation. The components are function of the modal parameters of the structure and contain more information on the vibration modes of the structure compared to the general existing methods for extracting the modal parameters. This paper makes use of the CoC matrix and a new pattern match criterion for long-term health monitoring, damage localization and quantification of a five-bay three-dimensional frame structure. A large amount of measured data from an in-service suspension bridge is also analyzed. Only the acceleration responses are required to compute the covariance of covariance matrix. The components of the matrix are analyzed and the effects of the traffic flow and environmental temperature are studied. Finally, a strategy to identify the abnormal state of the bridge is presented based on the properties of the CoC components of the bridge. The CoC matrix is shown suitable for analyzing huge amount of measured data for the output-only structural damage detection without need of an analytical model.

Based on neural network material-modeling technologies, a new paradigm, called multi-output support vector regression, is developed to model complex stress/strain behavior of materials. The constitutive information generally implicitly contained in the results of experiments, i.e., the relationships between stresses and strains, can be captured by training a support vector regression model within a unified architecture from experimental data. This model, inheriting the merits of the neural network based models, can be employed to model the behavior of modern, complex materials such as composites. Moreover, the architectures of the support vector regression built in this research can be more easily determined than that of the neural network. Therefore, the proposed constitutive models can be more conveniently applied to finite element analysis and other application fields. As an illustration, the behaviors of concrete in the state of plane stress under monotonic biaxial loading and compressive uniaxial cycle loading are modeled with the multi-output and single-output support regression respectively. The excellent results show that the support vector regression provides another effective approach for material modeling. (C) 2015 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

Shearing characteristics of slip zone soils and strain localization analysis of a landslide

Based on the Mohr-Coulomb failure criterion, a gradient-dependent plastic model that considers the strain-softening behavior is presented in this study. Both triaxial shear tests on conventional specimen and precut-specimen, which were obtained from an ancient landslide, are performed to plot the post-peak stress-strain entire-process curves. According to the test results of the soil strength, which reduces from peak to residual strength, the Mohr-Coulomb criterion that considers strain-softening under gradient plastic theory is deduced, where strength reduction depends on the hardening parameter and the Laplacian thereof. The validity of the model is evaluated by the simulation of the results of triaxial shear test, and the computed and measured curves are consistent and independent of the adopted mesh. Finally, a progressive failure of the ancient landslide, which was triggered by slide of the toe, is simulated using this model, and the effects of the strain-softening process on the landslide stability are discussed.
