A new algorithm for nonlinear damage detection is proposed based on a model of autoregressive moving average with generalized autoregressive conditional heteroscedasticity (ARMA/GARCH) in this paper. First, the reference ARMA model is constructed with the acceleration responses measured in reference (healthy) state. One-step-ahead error predictions are then modeled as GARCH models. Secondly, the new nonlinear damage-sensitive feature (DSF) is defined as the GARCH model conditional standard deviation of ARMA model residual error in the reference and unknown states, respectively. The performance of the presented algorithm is evaluated and verified by the experimental data of a three-story building structure provided by Los Alamos National laboratory (LANL) USA. Finally, the new algorithm is compared with the traditional methods based on the standard deviation ratio of the residual error of ARMA model. The illustrated results show that the proposed method can effectively estimate the extent of nonlinear damage with a higher accuracy, less computational cost and more robustness against operational and environmental variety. This makes the proposed algorithm applicable for structural health monitoring in situ.

A perturbation procedure, in which the elliptic perturbation method and the hyperbolic perturbation method are applied, is presented for predicting heteroclinic connection of limit cycle or self-excited ocsillator. The limit cycle can be analytically constructed first by the elliptic perturbation method after Hopf bifurcation, in which the amplitude of limit cycle can be controlled by the modulus of elliptic functions. The heteroclinic trajectories, which are formed by the heteroclinic connection of limit cycle, can also be constructed by similar perturbation procedure but adopting the hyperbolic functions instead of elliptic functions. And the criterion of heteroclinic connection is given in the perturbation procedure. A typical self-excited oscillator is studied in detail to assess the present method.

Woven textile sandwich composite (WTSC) is a light-weight structural material. The manufacturing method of WTSC was introduced in the paper. To reveal the quasi-static and the dynamic crushing behavior of WTSC, out-of-plane compression tests were carried out. Low-velocity impact experiments were carried out to investigate the anti-crush ability of WTSC. The results of the quasi-static and dynamic compression tests show that the woven textile sandwich material has good energy absorption ability. From the difference of the peak loads, it is concluded that the woven textiles have strain rate sensitivity. The intact woven textile sandwich panel and the destroyed one have different anti-crush abilities. Different methods are used to enhance the anti-penetrating of the intact woven textile sandwich panels, for example, increasing the content of the glass fibers, enlarging the diameter of the glass fibers and enlarging the height of front faces and the whole panel. From the experiments, it is concluded that WTSC has light weight, great specific strength and good energy absorption ability. WTSC is a promising light-weight structural material for vehicle bodies.

Carbonate reservoirs have a significant proportion of the known petroleum reserves, with its characteristics of pores and fractures development. A series of laboratory testing have been performed. Using high pressure water jet cutting the artificial crack (different angles and different lengths for dolostone & limestone), in order to simulate the natural fractures. We have measured P-wave velocity and S-wave velocity on carbonate rock for original specimens and artificial crack specimens. Results from laboratory research are as follows: 1) as the fractures exist, P-wave velocity and S-wave velocity decreased, the fracture has more influence on S-wave velocity than P-wave velocity;2) under uniaxial compression, the curves of axial strain and the compression velocity can be divided into three stages: 3) the fracture has an important influence on mechanical parameters of carbonate rock. Increasing fracture angle and length will result in decreasing the strength parameters under uniaxial compression;4) under condition of confining pressure, P-wave velocity increases with the increasing of confining pressure. The growth rate of dolostone's P-wave velocity is larger than limestone. The research results can be used for better analysis the mechanical and acoustic wave characteristics of carbonate rock in deep drilling engineering and provide technology parameters for exploration in carbonate reservoirs. The quasi-Green's function method is used to solve the free vibration problem of clamped thin plates on the Winkler foundation. Quasi-Green's function is established by the fundamental solution and the boundary equation of the problem. The function satisfies the homogeneous boundary condition of tile problem. The mode-shape differential equation of the free vibration problem of clamped thin plates on the Winkler foundation is reduced to the Fredholm integral equation of the second kind by Green's formula. The irregularity of the kernel of the integral equation is overcome by choosing a suitable form of the normalized boundary equation. The numerical results show the high accuracy of the proposed method.
