With the rise and development of cloud computing, more and more companies try to outsource computing and storage to cloud in order to save storage and computing cost. Due to the rich information contained in images, the explosion of images is booming the image outsourcing. However, images may contain a lot of sensitive information and cloud servers are always not trusted. Directly outsourcing may lead to data breaches and incur privacy and security concerns. This has partly led to renewed interest in privacy-preserving encrypted image retrieval. However, there are still many challenges, such as low search accuracy and inefficiency due to the hundreds of high dimensional features extracted from a single image and the large scale of images. To address these challenges, in this paper, we propose an efficient, scalable and privacy-preserving image retrieval scheme via ball tree. First, the pre-trained Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) model is employed to extract image feature vectors to improve search accuracy. Next, an encrypted ball tree is constructed by using Learning With Errors(LWE)-based secure k-Nearest Neighbor (kNN) algorithm. Finally, we conduct comprehensive experiments on real-world datasets and give a brief security analysis. The results show that our scheme is practical in terms of security, accuracy, and efficiency.

Modeling and Performance Analysis of IoT-Over-LEO Satellite Systems Under Realistic Operational Constraints: A Stochastic Geometry Approach

The growing demand for reliable and extensive connectivity has made low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites aided Internet of Things (IoT) systems a critical area of research. However, current theoretical studies on IoT-over-LEO satellite systems often rely on unrealistic assumptions, such as infinite terrestrial areas and omnidirectional satellite coverage, leaving significant gaps in theoretical analysis for more realistic operational constraints. These constraints involve finite terrestrial area, limited satellite coverage, Earth curvature effect, integral uplink and downlink analysis, and link-dependent interference. To address these gaps, this paper proposes a novel stochastic geometry based model to rigorously analyze the performance of IoT-over-LEO satellite systems. By adopting a binomial point process (BPP) instead of the conventional Poisson point process (PPP), our model accurately characterizes the geographical distribution of a fixed number of IoT devices in a finite terrestrial region. This modeling framework enables the derivation of distance distribution functions for both the links from the terrestrial IoT devices to the satellites (T-S) and from the satellites to the Earth station (S-ES), while also accounting for limited satellite coverage and Earth curvature effects. To realistically represent channel conditions, the Nakagami fading model is employed for the T-S links to characterize diverse small-scale fading environments, while the shadowed-Rician fading model is used for the S-ES links to capture the combined effects of shadowing and dominant line-of-sight paths. Furthermore, the analysis incorporates uplink and downlink interference, ensuring a comprehensive evaluation of system performance. The accuracy and effectiveness of our theoretical framework are validated through extensive Monte Carlo simulations. The integration of video information for the purpose of detecting students’ behavior in the classroom, with the aim of enhancing teaching efficiency and maintaining a stable classroom environment, offers significant assistance. However, existing models usually struggle to achieve good accuracy due to the lack of datasets, dense targets, interclass occlusion, and other issues. To address these difficulties, the CD-YOLO classroom behavior detection algorithm is proposed in this paper. And the classroom behavior dataset (DSL-Dataset) is created. We propose a loss function named VAIoU, which can be combined with vector ratio to filter the prediction box. To further improve the detection accuracy of occluded targets, we propose an attention module CM module with command feature fusion. Moreover, in this paper, we improve the convolutional kernel to design a lightweight convolutional kernel FFconv. Experimental results on DSL-Dataset show that CD-YOLO outperforms existing one-stage detection models in terms of detection accuracy.

The energy consumption of virtualized data centers has grown very fast in last several years. Because a large number of hosts are running in an idle state, virtualized data centers waste a large amount of electric energy. To save more energy for virtualized data centers, an energy-saving mechanism is proposed based on switching operating mode of physical servers and reserving virtual machines (VMs). The main idea is that when the amount of idle VMs reaches twice of a specified threshold, half of these idle VMs are reserved to process the new task that is about to arrive, and the physical server which hosts the other half of the idle VMs is switched to the sleep mode. From the perspective of task arrival rate and sleep parameters, we use two-dimensional Markov processes to analyze the proposed energy-saving mechanisms. By using matrix geometry solutions, we theoretically estimate energy consumption and response performance. According to the numerical experiments, the proposed energy-saving mechanism obviously cut down electric energy consumption and ensures response performance. Finally, the specified threshold for the amount of VMs is optimized by building a cost function. © 2020 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Cooperative satellite-aerial-terrestrial networks (CSATNs), where unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are utilized as nomadic aerial relays (A), are highly valuable for many important applications, such as post-disaster urban reconstruction. In this scenario, direct communication between terrestrial terminals (T) and satellites (S) is often unavailable due to poor propagation conditions for satellite signals, and users tend to congregate in regions of finite size. There is a current dearth in the open literature regarding the uplink performance analysis of CSATN operating under the above constraints, and the few contributions on the uplink model terrestrial terminals by a Poisson point process (PPP) relying on the unrealistic assumption of an infinite area. This paper aims to fill the above research gap. First, we propose a stochastic geometry based innovative model to characterize the impact of the finite-size distribution region of terrestrial terminals in the CSATN by jointly using a binomial point process (BPP) and a type-II Matérn hard-core point process (MHCPP). Then, we analyze the relationship between the spatial distribution of the coverage areas of aerial nodes and the finite-size distribution region of terrestrial terminals, thereby deriving the distance distribution of the T-A links. Furthermore, we consider the stochastic nature of the spatial distributions of terrestrial terminals and UAVs, and conduct a thorough analysis of the coverage probability and average ergodic rate of the T-A links under Nakagami fading and the A-S links under shadowed-Rician fading. Finally, the accuracy of our theoretical derivations are confirmed by Monte Carlo simulations. Our research offers fundamental insights into the system-level performance optimization for the realistic CSATNs involving nomadic aerial relays and terrestrial terminals confined in a finite-size region. The spread of COVID-19 has brought great disaster to the world, and automatic segmentation of the infected region can help doctors make a quick diagnosis and reduce workload. However, automatic segmentation of infected regions in computed tomography (CT) images still faces many challenges. The most central problem at the moment is that when capturing low-frequency signals and high-frequency signals, the use of Transformer blocks for capturing low-frequency signals may deteriorate the high-frequency signals (local texture information) to some extent. For this reason, in this paper, we propose a new network for automatic segmentation of COVID-19 lung infections from CT images, called NextSeg. NextSeg follows an encoder-decoder architecture, where the encoder part uses NCB and NTB convolutional attention modules to extract better features while reducing the deterioration of texture profile information. The decoder part uses an attention fusion module to learn the weight relationship between features and retain more important feature information. In addition to the difficulty of extracting the boundary details of the COVID-19 infected region as well as the loss of details the deeper the network is, we designed a new hybrid strategy. Traditional and state-of-the-art approaches to the COVID-19 segmentation domain are compared. Extensive experiments show that our proposed framework outperforms existing competitors in both qualitative and quantitative results.

Image forgery detection and localization (IFDL) is of vital importance as forged images can spread misinformation that poses potential threats to our daily lives. However, previous methods still struggled to effectively handle forged images processed with diverse forgery operations in real-world scenarios. In this paper, we propose a novel Reinforced Multi-teacher Knowledge Distillation (Re-MTKD) framework for the IFDL task, structured around an encoder-decoder ConvNeXt-UperNet along with Edge-Aware Module, named Cue-Net. First, three Cue-Net models are separately trained for the three main types of image forgeries, i.e., copy-move, splicing, and inpainting, which then serve as the multi-teacher models to train the target student model with Cue-Net through self-knowledge distillation. A Reinforced Dynamic Teacher Selection (Re-DTS) strategy is developed to dynamically assign weights to the involved teacher models, which facilitates specific knowledge transfer and enables the student model to effectively learn both the common and specific natures of diverse tampering traces. Extensive experiments demonstrate that, compared with other state-of-the-art methods, the proposed method achieves superior performance on several recently emerged datasets comprised of various kinds of image forgeries. © 2025, Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (***). Sparse LU factorization is a critical kernel in scientific computing and engineering applications. A better nonzero pattern of sparse matrixes can accelerate LU factorization by reordering. Traditionally it’s difficult to predict which non-zero pattern is optimal for a sparse matrix. In this paper, we proposed a graph convolutional neural network (GCN) for adaptively selecting the optimal reordering algorithm from five candidate reordering algorithms in the Matrix preprocessing step, referred to as SPM-GCN. After using our SPM-GCN, the average numerical factorization time outperformed the other five algorithms, and the average numerical factorization time was reduced by 17.3% compared with the default method of swSuperLU.

Delving into the Estimation Shift of Batch Normalization in a Network

Batch normalization (BN) is a milestone technique in deep learning. It normalizes the activation using mini-batch statistics during training but the estimated population statistics during inference. This paper focuses on investigating the estimation of population statistics. We define the estimation shift magnitude of BN to quantitatively measure the difference between its estimated population statistics and expected ones. Our primary observation is that the estimation shift can be accumulated due to the stack of BN in a network, which has detriment effects for the test performance. We further find a batch-free normalization (BFN) can block such an accumulation of estimation shift. These observations motivate our design of XBNBlock that replace one BN with BFN in the bottleneck block of residual-style networks. Experiments on the ImageNet and COCO benchmarks show that XBNBlock consistently improves the performance of different architectures, including ResNet and ResNeXt, by a significant margin and seems to be more robust to distribution shift. With the rapid development of deep learning, the use of object detection algorithms for aerial insulator image defect detection has become the main way. To address the problems of low detection accuracy for small targets, weak representation ability of feature maps, insufficient extracted key information, and the shortage of aerial insulator defect datasets, this paper proposes an improved insulator defect detection method named BS-YOLOv5s based on 3-D attention mechanism and Bi-Slim-neck using YOLOv5s as the base network. Additionally, to solve the problem of the shortage of aerial insulator datasets, this paper proposes a new aerial insulator dataset Weather-Insulator (WI) containing a variety of defect scenarios. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method not only greatly improves the detection accuracy, but also maintains a high detection speed, satisfying the engineering requirements for insulator defect detection.
