Human gesture recognition has drawn much attention in the area of computer vision. However, the performance of gesture recognition is always influenced by some gesture-irrelevant factors like the background and the clothes of performers. Therefore, focusing on the regions of hand/arm is important to the gesture recognition. Meanwhile, a more adaptive architecture-searched network structure can also perform better than the block-fixed ones like ResNet since it increases the diversity of features in different stages of the network better. In this paper, we propose a regional attention with architecture-rebuilt 3D network (RAAR3DNet) for gesture recognition. We replace the fixed Inception modules with the automatically rebuilt structure through the network via Neural Architecture Search (NAS), owing to the different shape and representation ability of features in the early, middle, and late stage of the network. It enables the network to capture different levels of feature representations at different layers more adaptively. Meanwhile, we also design a stackable regional attention module called Dynamic-Static Attention (DSA), which derives a Gaussian guidance heatmap and dynamic motion map to highlight the hand/arm regions and the motion information in the spatial and temporal domains, respectively. Extensive experiments on two recent large-scale RGB-D gesture datasets validate the effectiveness of the proposed method and show it outperforms state-of-the-art methods. With the popularity of various smart devices and the application of sensor network technology, message transmission using mobile devices is becoming widespread. This paper focuses on the forwarding in mobile social network (MSN). The MSN is a special Delay Tolerant Network (DTN) consisting of mobile nodes. In MSN, nodes move and share information with each other through carried short-range wireless communication devices. Mobile nodes in the MSN typically access some building areas more frequently, such as schools, companies, or apartments, while visiting other areas, such as the roads between buildings, less frequently. The building areas that nodes frequently visit are called communities. To increase delivery ratio and reduce transmission time in MSN, this paper proposes a novel zero-knowledge multi-copy routing algorithm, Mixed Message Forwarding (MMF) which exploits and improves the metric, namely centrality. Centrality reflects the importance of a node in the network. MMF improves copy diffusion by using different directions of node movement as well. Special facilities called boundary boxes are added to the network scenario. Boundary boxes are special throw boxes. Throw boxes are relays with large storage space and fixed position. MMF is designed and evaluated, which utilizes the aforementioned boundary boxes to reduce transmission delay. The simulation results show that the MMF can improve the delivery ratio and reduce the transmission delay, compared with other algorithms. © 2019 by SCITEPRESS - Science and Technology Publications, Lda.

Weather forecasting traditionally relies on numerical weather prediction (NWP) systems that integrates global observational systems, data assimilation (DA), and forecasting models. Despite steady improvements in forecast accuracy over recent decades, further advances are increasingly constrained by high computational costs, the underutilization of vast observational datasets, and the challenges of obtaining finer resolution. These limitations, alongside the uneven distribution of observational networks, result in global disparities in forecast accuracy, leaving some regions vulnerable to extreme weather. Recent advances in machine learning present a promising alternative, providing more efficient and accurate forecasts using the same initial conditions as NWP. However, current machine learning models still depend on the initial conditions generated by NWP systems, which require extensive computational resources and expertise. Here we introduce FuXi Weather, a machine learning weather forecasting system that assimilates data from multiple satellites. Operating on a 6-hourly DA and forecast cycle, FuXi Weather generates reliable and accurate 10-day global weather forecasts at a spatial resolution of 0.25◦. FuXi Weather is the first system to achieve all-grid, all-surface, all-channel, and all-sky DA and forecasting, extending skillful forecast lead times beyond those of the European Centre for Medium-range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) high-resolution forecasts (HRES) while using significantly fewer observations. FuXi Weather consistently outperforms ECMWF HRES in observation-sparse regions, such as central Africa, demonstrating its potential to improve forecasts where observational infrastructure is limited. © 2024, CC BY.

Text multi-label classification technology can accurately and quickly classify text information into related categories or topics, and help people quickly locate the required content in massive information resources, which is of great significance in application. As the traditional classification algorithm is faced with the problems of low classification accuracy due to the low correlation of data labels, unbalanced label data and few short text feature words, this paper firstly performs hierarchical pre-processing on label data to transform multi-label classification into hierarchical text multi-classification. At the same time, an improved multi-label classification algorithm Multi-label Convolutional Neural Networks (ML-CNN) is proposed. Based on the TensorFlow framework, a CNN model is designed and different training models are constructed for each level of label classification. According to the number of classification levels, the output of the upper level label is stitched to the original input tail as the next level of input. Experiments on the description information of 500,000 Chinese products with labels, show that the improved algorithm will significantly improve the classification accuracy and the accuracy of each level can reach more than 88%, which proves the feasibility and effectiveness of the algorithm. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Learning effective representations for Chinese characters presents unique challenges, primarily due to the vast number of characters and their continuous growth, which requires models to handle an expanding category space. Additionally, the inherent sparsity of character usage complicates the generalization of learned representations. Prior research has explored radical-based sequences to overcome these issues, achieving progress in recognizing unseen characters. However, these approaches fail to fully exploit the inherent tree structure of such sequences. To address these limitations and leverage established data properties, we propose Formation Tree-CLIP (FT-CLIP). This model utilizes formation trees to represent characters and incorporates a dedicated tree encoder, significantly improving performance in both seen and unseen character recognition tasks. We further introduce masking for to both character images and tree nodes, enabling efficient and effective training. This approach accelerates training significantly (by a factor of 2 or more) while enhancing accuracy. Extensive experiments show that processing characters through formation trees aligns better with their inherent properties than direct sequential methods, significantly enhancing the generality and usability of the representations. © 2024, The Authors. Congestion Relief in Downlink OFDMA Cellular System Using Inter-Cell Relay

This paper proposes the concept of inter-cell relay for downlink orthogonal frequency division multiple access(OFDMA) cellular systems, which uses multi-hop to relay calls from overloaded cells to light-load neighboring cells. It is shown that when using inter-cell relay, the number of calls in the congestion cell can be significantly increased. The congestion cell is divided into two parts. One is called non-relay area(NRA), in which a call directly communicates with the base station(BS) of a congested cell. The other is called relay area(RA), in which a call communicates with the BS of a neighboring cell through a relay station(RS). The two parts have different user-call densities. By adjusting the densities of two parts, we will maximize the number of supported calls inside a congested cell. The results show the benefits gained from inter-cell relay in congestion relief, which can reduce cell congestion by fully utilizing the available resources in the neighboring cells.

DB-SBR: A dual-backbone model for student behavior recognition

Aiming at the challenge of student behavior recognition in such complex scenarios as smart classroom, we propose a Dual-Backbone Model for Student Behavior Recognition (DB-SBR). First, we innovatively propose a dual-backbone feature extraction scheme for the same input, which effectively improves the robustness and feature extraction capability of the model. Among them, we design the CSP Bottleneck with Partial Convolution (CSPC) module for the construction and optimization of the CSPC ConvNet backbone network, and construct the Simplified Swin Transformer (SST) backbone network through structural optimization, which makes the model achieve a better balance between efficiency and accuracy. In addition, we propose an Adaptive Weighted Attention Feature Fusion (AAFusion) module, which realizes more effective feature integration and further promotes the comprehensive performance of the model. Experimental results on the SCB-dataset3 demonstrate that DB-SBR outperforms existing methods, achieving F1-score, [email protected] , and [email protected] :0.95 of 0.687, 0.729, and 0.544, respectively, with improvements of 2.5 %, 3.7 %, and 4.2 % over the baseline. DB-SBR provides a new solution for high-quality student behavior recognition in smart classrooms.

Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) image classification is a key technique and research focus in the application of remote sensing. This paper proposes a new classification method of SAR image based on Object-based Gaussian-Markov Random Field model with Region Coefficients (OGMRF-RC), the new method use Fuzzy Probability (FP) represents the region's category probability, FP is obtained by regional posterior probability and edge information of neighborhood. Use FP to replace the unique class label of the region, which avoids the parameters estimation inaccurate of the feature field caused by the unique initial class label. And the parameter calculation method of feature field takes into account the feature information of all regions in the image. In this paper, we take the area around Baliwan in Kaifeng as study area, Sentinel-1 is used as the remote sensing data sources. FCM, K-means, classic MRF and OGMRF-RC are used as contrast methods, the experimental result demonstrates the accuracy of our method is better than these methods. © 2020 Institution of Engineering and Technology. robot arms have been widely used in industry. The absolute positioning error of robots without calibration can reach several millimeters, which cannot meet the application requirements of accurate operation. Therefore, it is almost a mandatory procedure for industrial robots to take on-site calibration before being used. Generally, most researchers on robot calibration have mechanical and instrumentation background as the collection of calibration data is tedious and it is usually difficult to access to industrial robots for researchers in other fields. This research explores the calibration problem from a machine learning perspective and provides the first open-access dataset called "robotCali" in this area so that machine learning scientists can step into this field and verify their algorithms on this problem. In the meanwhile, a new calibration method based on the Levenberg-Marquardt (LM) algorithm and extended Kalman filter (EKF) algorithm is proposed, which can significantly improve the absolute positioning accuracy of the robot after calibration. Firstly, the error model of robot is established, and kinematic parameters are initially identified by LM algorithm. Then the EKF algorithm is used to further calibrate these parameters, which has been verified the effectiveness of the proposed method by experimental results. Lastly, the future research work is discussed.

As increasingly traditional applications migrate to the cloud, load balancing without sacrificing the performances of cloud-based applications is a highly challenging problem in cloud computing. Existing solutions focusing on online task scheduling have the inefficient issue, due to the highly dynamic nature of cloud workloads and the virtual machines (VMs) with heterogeneous hardware configurations. To address this issue, dependent on the strong perception and decision-making ability of deep reinforcement learning (DRL) in automatic control problems, we propose a deep reinforcement learning based task scheduling method, which can dynamic assign submitted tasks to different VMs. In details, we formulate the task scheduling as a dynamical optimal problem with constraints, and then adopt the deep deterministic policy gradients (DDPG) network to find the optimal task assignment solution with meeting the Service Level Agreements (SLAs) requirements. It makes the optimal scheduling decision only dependent on learning directly from its experience without any prior knowledge. The experimental results using the actual Alibaba cloud workload tracings show that compared with other existing solutions, our proposed task scheduling method can effectively reduce the average response time of tasks with guaranteeing the load balancing among VMs, when facing of dynamical workloads. © 2019 IEEE.
