Collaborative Metric Learning (CML) has recently emerged as a popular method in recommendation systems (RS), closing the gap between metric learning and Collaborative Filtering. Following the convention of RS, existing methods exploit unique user representation in their model design. This paper focuses on a challenging scenario where a user has multiple categories of interests. Under this setting, we argue that the unique user representation might induce preference bias, especially when the item category distribution is imbalanced. To address this issue, we propose a novel method called Diversity-Promoting Collaborative Metric Learning (DPCML), with the hope of considering the commonly ignored minority interest of the user. The key idea behind DPCML is to include a multiple set of representations for each user in the system. Based on this embedding paradigm, user preference toward an item is aggregated from different embeddings by taking the minimum item-user distance among the user embedding set. Furthermore, we observe that the diversity of the embeddings for the same user also plays an essential role in the model. To this end, we propose a diversity control regularization term to accommodate the multi-vector representation strategy better. Theoretically, we show that DPCML could generalize well to unseen test data by tackling the challenge of the annoying operation that comes from the minimum value. AdaXpert: Adapting neural architecture for growing data

In real-world applications, data often come in a growing manner, where the data volume and the number of classes may increase dynamically. This will bring a critical challenge for learning: given the increasing data volume or the number of classes, one has to instantaneously adjust the neural model capacity to obtain promising performance. Existing methods either ignore the growing nature of data or seek to independently search an optimal architecture for a given dataset, and thus are incapable of promptly adjusting the architectures for the changed data. To address this, we present a neural architecture adaptation method, namely Adaptation eXpert (AdaXpert), to efficiently adjust previous architectures on the growing data. Specifically, we introduce an architecture adjuster to generate a suitable architecture for each data snapshot, based on the previous architecture and the different extent between current and previous data distributions. Furthermore, we propose an adaptation condition to determine the necessity of adjustment, thereby avoiding unnecessary and time-consuming adjustments. Extensive experiments on two growth scenarios (increasing data volume and number of classes) demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. Copyright © 2021, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Most existing works on optimal filtering of linear time-invariant (LTI) stochastic systems with arbitrary unknown inputs assume perfect knowledge of the covariances of the noises in the filter design. This is impractical and raises the question of whether and under what conditions one can identify the process and measurement noise covariances (denoted as Q and R, respectively) of systems with unknown inputs. This paper considers the identifiability of Q/R using the correlation-based measurement difference approach. More specifically, we establish (i) necessary conditions under which Q and R can be uniquely jointly identified;(ii) necessary and sufficient conditions under which Q can be uniquely identified, when R is known;(iii) necessary conditions under which R can be uniquely identified, when Q is known. It will also be shown that for achieving the results mentioned above, the measurement difference approach requires some decoupling conditions for constructing a stationary time series, which are proved to be sufficient for the well-known strong detectability requirements established by Hautus. © 2022, CC BY.

Sample hardness based gradient loss for long-tailed cervical cell detection

Due to the difficulty of cancer samples collection and annotation, cervical cancer datasets usually exhibit a long-tailed data distribution. When training a detector to detect the cancer cells in a WSI (Whole Slice Image) image captured from the TCT (Thinprep Cytology Test) specimen, head categories (e.g. normal cells and inflammatory cells) typically have a much larger number of samples than tail categories (e.g. cancer cells). Most existing state-of-the-art long-tailed learning methods in object detection focus on category distribution statistics to solve the problem in the long-tailed scenario, without considering the "hardness" of each sample. To address this problem, in this work we propose a Grad-Libra Loss that leverages the gradients to dynamically calibrate the degree of hardness of each sample for different categories, and re-balance the gradients of positive and negative samples. Our loss can thus help the detector to put more emphasis on those hard samples in both head and tail categories. Extensive experiments on a long-tailed TCT WSI image dataset show that the mainstream detectors, e.g. RepPoints, FCOS, ATSS, YOLOF, etc. trained using our proposed Gradient-Libra Loss, achieved much higher (7.8%) mAP than that trained using cross-entropy classification loss. In order to better atomize the water-based paint, a new pneumatic atomizer with V-shaped slits is proposed in this paper. The atomizing air hole is improved by changing its configuration from the ordinary annular structure to a V-shaped groove structure. A 3D model of this atomizer is established for numerical simulation, where the turbulent transport is modeled using the realizable k- Ε model. By means of computational fluid dynamics (CFD), the velocity and pressure distributions in the interference spray flow field are numerically investigated by varying the shaping air pressure when different numbers of V-shaped slits are employed. The results show that the higher the shaping air pressure is, the more even the airflow is distributed on the target plate. With increasing the number of the slits, the local high-speed airflow near the nozzle in the spray flow field will be enhanced, which is conducive to atomizing water-based paint. © 2021, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

In large-scale SDN network, a single centralized controller can not meet the demand, and multiple controllers are needed to deal with the problem, which leads to the problem of multi control balanced deployment. In this paper, the topology of SDN switches and links is known. The main research contents are as follows: The mathematical model of SDN multi controller deployment is established, and the appropriate network topology is selected and the multi controller deployment problem is solved. In the research, the number of controllers needed in the network and the switches managed by each controller is determined by the algorithm results, and the mapping relationship between controllers and switches is established. By analyzing the deployment results of the same network topology under different algorithms, the influence of different clustering algorithms on the experimental results is obtained. This study presents a computational methodology for developing a multi-ball system that automatically aligns during assembly processes. The contributions of this work are threefold: Firstly, a comprehensive error analysis of the multi-ball system is performed. It is found that temperature and pressure-induced deformations should not be ignored when micrometer-level precision is required. Secondly, a novel process flow for designing the multi-ball pitch artifact is introduced, which enables optimization decision-making. Lastly, a series of experiments are conducted on standard bearing balls (grade G20). The resulting artifact meets the Class 1 standards. It is reasonable to assume that, by using balls of grade G3 precision, the multi-ball artifact can achieve accuracy at the sub-micrometer level. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Collaborative filtering recommendation algorithm is the most important recommended application methods at present. The selection of users (items) similarity measurement methods in this method may affect the final recommendation effect. Probability matrix factorization algorithm is one of the more and more methods applied in collaborative filtering algorithms. This paper proposes to convert the users (items) consumption network into a bipartite graph and use belief propagation algorithm to obtain fuzzy nearest neighbor set, improving users (items) similarity measure and incorporating it into probability matrix factorization. Experimental tests on the data set showed that the proposed method performance was good.

Both the power and the information are transmitted wirelessly, respectively, in downlink and uplink traffics for spatial-division multiple access networks. The receiver in uplink is equipped with multiple antennas to support the multiple access *** the first frequency band, the transmitter sends power wirelessly to multiple users at the same time. In the second frequency band, all the users utilize the received power, respectively, to send information wirelessly to the receiver (the same node in the downlink). The objective is to achieve the best energy efficiency over the whole networks while assuring the required quality of service in terms of the minimum throughput over all the unlink traffics. The unknown parameter is the transmit power in downlink. The difficulty is to deal with the hard derivations over the closed-form solution to the complicated problem. The proposed method successfully obtains the optimal solution in terms of the closed form. Numerical simulations verify the good performance achieved by our proposed method. © 2019, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.
