Sexual reproduction is a special feature of some animals, but their ecological dynamics are rarely studied mathematically. Here we present a theoretical framework via delay differential equations to fill the knowledge gap. This new model takes into account the sex difference and age stage structure of the population. Using eigenvalue analysis, comparison method and iterative principle, we first derive the conditions which guarantee the global stability of the boundary and positive equilibria, and then propose a pest management strategy by controlling the adult female subpopulation. We finally clarify the effects of sex and stage structure on the dynamics by numerical analysis. The results indicated that (1) the dynamic of females and juvenile stage play an important role in the population duration process; (2) the length of juvenile stage can induce periodic fluctuation of the model solutions; and (3) reducing the adult females can effectively control the whole population.

Lossless and Universal 3D Object Encryption with Differentiated Visual Effects upon Decryption: A Novel Paradigm

A recently proposed 3D object encryption scheme enables hierarchical decryption, allowing a single encryption to display varied visual effects upon decryption. This has potential applications in complex scenarios where 3D objects require access at different security levels. However, it has two main issues: lossless decryption is not possible due to precision loss from the IEEE 754 standard, and it is customized for a specific AES algorithm, limiting support for others. Motivated by this, a novel paradigm for 3D object encryption with differentiated visual effects upon decryption is proposed. In this paradigm, the precision loss is preserved within the 3D encrypted object, allowing the 3D object after fully decrypting to be identical to the original, and thus it is lossless. Meanwhile, the data to be encrypted is reduced to three blocks, which are generalized bitstreams. Bitstream encryption algorithms that do not produce ciphertext expansion can be applied, and it operates independently of the other components in the paradigm, making it universal. Finally, a prototype of this paradigm is constructed, using the same encryption algorithm as in the previous scheme for comparative experiments. Two 3D object datasets are used to conduct the experiments and results demonstrate that it achieves lossless decryption and has a time advantage, while also undergoing security analysis and verification against smoothing attacks to confirm the security. © 2025 IEEE. Multi-agent Collaboration for Vehicular Task Offloading Using Federated Deep Reinforcement Learning

Mobile Edge computing (MEC) distributes resources such as computing, storage, and bandwidth to the side close to users, which can provide low-latency services to in-vehicle users, thus promising a more efficient and safer driving environment. However, due to the dynamic scale of vehicle and the variability of resource requirements, it is a significant challenge to quickly obtain effective task offloading in large-scale vehicle scenarios. The existing studies generally adopt the centralized decision-making method, with long decision-making time and high computational overhead, which cannot effectively achieve good offloading decisions in large-scale scenarios. To address these problems, we propose a Multi-agent Collaborative Method for vehicular task offloading using Federated Deep Reinforcement Learning called MCM-FDRL. First, each vehicle as an agent, independently makes offloading decisions based on local information. Next, the offloading decision model of each vehicle is obtained through federated reinforcement learning training. At runtime, an effective vehicle offloading plan can be gradually developed through multi-agent collaboration. Using two real-world datasets, experiments show that the MCM-FDRL has good adaptability and scalability. Moreover, compared to the state-of-the-art methods, the task's average response time of the MCM-FDRL is reduced by 9.75%-64.90%, respectively. © 2002-2012 IEEE.

Design of observer-based discrete repetitive-control system based on 2D model

A discrete observer-based repetitive control(RC) design method for a linear system with uncertainties was presented based on two-dimensional(2D) system theory. Firstly, a 2D discrete model was established to describe both the control behavior within a repetition period and the learning process taking place between periods. Next, by converting the designing problem of repetitive controller into one of the feedback gains of reconstructed variables, the stable condition was obtained through linear matrix inequality(LMI) and also the gain coefficient of repetitive system. Numerical simulation shows an exceptional feasibility of this proposal with remarkable robustness and tracking speed.

Echo State Networks (ESNs) are popular in Time Series Classification (TSC) due to their high-dimensional stochastic projections. However, due to the echo state at the current step is susceptible to the preceding step, the existing ESNs struggle to capture the long-term temporal dependencies. Furthermore, most of them only employ the unidirectional storage to capture the sequence information, which fails to fully consider the impact of the past and future moments simultaneously. To address these issues, we propose an advanced method called Bidirectional Skip-stored Dual-Stream Gated Attention Network (BSDSGANet) for Multivariate Time Series Classification (MTSC). Specifically, to roundly exploit the sequence information, a Bidirectional Skip-Stored Encoder (BSSE) is designed to enrich the temporal context by integrating past and future information. Then, a Dual-Stream Gated Attention Learner (DSGAL) mechanism is incroporated, which employs a Gated Recurrent Self-Attention (GRSA) module to learn the long-term dependencies and variable relationships. Meanwhile, a Multi-Scale Gated Attention (MSGA) module is developed to extract more important features from multiple scales. Extensive experiments conducted on eighteen benchmark MTSC datasets show that BSDSGANet outperforms five traditional methods and twelve deep learning models. © 2025 Elsevier B.V.

Vector Field-Guided Circumnavigation for an Unmanned Surface Vehicle With Boundary and Obstacle Constraints

This article aims to tackle the challenge of rapid target circumnavigation by unmanned surface vehicles (USVs) under boundary and obstacle constraints through leveraging an emerging computing architecture specifically tailored for unmanned systems. Owing to the underactuation of USV dynamic systems and the presence of various time-varying surface disturbances, attaining rapid and accurate position control along with maneuverability poses a significant challenge to USVs. Therefore, when an USV maneuvers around a target in a confined search area with obstacles, it is essential for the guidance law to consider collision risks and environmental disturbances. This paper proposes a modified Lyapunov vector field with heading deviation compensation to circle the target in complex search regions. The vector field is designed to increase the radial velocity of the USV and accelerate convergence towards the target circle during the pursuit phase. By combining the proposed Lyapunov vector field with a boundary vector field, the USV can swiftly avoid boundaries and dynamic obstacles and then continue circling the target. The proposed computing architecture extends the application scope of the target circumnavigation to practical water surface environments, which is validated by extensive simulations and rigorous experiments. © 2025 IEEE.

processing high-dimensional data cubes and developing high-performance classifiers are core objectives in the field of hyperspectral image classification (HSIC). Superpixel-based methods are widely used in HSIC due to their efficacy in reducing redundant information and enhancing local features. However, imprecise segmentation, especially in complex structures and textures of hyperspectral images (HSIs), may lead to inconsistencies in the regions extracted by superpixels and the boundaries between different ground objects. Such inconsistencies significantly degrade the classification performance of HSIs. Alternatively, when parameter settings are inaccurate, edge-aware feature extraction methods often introduce sharpening artifacts at the image boundaries, resulting in a decrease in classification accuracy. To effectively address these challenges, we propose a novel probabilistic fusion method for HSIC. This method consists of the following stages. First, spatial information is extracted by a multiscale superpixel segmentation method and then probabilistically optimized by the extended random walk (ERW) method. Next, semantic-aware structural features (S2Fs) are extracted along with edge information of different objects. Lastly, a probabilistic framework is proposed to fuse the class probabilities of superpixel-based spatial information and semantic-aware structural features. Experimental results on three real datasets show state-of-the-art classification performance, even with limited training sets. ©1991-2012 IEEE.

Large-scale graphs have become prevalent with the advent of the big data era. Distributed graph computing systems are commonly used for processing and analyzing large-scale graphs, with graph partitioning being a key prerequisite for their efficient computation. Graph partitioning aims to balance the load across partitions while minimizing the number of cut-edges. Moreover, it should achieve high efficiency and scalability. However, the existing popular graph partitioning algorithms do not fully take into account the internal topology of real-world graphs, which affects the final partition quality and convergence. Meanwhile, they easily fall into the local optimum due to partition load constraints. This paper introduces a Novel Optimized Balanced Graph Partitioning algorithm (NOBGP). First, we propose an initialization strategy based on label propagation of core vertices to achieve initial partitions with good locality and accelerate convergence. Second, we optimize the label propagation process to ensure balanced partitions and propose a probability-based disruption strategy to avoid the local optimum. We implement NOBGP on the distributed graph computing framework GraphX. Extensive experimental results on real-world graphs show that the proposed algorithm is scalable and performs better than the existing algorithms. We also run PageRank and Louvain applications using the graph partitioning results to demonstrate the efficiency of our algorithm. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

A Simple Single-Fed Penta-Band Omnidirectional Antenna with Independent Band Control

A novel method of designing a penta-band omnidirectional low-profile antenna with independent band control is proposed. Single-band, dual-band, tri-band, quad-band, and penta-band antennas are investigated, respectively. The proposed penta-band antenna consists of a circular patch, three concentric metal pins, and two square metal plates. The evolutionary step of the penta-band antenna is achieved by adding metal rings and a small metal plate above the big ground. Each of the four metal rings is excited at TM01 mode resonance, while the 5th mode is generated by a small loop resonance formed by the small plate, shorting pin, stub, and the outer conductor of the cable. The penta-band antenna has a small volume of π × (0.109λ1.53GHz)2 × 0.053λ1.53GHz. The corresponding impedance bandwidths (IMBWs) of the five operating bands are 4.9%, 9.4%, 9.0%, 4.8%, 5.0%. Compared with other designs, the proposed antennas exhibit more flexible bands by using a simple structure. Meanwhile, the antenna has a stable omnidirectional radiation pattern across the five bands and a compact size. © 1963-2012 IEEE.
