Bilateral Pricing for Dynamic Association in Federated Edge Learning

Devices and servers in Federated Edge Learning (FEL) are self-interested and resource-constrained, making it critical to design incentives to improve model performance. However, dynamic network conditions raise energy consumption, while data heterogeneity undermines device cooperation. Current research overlooks the interplay between system efficiency and device clustering, resulting in suboptimal updates. To address these challenges, we develop BENCH, a bilateral pricing mechanism consisting of three core rules aimed at incentivizing participation from both devices and servers. Specifically, we first design a reward allocation rule, based on the Rubinstein bargaining model, which dynamically allocates rewards. Theoretically, we derive a closed-form solution for this rule, demonstrating BENCH achieves Nash equilibrium. Secondly, we design a device partitioning rule that leverages modularity to group similar devices, facilitating personalized edge aggregation to accelerate local data adaptation. Thirdly, we design an edge matching rule that employs the Kuhn-Munkres algorithm to balance the load at edge servers, thus minimizing the congestion. Together, these three rules enable hierarchical optimization of pricing and associations, effectively mitigating the impact of dynamic costs and device heterogeneity. Extensive experiments demonstrate BENCH's effectiveness in increasing device participation by 28.81% and improving model performance by 2.66% compared to state-of-the-art baselines. © 2002-2012 IEEE.

Video object segmentation aims to extract 2D object masks by segmenting video frames into multiple objects, which is crucial in various practical applications such as medical imaging, etc.. However, traditional video object segmentation methods produce 2D masks, which are not suitable for 3D scenarios where depth information is essential, such as in robotic grasping, virtual reality, and autonomous driving, etc.. In this paper, we present a comprehensive review of 3D human mesh reconstruction (HMR) as an extension beyond 2D video object segmentation. We begin by reviewing the mainstream video object segmentation methods, then transition from 2D video object segmentation to 3D HMR. We further categorize recent HMR methods based on key characteristics that define this research field, including the type of model input and the use of statistical models. Math word problem (MWP) represents a critical research area within reading comprehension, where accurate comprehension of math problem text is crucial for generating math expressions. However, current approaches still grapple with unresolved challenges in grasping the sensitivity of math problem text and delineating distinct roles across various clause types, and enhancing numerical representation. To address these challenges, this paper proposes a Numerical Magnitude Aware Multi-Channel Hierarchical Encoding Network (NMA-MHEA) for math expression generation. Firstly, NMA-MHEA implements a multi-channel hierarchical context encoding module to learn context representations at three different channels: intra-clause channel, inter-clause channel, and context-question interaction channel. NMA-MHEA constructs hierarchical constituent-dependency graphs for different levels of sentences and employs a Hierarchical Graph Attention Neural Network (HGAT) to learn syntactic and semantic information within these graphs at the intra-clause and inter-clause channels. NMA-MHEA then refines context clauses using question information at the context-question interaction channel. Secondly, NMA-MHEA designs a number encoding module to enhance the relative magnitude information among numerical values and type information of numerical values. Experimental results on two public benchmark datasets demonstrate that NMA-MHEA outperforms other state-of-the-art models. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2024.

In this paper, we propose a highly accurate scheme for two KdV systems of the Boussinesq type under periodic boundary conditions. The proposed scheme combines the Fourier-Galerkin method for spatial discretization with Hamiltonian boundary value methods for time integration, ensuring the conservation of discrete mass and energy. By expanding the system in Fourier series, the equations are firstly transformed into Hamiltonian form, preserving the original Hamiltonian structure. Applying the Fourier-Galerkin method for semi-discretization in space, we obtain a large-scale system of Hamiltonian ordinary differential equations, which is then solved using a class of energy-conserving Runge-Kutta methods, known as Hamiltonian boundary value methods. The efficiency of this approach is assessed, and several numerical examples are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the method. © 2025 IMACS

RIS-Assisted ISAC Systems for Robust Secure Transmission with Imperfect Sense Estimation

In this paper, we investigate reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS)-assisted integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) systems for robust physical layer security (PLS) schemes. Traditionally, eavesdroppers (Eves) typically avoid interacting with the base station, making it challenging to obtain their relevant information, which limits the implementation of PLS. Fortunately, the sensing information obtained by ISAC can contribute to the design of PLS. Therefore, leveraging imperfect sensing estimation and employing dedicated radar signals as artificial noise, we formulate an RIS-assisted joint active and passive beamforming design problem to maximize the sum secrecy rate while satisfying the user's quality of service constraints, the transmission power constraints, and the sensing signal strength requirements. To make the problem tractable, we first derive the bound for Eve's channel state information uncertainty region based on security approximations. Subsequently, we employ the S-procedure and the symbolic-deterministic methods to transform the infinite number of inequalities. We then utilize the first-order Taylor expansion, the second-order cone methods, and the successive convex approximation to address the nonconvexity problem, leading to an efficient suboptimal solution obtained by an iterative algorithm. Finally, the simulation results demonstrate the significant potential of the sensing function in enhancing security and the effectiveness of the proposed robust scheme in flexibly balancing communication and sensing quality. © 2002-2012 IEEE.

Predicting the state of health (SOH) of batteries is crucial for understanding their remaining lifespan and formulating more effective maintenance and management strategies. Utilizing electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) to assess the health status of batteries offers advantages such as high precision, rapid response, non-invasiveness, and reliability for accurately forecasting the remaining lifespan of batteries. In this paper, we propose an innovative method combining electrochemical impedance spectroscopy data to efficiently recognize and process complex patterns using deep neural networks by converting EIS into a two-dimensional image format. We have developed an improved convolutional autoencoder (ICAE) optimized to extract key features directly related to battery capacity in 2D EIS images and significantly improve feature characterization. The optimized features are further fed into the temporal convolutional network (TCN) to perform SOH prediction tasks. TCN utilizes its powerful time-dependent capture capability and long sequence memory mechanism to demonstrate superior performance in the field of SOH estimation. Compared with traditional methods, the proposed strategy not only significantly increases the prediction accuracy, but also opens up a new way to understand and analyze the internal relationship between complex time series and image data. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature 2025.

Strong noise is one of the biggest challenges in controlled-source electromagnetic (CSEM) exploration, which severely affects the quality of the recorded signal. We develop a novel and effective CSEM noise attenuation method that integrates a deep convolutional neural network (DCNN) with a high-quality sounding curve screening mechanism. This method first uses a DCNN to learn the large-scale noise characteristics of CSEM measured data and build a DCNN denoising model for attenuating the noise. Because some impulse noise remains after DCNN denoising, the high-quality sounding curve screening mechanism is innovatively applied to optimize the DCNN denoised data. The core of this method is the smoothness value (SV), which quantitatively evaluates the smoothness of the sounding curve (apparent resistivity curve). In effect, the mechanism segments the overall DCNN denoised data and calculates the corresponding sounding curve and its SV for each segment. The highest-quality sounding curve can be screened out by comparing the SVs of all curves as well as obtaining the highest-quality data segment present in the overall DCNN denoised data. Finally, our method is validated with synthetic and field data, demonstrating its feasibility and effectiveness in attenuating large-scale CSEM noise. The quality of CSEM data, which is heavily affected by noise, is significantly improved after processing by our method. © 2025 Society of Exploration Geophysicists. All rights reserved.

Noise-tolerant fixed-time leader-follower consensus controller design for multi-agent systems via fuzzy-neural-network

The leader-follower consensus control problem in multi-agent systems (MASs) is critical and has received significant attention. However, the simultaneous achievement of fixed-time stability and robustness is often challenging in MASs due to their inherent complexity and uncertainty. This paper developed a controller based on the proposed noise-tolerant fixed-time fuzzy neural network (NF-FNN) model to realize the leader-follower consensus of MASs. Specifically, the introduction of an integral error term makes the NF-FNN model have powerful noise tolerance, and a fuzzy gain parameter generated by the Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy logic system makes the NF-FNN model have fuzzy adaptiveness. In addition, a new partition-sign-by-power activation function is developed to ensure fixed-time stability of the NF-FNN model. Theoretical analysis and comparative simulations confirm the superb swift stability and excellent noise tolerance of controllers based on the NF-FNN model for achieving the leader-follower consensus of MASs, as compared with existing methods. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2025.

Self-Supervised Semantic Segmentation, aiming to leverage masses of unlabeled data for boosting semantic segmentation, has been rapidly emerging as an active task in recent years. However, existing self-supervised semantic segmentation approaches mainly focus on planar images, leaving multiple distorted objects encountered in panoramic images unexplored due to the formidable challenge of handling heterogeneous degrees of distortions across different locations. In this paper, we propose a novel Self-Supervised Panoramic Semantic Segmentation model, termed DASC-SPT, built upon the mainstream contrastive learning framework. Towards distortions in panoramic images, we present two structures to better learn from distorted features by applying planar images. For the input images of self-supervision, we design a Spherical Projection Transformation (SPT) strategy that involves randomly projecting planar images onto various locations of the sphere to introduce the distortions. For pixel-wise distorted features, we construct a Deformation-aware Sampling Consistency (DASC) framework to further utilize the shared content and discrepancies caused by different distortions of paired views, where the deformation-aware consistency can be quantified on pixel-wise features. Both of the two components facilitate the model to adapt to distortions and boost panoramic semantic segmentation. Extensive comprehensive experiments on three panoramic datasets demonstrate the effectiveness and superiority of DASC-SPT approach. © 2025 IEEE.

Fuzzy information Quantity Measurement and Feature Selection by Macrogranular Entropy

Feature selection is an important data preprocessing process in artificial intelligence, which aims to eliminate redundant features while retaining essential features. Measuring feature significance and relevance between features is a significant challenge. Fuzzy information entropy is an extension of Shannon entropy. It is widely used for quantifying the information of fuzzy divisions. However, it has significant limitations, notably the lack of monotonicity in fuzzy conditional entropy measure of decision uncertainty in the feature selection process. We introduce a novel measurement Macrogranular Entropy (ME) and construct some generalized forms, such as conditional macrogranular entropy, mutual macrogranular information, and joint macrogranular entropy. The conditional macrogranular entropy exhibits monotonicity when measuring decision uncertainty. Additionally, we propose two feature selection algorithms: one based on Monotonic Conditional Macrogranular Entropy (MCME), and the other based on the Degree of Symmetric Association (ADSA). The ADSA algorithm and the MCME algorithm are compared against eight other feature selection algorithms through a series of experiments. The comparison was conducted based on classification performance using SVM and NB classifiers, as well as evaluation metrics including F1-score and Recall. In terms of all four evaluation metrics, ADSA and MCME achieved the top two rankings, respectively. Specifically, on the NB and SVM classifiers, the ADSA algorithm improves the average accuracy by 12.22% and 2.88% compared to the original feature set, while MCME improves the accuracy by 10.07% and 1.01%, respectively. Experimental comparisons demonstrate that ADSA algorithm effectively removes redundant information from the dataset during feature selection. © 2025 IEEE.
