Current deep models provide remarkable object detection in terms of object classification and localization. However, estimating object rotation with respect to other visual objects in the visual context of an input image still lacks deep studies due to the unavailability of object datasets with rotation annotations. This paper tackles these two challenges to solve the rotation estimation of a parked bike with respect to its parking area. First, we leverage the power of 3D graphics to build a camera-agnostic well-annotated Synthetic Bike Rotation Dataset (SynthBRSet). Then, we propose an object-to-spot rotation estimator (OSRE) by extending the object detection task to further regress the bike rotations in two axes. Since our model is purely trained on synthetic data, we adopt image smoothing techniques when deploying it on real-world images. Multimodal Sentiment Analysis is a burgeoning research area, leveraging various modalities to predict the sentiment score. Nevertheless, previous studies have disregarded the impact of noise interference on specific modal sentiments during video recording, thereby compromising the accuracy of sentiment prediction. In this paper, we propose the Guided Circular Decomposition and Cross-Modal Recombination (GCD-CMR) model, which aims to eliminate contaminated sentiment features in a fine-grained way. To achieve this, we utilize tailored global information specific to each modality to guide the circular decomposing process in the GCD module, to produce a set of sentiment prototypes. Subsequently, in the CMR module, we align cross-modal sentiment prototypes and remove the contaminated prototypes for recombination. Experimental results on two publicly available datasets demonstrate that our model surpasses state-of-the-art models, confirming the effectiveness of our proposed method. The traditional kernel principal components analysis (KPCA) and linear discriminant analysis (LDA) have been verified to be two effective approaches for fault detection and diagnosis in recent years. Nevertheless, the conventional method and corresponding improved ones still exposed their deficiencies in some ways. Facing this dilemma, this paper presents a combination of optimized KPCA and modified LDA (OKPCA-MLDA), in which the OKPCA avoids the loss of original features after centralizing data in the eigenspace by adjusting covariance matrix's eigenvalue and transforming the distribution of variables thus providing representative and abundant principal components for the classifier. In addition, the MLDA maximizes a brand new objective function in feature space which achieves better classification performance than the conventional LDA, then utilizing diagnostic thresholds and similarity coefficients to identify the fault types. Based on the combined model, not only the fault detection and diagnosis can be realized simultaneously but also the accuracy of detection and diagnosis can be guaranteed. Furthermore, the simulation experiments on Tennessee Eastman (TE) benchmark process clearly illustrated the superiority of our proposed strategy.

To address the key challenge encountered in fake news detection, i.e., multimodal data is difficult to be effectively semantically represented due to its intrinsic heterogeneity, this paper proposes a multimodal knowledge representation method for fake news detection. First, visual feature extraction is performed for fake news image data, the relevant images are sliced into multiple blocks, and then visual modal features are obtained by linear projection layer mapping. This simplifies the feature extraction process and reduces the computational cost, which helps to improve the fake news recognition performance. Second, to meet the actual fake news detection needs, a long text representation method based on topic words is investigated for the text data in fake news. Finally, the multimodal representation of the same fake news data is optimized by establishing a connection between two different modalities, visual and text, and inputting it into a BiLSTM-Attention based network to achieve the fusion of multimodal features. The experiment selects the same fake news data of EANN model and uses four classical classification methods to verify the effect of knowledge representation and compare it with the fusion model ViLT which is not optimized for long text. The experiment proves that the accuracy rate of fake news detection using the multimodal representation proposed in this paper is improved by 7.4% compared to the EANN model, and by 9.3% compared to the ViLT representation.

Byte-based machine translation systems have shown significant potential in massively multilingual settings. Unicode encoding, which maps each character to specific byte(s), eliminates the emergence of unknown words, even in new languages. This avoids out-of-vocabulary risk in multilingual translation and enables broad language scalability. However, byte-level tokenization results in sequences that are hard to interpret due to limited semantic information per byte. Local contextualization has proven effective in assigning initial semantics to tokens, improving sentence comprehension. Nevertheless, variations in encoding rules across languages necessitate an adaptive approach for effective contextualization. To this end, we propose Mixture of Contextualization Experts (MoCE), adaptively selecting and mixing attention heads, which are treated as contextualization experts. This enhances the flexibility of contextualization scales and allows models to search for better contextualization combinations. Experiment results show that our method outperforms existing methods without extensive manual adjustment of hyper-parameters and surpasses subword-based models with fewer parameters in Ted-59 dataset. A low-profile, high-gain, wideband circularly polarized folded transmitarray antenna (CPFTA) is proposed, and a polarization-selective linear-to-circular polarization (LP-CP) conversion element is introduced. The CPFTA consists of a linearly polarized (LP) magnetoelectric dipole antenna and a circularly polarized (CP) helical patch antenna. The CPFTA demonstrates excellent performance with a 3dB gain bandwidth of 29.5% and a 3dB axial ratio (AR) bandwidth of 40.9%. © 2024 IEEE.

FedCross: Intertemporal Federated Learning Under Evolutionary Games

Federated Learning (FL) mitigates privacy leakage in decentralized machine learning by allowing multiple clients to train collaboratively locally. However, dynamic mobile networks with high mobility, intermittent connectivity, and bandwidth limitation severely hinder model updates to the cloud server. Although previous studies have typically addressed user mobility issue through task reassignment or predictive modeling, frequent migrations may result in high communication overhead. Addressing this challenge involves not only dealing with resource constraints, but also finding ways to mitigate the challenges posed by user migrations. We therefore propose an intertemporal incentive framework, FedCross, which ensures the continuity of FL tasks by migrating interrupted training tasks to feasible mobile devices. Specifically, FedCross comprises two distinct stages. In Stage 1, we address the task allocation problem across regions under resource constraints by employing a multi-objective migration algorithm to quantify the optimal task receivers. Moreover, we adopt evolutionary game theory to capture the dynamic decision-making of users, forecasting the evolution of user proportions across different regions to mitigate frequent migrations. In Stage 2, we utilize a procurement auction mechanism to allocate rewards among base stations, ensuring that those providing high-quality models receive optimal compensation. This approach incentivizes sustained user participation, thereby ensuring the overall feasibility of FedCross. Finally, experimental results validate the theoretical soundness of FedCross and demonstrate its significant reduction in communication overhead. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

cognitive diagnosis plays a vital role in modern intelligent education platforms to reveal students’ proficiency in knowledge concepts for subsequent adaptive tasks. However, due to the requirement of high model interpretability, existing manually designed cognitive diagnosis models hold too simple architectures to meet the demand of current intelligent education systems, where the bias of human design also limits the emergence of effective cognitive diagnosis models. In this paper, we propose to automatically design novel cognitive diagnosis models by evolutionary multiobjective neural architecture search (NAS). Specifically, we observe existing models can be represented by a general model handling three given types of inputs and thus first design an expressive search space for the NAS task in cognitive diagnosis. Then, we propose multi-objective genetic programming (MOGP) to explore the NAS task’s search space by maximizing model performance and interpretability. In the MOGP design, each architecture is transformed into a tree architecture and encoded by a tree for easy optimization, and a tailored genetic operation based on four sub-genetic operations is devised to generate offspring effectively. Besides, an initialization strategy is also suggested to accelerate the convergence by evolving half of the population from existing models’ variants. Experiments on two real-world datasets demonstrate that the cognitive diagnosis models searched by the proposed approach exhibit significantly better performance than existing models and also hold as good interpretability as human-designed models. Due to the sensitivity of data, Federated Learning (FL) is employed to enable distributed machine learning while safeguarding data privacy and accommodating the requirements of various devices. However, in the context of semidecentralized FL, clients' communication and training states are dynamic. This variability arises from local training fluctuations, heterogeneous data distributions, and intermittent client participation. Most existing studies primarily focus on stable client states, neglecting the dynamic challenges inherent in real-world scenarios. To tackle this issue, we propose a TRust-Aware clIent scheduLing mechanism called TRAIL, which assesses client states and contributions, enhancing model training efficiency through selective client participation. We focus on a semi-decentralized FL framework where edge servers and clients train a shared global model using unreliable intra-cluster model aggregation and inter-cluster model consensus. First, we propose an adaptive hidden semi- Markov model to estimate clients' communication states and contributions. Next, we address a client-server association optimization problem to minimize global training loss. Using convergence analysis, we propose a greedy client scheduling algorithm. Finally, our experiments conducted on real-world datasets demonstrate that TRAIL outperforms state-of-the-art baselines, achieving an improvement of 8.7% in test accuracy and a reduction of 15.3% in training loss. © 2024, CC BY.
