DURING our discussion at workshops for writing“What Does ChatGPT Say:The DAO from Algorithmic Intelligence to Linguistic Intelligence”[1],we had expected the next milestone for Artificial Intelligence(AI)would be in the direction of Imaginative Intelligence(II),i.e.,something similar to automatic wordsto-videos generation or intelligent digital movies/theater technology that could be used for conducting new“Artificiofactual Experiments”[2]to replace conventional“Counterfactual Experiments”in scientific research and technical development for both natural and social studies[2]-[6].Now we have OpenAI’s Sora,so soon,but this is not the final,actually far away,and it is just the beginning.

This paper studies a crucial decision-making problem of order planning for a hot rolling process (OPHR). The OPHR problem is to determine the optimal sequence of orders, with the goals of minimizing penalties for earliness/tardiness, maximizing profits from special orders, and minimizing transition penalties of adjacent orders. A multi-objective differential evolution (MODE) method with self-adaptive strategies (SaMODE) is developed to tackle it. Then, a radial basis function neural network is integrated into the SaMODE (RBFNN-SaMODE) as a surrogate model to reduce the computational burden of evaluating objectives throughout evolution. The proposed method is extensively tested on real production data, and the results demonstrate its superiority over the classical MODE, yielding highly effective solutions. © 2024 held by the owner/author(s).

Pulsar timing array(PTA)data releases show strong evidence for a stochastic gravitational-wave background in the nanohertz *** the signal is interpreted by a scenario of scalar-induced gravitational waves(SIGWs),we encounter overproduction of primordial black holes(PBHs).We wonder if varying the equation of state(EoS)of the early Universe can resolve this issue and thereby lead to a consistent interpretation of the PTA *** a data combination of PTA,big-bang nucleosynthesis,and cosmic microwave background,we find that an epoch with EoS w~O(10^(-2))between the end of inflation and the onset of radiation domination can significantly suppress the production of PBHs,leading to alleviation of the PBH-overproduction *** the inferred interval w=0.44_(-0.40)^(+0.52)at 95%confidence level,our scenario can interpret the PTA data just as well as the conventional scenario of SIGWs produced during the radiation domination.

In modern datacenters, memory disaggregation un-packs monolithic servers to build independent network-connected compute and memory pools, greatly improving resource uti-lization. Existing memory-disaggregated key-value stores adopt ownership sharing or ownership partitioning for request scheduling and they all show poor performance and scalability. The former generates multiple cache misses and multiple network round trips due to poor cache locality, while the latter fails to fully use resources on all Compute Nodes (CNs) due to load imbalance. In this paper, we propose Seastar, a fast and scalable key-value store that achieves high cache locality as well as load balancing. To enable high concurrency and ensure linearizability, Seastar exploits a self-verification version chain to provide out-of-place atomic updates and ensure consistent reads. To improve cache locality, Seastar leverages a pair-based ownership assigning scheme to assign the processing permission of requests corre-sponding to each key to a CN pair through two independent hash functions. To ensure load balancing among CNs, Seastar proposes a decentralized power-of-two-choices routing scheme to route the requests to the less-loaded CNs in CN pairs for handling. Experimental results demonstrate that Seastar improves the throughput by up to 6.7x and significantly reduces the latency compared with state-of-the-art memory-disaggregated key-value stores. © 2024 IEEE.

Few-Shot Source Separation for IoT Anti-Jamming via Multitask Learning and Meta-Learning

Malicious jamming attacks pose a significant threat to the integrity and performance of Internet of Things (IoT) networks. However, many jamming patterns are rare or infrequent, which makes them difficult to counter effectively. This article addresses the critical issue of anti-jamming (AJ) under few-shot sample conditions in IoT networks. Source separation is a key component of AJ communication. Although deep learning-based source separation has demonstrated significant advantages, it typically requires a large amount of labeled data, which can be impractical in certain environments. To overcome this challenge, we propose two novel schemes that leverage multitask learning (MTL) and meta-learning (ML) to enhance the model’s signal separation capabilities within the constraints of limited sample scenarios. MTL enhances robustness by leveraging shared representations across tasks, while ML allows for rapid adaptation to novel jamming signals with minimal samples. Specifically, we employ a modified separation model, SepFormer, as our baseline and integrate MTL and ML schemes to enable the separation of unknown or few-shot jamming signals. Additionally, we have constructed two datasets encompassing both simulated and real-world environmental data to test and evaluate the performance of the proposed methods. Simulation results demonstrate the superior AJ performance of our schemes, particularly when compared with a direct application of the separation model with few-shot samples. Furthermore, our evaluation of performance across various jamming scenarios and interference-to-signal ratios (ISRs) further confirms the effectiveness of our proposed scheme. © 2014 IEEE.

In this paper,we present several explicit reconstructions for the aether scalar tensor(AeST)theory derived from the background of the Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker cosmological *** is shown that the Einstein-Hilbert Lagrangian with a positive cosmological constant is the only Lagrangian capable of accurately replicating the exact expansion history of theΛcold dark matter(ΛCDM)universe filled solely with dust-like ***,theΛCDM-era can be produced within the framework of the AeST theory for some other fluids,including a perfect fluid with p=−(1/3)ρ,multifluids,and nonisentropic perfect ***,we demonstrate that theΛCDM-era can be replicated with no real matter field for the AeST *** cosmic evolution resulting from both the power-law and de-Sitter solutions can also be obtained.

Core-shell nanostructures usually exhibit tunable catalytic properties in comparison with their single core or shell counterpart due to electronic interaction and lattice strain between the core and shell ***,we report the intriguing evolution of copper(Cu)shells on the gold(Au)cores at different Au/Cu precursor ratios during the synthesis of core-shell Au-Cu nanoparticles at an organic medium via seed-mediated growth *** brief,at relatively low Cu ratios,quasi-spherical Au-Cu nanoparticles with conventional core-shell structures are the majority products,in which the Cu shell thickness increases with the increase of Cu precursor *** dif-ference is that at high Cu ratios,the Cu shells no longer increase their thickness,but evolve into a dendritic ***,the core-shell Au-Cu nanoparticles with dendritic Cu shells could be transformed into interesting Au-Cu cage-bell structures after a ripening process at elevated ***,through galvanic replacement reaction with Pt precursors,the thin Cu shells could be converted into CuPt alloy shells on the Au cores,which exhibit enhanced activity towards methanol oxidation reaction with satisfactory durability,in comparison with that of commercial Pt/C catalysts.

Cryptographic functions with low differential uniformity have wide applications in cryptography and cyber security. In this paper, we further investigate c-differential uniformity proposed by Ellingsen et al. (IEEE Transactions on Information Theory. 2020, 66(9): 5781-5789). Specifically, two classes of power functions with low (1)-differential uniformity over finite fields with odd characteristic are obtained. In addition, a class of permutation polynomials and P1N or AP1N functions over F3n are proposed. These functions with low c-differential uniformity are utilized to resist against c-differential attacks in cyberspace from those with the usual low differential uniformity. © 2023 IEEE.

Inflammasomes are essential complexes of innate immune system, which form the first line of host defense against pathogens. Mounting evidence accumulates that inflammasome signaling is highly correlated with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). However, there remains a significant gap in our understanding of the regulatory mechanism of inflammasome signaling. Combining mathematical modeling with experimental analysis of NLRP1b inflammasome signaling, we found that only the expression levels of caspase-1 and GSDMD have the potential to individually switch cell death modes. Reduction of caspase-1 or GSDMD switches cell death from pyroptosis to apoptosis. Caspase-1 and GSDMD present different thresholds and exert distinct pathway choices in switching death modes. Pyroptosis switches to apoptosis with an extremely low threshold level of caspase-1, but with a high threshold of GSDMD. Caspase-1-impaired cells employ ASC-caspase-8-dependent pathway for apoptosis, while GSDMD-impaired cells primarily utilize caspase-1-dependent pathway. Additionally, caspase-1 and GSDMD can severally ignite the cooccurrence of pyroptosis and apoptosis. Landscape topography unravels that the cooccurrence is dramatically different in caspase-1- and GSDMD-impaired cells. Besides pyroptosis state and apoptosis state, a potential new “coexisting” state in single cells is proposed when GSDMD acts as the driving force of the landscape. The “seesaw model” is therefore proposed, which can well describe the death states that are controlled by caspase-1 or GSDMD in single cells. Our study sheds new light on NLRP1b inflammasome signaling and uncovers the switching mechanisms among various death modes, providing potential clues to guide the development of more rational control strategies for diseases.
