The 3D generative adversarial network (GAN) inversion converts an image into 3D representation to attain high-fidelity reconstruction and facilitate realistic image manipulation within the 3D latent space. However, previous approaches face challenges regarding the trade-off between the reconstruction ability and editability. That is, reversing a real-world image to a low-dimensional latent code would inevitably lead to information loss, and achieving a near-perfect reconstruction using high-rate triplane representation often limits the ability to manipulate the image freely in the latent space. To address these issues, we propose a novel latent conditioning encoder-based framework with the alignment between the low-dimensional latent and high-dimensional triplane. A non-semantic guided editing strategy bridges the intrinsic relation between the latent condition and triplane generation, making it possible to edit the high-dimensional representation by latent manipulation. As a result, our method can achieve high-fidelity reconstruction and editing simultaneously by directly controlling the latent code. Experimental results demonstrate that our approach excels in reconstruction and editing quality compared to previous 3D inversion methods. Furthermore, our method can also edit even real faces with large poses and out-of-domain cases.

Exploring Communication-efficient Federated Learning via Stateless In-network Aggregation

As an ambitious training paradigm, federated learning has garnered increasing attention in recent years, which enables collaborative training of a global model without accessing users' private data. However, due to the simultaneous and constant model updates gathering from massive distributed clients, the central server generally becomes a performance bottleneck. Additionally, the stateful aggregation (retaining all the updates from each client) conducted by the central server further poses potential threats to privacy, since it may recover the raw data based on such model updates inversely. The state-of-the-art methodologies, however, fail to address these two problems concurrently and efficiently. To this end, we propose GAIN, a secure aggregation acceleration service for federated learning. At its core, GAIN leverages programmable switches deployed at the edge network to aggregate model updates in a stateless manner before transmitting them to the central server. Consequently, GAIN can accelerate the transmission and aggregation of model updates while eliminating the chance of recovering private data. We evaluate the performance of GAIN through FPGA-based experiments and large-scale simulations. The results show that GAIN can effectively reduce bandwidth overhead and achieve up to 4.11× training throughput acceleration while prioritizing privacy protection. © 2025 IEEE.

YOLO-SAD for fire detection and localization in real-world images

Fire detection aims to effectively monitor fires and provide timely warnings. Accurate identification and precise localization are critical in this task. However, there are several challenges, including feature diversity, background interference, foreground clutter, and the detection of small fires, which hinder overall detection performance. To address these challenges, we propose a fire detection method called YOLO-SAD, which integrates a Swin transformer, an attention and convolution mix (ACmix) module, and a decoupled head based on the YOLO (You Only Look Once) architecture. The Swin transformer is adept at extracting more discriminative features, and thus can mitigate issues related to feature diversity. Additionally, the ACmix module partitions weights for the features, thereby reducing background interference. Finally, the decoupled head incorporates a modified loss function designed to enhance the detection of small fires. Extensive experiments have been conducted on three public benchmark datasets, and the results demonstrate the YOLO-SAD is superior to the state-of-the-art methods in terms of both qualitative and quantitative metrics. The rapid evolution of artificial intelligence, big data, and generative AI models has ushered in significant transformations across various sectors, including education. Digital Human Technique, an innovative technology grounded in advanced computer science and artificial intelligence, is reshaping educational paradigms by enabling virtual humans to simulate human behavior, express emotions, and interact with users. This paper explores the application of Digital Human Technique in education reform, focusing on creating immersive, intelligent classroom experiences that foster meaningful interactions between teachers and students. We define Digital Human Technique and delve into its key technical components such as character modeling and rendering, natural language processing, computer vision, and augmented reality technologies. Our methodology involves analyzing the role of educational digital humans created through these technologies, assessing their impact on educational processes, and examining various application scenarios in educational reform. Results indicate that Digital Human Technique significantly enhances the learning experience by enabling personalized teaching, increasing engagement, and fostering emotional connections. Educational digital humans serve as virtual teachers, interactive learning aids, and facilitators of emotional interaction, effectively addressing the challenges of traditional educational methods. They also promote a deeper understanding of complex concepts through simulated environments and interactive digital content. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

Spatial audio quality evaluation is essential for applications like virtual and augmented reality, where accurate sound reproduction enhances user immersion. While subjective listening tests are the gold standard, they are costly and time-consuming. To address this, we propose HAPG-SAQAM, an objective metric for assessing timbre quality, spatial quality, and overall quality of binaural audio, guided by human auditory perception. Our contributions include: (1) the Multi-scale Auditory Guided Feature Extraction (MAGFE) module, incorporating gammatone frequency cepstral coefficients for better alignment with human perception; (2) Perceptual Weighted Loss (PWL), optimizing the weighting of timbre quality (TQ) and spatial quality (SQ) loss based on subjective test data; and (3) data augmentation techniques to enhance robustness by amplifying perceptual distortions. Experimental results show HAPG-SAQAM improves correlation with subjective scores by 10%, with ablation studies confirming the contributions of its components to enhanced spatial and overall audio quality.

Rsta: A Reversible Signal Transmission Architecture for Breaking the Limitation of Unidirectional Transmission

Molecular circuits are essential tools for biosensing and molecular information processing. However, the long-distance and reversible transmission of orthogonal signals remains a significant challenge in molecular circuits, preventing molecular signals from achieving reversible transmission similar to that of electrical signals in wires. To overcome the limitations of unidirectional signal transmission and facilitate the integration of antagonistic circuits. We propose a reversible signal transmission architecture (RSTA) with wire-like characteristics to achieve reversible signal transmission based on fundamental molecular devices known as reversible signal fan-out devices (RSFDs). The polarity of the input signal dictates the transmission direction, establishing the initial condition for the output signals. Cascaded RSFDs within RSTA offer two key advantages. First, the temporal response to signals. Second, the reversible transformation of opposite circuit types without structural modification. We experimentally validated the principles and functionality of RSTA using temporal logic device and integrated molecular circuits. This work advances the field of reversible molecular signal transmission, enabling the rational design of complex molecular circuits and molecular information processing systems. We envision applications of this technology in nanomachines, molecular computing, and biosensing. © 2025, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Question Selection for Multi-Modal Code Search Synthesis using Probabilistic Version Spaces

Searching the occurrences of specific code patterns (code search) is a common task in software engineering, and programming by example (PBE) techniques have been applied to ease customizing code patterns. However, previous PBE tools only synthesize programs meeting the input-output examples, which may not always align with the user intent. To bridge this gap, this paper proposes Excalibur, a multi-modal (example and natural language description) and interactive synthesizer for code search. Excalibur ensures that the generated programs are correct for the provided examples (soundness) and include the user-intended program (bounded completeness). Furthermore, Excalibur helps the user identify the user-intended program through question-answer interaction. To minimize the required interaction efforts, question selection is crucial. To improve question selection for code search, we propose probabilistic version spaces (ProbVS), in which the user-intended program’s probability is high and others are low. ProbVS combines traditional version spaces for compactly representing extensive programs and large language models (on the user-provided natural language description) for adjusting programs’ probabilities to align with users’ intents. Extensive experiments on a benchmark of 44 tasks demonstrated the effectiveness of Excalibur and ProbVS and demystified how ProbVS affects probability distributions and how the configurable parameters affect ProbVS. © 1976-2012 IEEE.

Traditional LiDAR SLAM approaches prioritize localization over mapping, yet high-precision dense maps are essential for numerous applications involving intelligent agents. Recent advancements have introduced methods leveraging neural fields to enhance mapping capabilities;however, these approaches still face several limitations. Firstly, concerning scene representation, they typically employ neural fields with high-dimensional features and multi-layer perceptron decoders utilizing non-continuous activation functions. This results in low learning efficiency and challenges in capturing high-frequency signals. Secondly, in terms of scene organization, these methods often treat the entire scene as a singular neural field, leading to inefficiencies, inflexibility, and difficulties in rectifying accumulated errors when mapping large-scale environments over extended periods. To tackle the first issue, we propose a lightweight continuous SDF regression approach by encoding the scene in single-valued embeddings and decoding SDF values from a Kolmogorov-Arnold Network. By minimizing discrepancies in measuring range, sampling distance, and decoded SDF values, we facilitate iterative frame-to-model tracking and bundle adjustment neural mapping. To mitigate the second challenge, we propose structuring the whole scene into multiple neural SDF submaps. By establishing node-node, node-submap, and loop closure constraints into a global pose graph, the system can create dense neural maps with global consistency across large-scale scenes. Experimental evaluations in both real-world and simulated settings indicate that our system achieves superior mapping completeness and accuracy, enhanced learning efficiency, reduced memory consumption, and greater flexibility compared to its counterparts. © 2025 IEEE.

Zram Instance Pool Framework for Adaptive Memory Compression in Resource-Sensitive Embedded Operating Systems

Memory compression can reduce the size of the inactive data in the random access memory (RAM), thereby freeing up unused space and allowing more programs to run;however, current mainstream memory compression frameworks (e.g., Zram and Zswap) and algorithms (e.g., Zstd and Lz4) do not effectively solve the problem of increased CPU utilization, causing they cannot be directly applied to the resource-sensitive embedded operating system that is sensitive to both CPU utilization and memory usage. In this study, we develop a Zram instance pool framework called ZramPool for adaptive memory compression. The framework consists of the swap space with multiple Zram instances and the adaptive Zram compression module. Through introducing linear regression analysis, the number of Zram instances can be adaptively adjusted based on the size of the compressed data, allowing Zram instances to work in parallel to match the workload. In ZramPool, we achieve two different requirements of reducing CPU utilization while keeping compression speed and increasing compression speed while keeping CPU utilization. ZramPool is deployed in the embedded Linux OS with a 8GB memory size running on the ARMv8 architecture. For the first requirement, ZramPool can reduce CPU utilization by an average of 11.42% while the compression speed only decreases by an average of 2.4%. For the second requirement, ZramPool can increase compression speed by an average of 11.71% while the CPU utilization only increases by an average of 1.9%. © 1982-2012 IEEE.

Prune and Merge: Efficient Token Compression for Vision Transformer with Spatial Information Preserved

Token compression is essential for reducing the computational and memory requirements of transformer models, enabling their deployment in resource-constrained environments. In this work, we propose an efficient and hardware-compatible token compression method called Prune and Merge. Our approach integrates token pruning and merging operations within transformer models to achieve layer-wise token compression. By introducing trainable merge and reconstruct matrices and utilizing shortcut connections, we efficiently merge tokens while preserving important information and enabling the restoration of pruned tokens. Additionally, we introduce a novel gradient-weighted attention scoring mechanism that computes token importance scores during the training phase, eliminating the need for separate computations during inference and enhancing compression efficiency. We also leverage gradient information to capture the global impact of tokens and automatically identify optimal compression structures. Extensive experiments on the ImageNet-1k and ADE20K datasets validate the effectiveness of our approach, achieving significant speed-ups with minimal accuracy degradation compared to state-of-the-art methods. For instance, on DeiT-Small, we achieve a 1.64× speed-up with only a 0.2% drop in accuracy on ImageNet-1k. Moreover, by compressing segmenter models and comparing with existing methods, we demonstrate the superior performance of our approach in terms of efficiency and effectiveness.
