This paper investigates a novel fault tolerant control scheme to handle actuator faults in nonlinear systems based on policy iteration algorithm with fault observer. The fault observer is established to estimate the actuator fault, which is used to construct an improved performance index function that reflects the fault, regulation and control simultaneously. With the help of the proper performance index function, the FTC problem is transformed into an optimal control problem. By constructing a critic neural network, the Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equation can be solved by using policy iteration algorithm, and then the approximated fault tolerant controller can be obtained directly. The closed-loop system is guaranteed to be uniformly ultimately bounded based on the Lyapunov's direct method. Simulation example is given to verify the effectiveness of the developed FTC scheme.

Energy consumption of an office building is generally divided into energy consumptions from sockets, lights and air-conditioners, which are measured in each room of the office building by three ammeters installed inside, respectively. On the other hand, an office building generally consists of several types of rooms, i.e., office rooms, computer rooms, storage rooms, meeting rooms, etc., the energy consumption of which varies in accordance with different working routines in each type of room. In this paper, several novel reservoir topologies of echo state network (ESN) are proposed, and ESNs with different reservoir topologies are applied to predicting energy consumption of rooms in an office building. A case study shows that the proposed simplified reservoir topologies are sufficient to achieve outstanding performance of ESN in the prediction of building energy consumption.

Using the pseudo-generalized Hamiltonian method, this paper investigates the decentralized nonlinear robust coordinated control of multiple static synchronous compensators(STATCOMs) in multi-machine multiload power systems. First,the uncertain nonlinear differential algebraic equation model is constructed for the power system. Then, the dissipative pseudogeneralized Hamiltonian realization of the system is established by means of variable transformation and prefeedback ***, based on the obtained dissipative pseudo-generalized Hamiltonian realization, a new-style decentralized nonlinear robust coordinated controller is put forward. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of the control scheme.

Residential energy scheduling on demand side is a hot research area for saving energy and balancing loads. In this paper, an adaptive dynamic programming method is proposed for residential energy scheduling to reduce cost between two adjacent housing units. Two sets of storage batteries and solar stations make energy scheduling problems quite complicated while using traditional methods. The scheduling algorithm is designed based on action dependent heuristic dynamic programming. In the utility function, the weighting function is given to adjust the remaining capacities of batteries. Furthermore, the temperature becomes an input of neural networks to stay close to reality. Simulation results show the effectiveness of saving cost and balancing loads.

Traffic flow prediction is very important in the deployment of intelligent transportation system. Based on our previous research on deep learning approach for traffic data prediction, we further evaluates the performance of the SAE model for traffic flow prediction at daytime and nighttime. Through 250 experimental tasks training a SAE model and evaluating its performance at daytime and nighttime with 3 different criteria, we obtain the best combination of hyper parameters for each criterion at different times on weekday and non-weekday, respectively. Experimental results show that the MAE and RMSE at daytime are larger than that at nighttime, while the MRE at daytime are smaller than that at nighttime. For different criteria, the hyper parameters of the SAE model should vary accordingly. The results in this paper indicate that in real applications, traffic flow prediction using the deep learning approach can be a combination of multiple SAE models with different parameters suitable for different periods, which is of significance in future research.

We have witnessed the emergence of a new set of corporations that have been able to grow faster than the competition with fewer resources. Corporations such as Uber and Air Bnb have grown to become one of the largest of their kind in less than ten years: Uber was established in 2009 and is currently the world's biggest taxi company. Interestingly, it does not own any vehicles. Similarly, Air Bnb was established in 2008 and is currently is the world's largest accommodation provider. Again, interestingly, it does not own any real estate. What is happening here, and more importantly, what kind of business model innovation has taken place, if any? This paper aims to shed light on these questions by analyzing the business models of these companies and contrasting them with those of their respective industry incumbents. The results highlight the importance of software in automatizing and outsourcing otherwise capital and labor intensive activities as well as enabling the business model to build upon logical resources composed of decentralized, transient slack resources of individuals and companies.

Past chemical industry accident cases include volume valuable information like precursor, equipment involved, relevant causes and experiences of emergence response. In-depth analysis and fully utilization of these information play an important decision-making role in controlling risk and enhancing safety performance in chemical industry. In this work, a survey of use of accident data is conducted around the world and the result shows that the detailed use of these information play an important role in preventing accidents. However, in China there much more needs to be done in the application of accident data. According to the needs of safety management of chemical plants, a simple and effective method of the use of chemical accident cases is proposed based on collecting and analyzing of a large number of chemical accident cases. And finally, a utilization system of chemical industry accident cases is implemented through Microsoft access 2010. The result shows that the system can realize the effective management and use of past chemical accident information.

For a high precision Non-Uniform Rational B-Spline(NURBS) interpolator, calculating the parameter of the next path interpolating point is an indispensable step, which affects feedrate fluctuation. This paper presents a new, simple and precise interpolation algorithm for parameter curve which adopts first-order Taylor's expansion, and then make use of the bisection method to achieve accurate path parameters. In the meanwhile, the interpolator is restricted from geometric and kinematical constraints. A simulation study is conducted to demonstrate the advantages of proposed interpolation algorithm compared with other algorithms for the parametric curves represented in the NURBS form.

A novel 3-layer mixed cultural evolutionary optimization framework for optimal operation of syngas production in a Texaco coal-water slurry gasifier

Optimizing operational parameters for syngas production of Texaco coal-water slurry gasifier studied in this paper is a complicated nonlinear constrained problem concerning 3 BP(Error Back Propagation) neural networks. To solve this model, a new 3-layer cultural evolving algorithm framework which has a population space, a medium space and a belief space is firstly conceived. Standard differential evolution algorithm(DE), genetic algorithm(GA), and particle swarm optimization algorithm(PSO) are embedded in this framework to build 3-layer mixed cultural DE/GA/PSO(3LM-CDE, 3LM-CGA, and 3LM-CPSO) algorithms. The accuracy and efficiency of the proposed hybrid algorithms are firstly tested in 20 benchmark nonlinear constrained functions. Then, the operational optimization model for syngas production in a Texaco coal-water slurry gasifier of a real-world chemical plant is solved effectively. The simulation results are encouraging that the 3-layer cultural algorithm evolving framework suggests ways in which the performance of DE, GA, PSO and other population-based evolutionary algorithms(EAs) can be improved,and the optimal operational parameters based on 3LM-CDE algorithm of the syngas production in the Texaco coalwater slurry gasifier shows outstanding computing results than actual industry use and other algorithms.

Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) is prone to frequency offset which gives rise to intercarrier interference (ICI). Recently, a novel OFDM transmission scheme called OFDM with index modulation (IM-OFDM) is proposed, which outperforms conventional OFDM in the absence of frequency offset. As in IM-OFDM, partial subcarriers are set to be idle by spatial modulation, the potential of IM-OFDM in ICI reduction is expected. In this paper, we find that this potential vanishes in some real scenarios with ICI, which leads to IM-OFDM exhibiting even worse performance than conventional OFDM. To improve this situation, a novel ICI cancellation scheme is designed, which integrates the ICI self-cancellation technique into the IM-OFDM framework. Via careful designs, the proposed scheme not only provides a solution to ICI problems of IM-OFDM, but also achieves an attractive tradeoff between the spectral efficiency and ICI cancellation performance of the system. Simulations validate that in the presence of carrier frequency offset (CFO), the proposed scheme significantly outperforms existing IM-OFDM and more importantly shows better performance than the conventional OFDM with ICI self-cancellation.
