This paper describes the design of an adaptive exponential time-varying sliding mode control (AETVSMC) with strong robustness for hypersonic cruise vehicles subject to parametric uncertainties on the inertial and aerodynamic coefficients. An adaptation scheme is adopted to deal with unknown but bounded system uncertainties. Thus, the selection of switching gains can be obtained on-line and the upper bounds of the model uncertainties are not required to be known in advance. Stability analysis of the closed-loop system is derived based on the Lyapunov theory. Finally, simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed approach.

Actions are the primary way an entity interacts with other entities and acts on the external world. Action knowledge is of vital importance for behavior modeling, analysis and prediction in security informatics. In this paper, we present our approach to action knowledge extraction from Web textual data. Our approach is based on mutual bootstrapping with knowledge reasoning, which can acquire more action knowledge types and require less human participation compared with the related work. We evaluate the performance of our method and demonstrate its effectiveness through experiment.

Twisting between adjacent modules drive is the main way to drive the snake-like robot. It is hard to build a mathematical model for the kind of snake-like robot and the control of it is very complex in the realistic environment. In purpose of developing a new kind of snake-like robot which is easy to model, a new way to drive snake-like robot which we call skin drive was invented. With this way, structure of snake-like robot can be very simple and easy to model. Besides control of snake-like robot can be simple. Eventually a snake-like robot was built and it is called round belt drive snake-like robot. Through some experiment and analysis, it is concluded that this new kind of snake-like robot is easy to model and easy to control and its structure is simple to build. In this paper, three important topics were analyzed and elaborated. They are round belt analysis and design, active pulley structure and guide pulley arrangement. Of course, some experiments were done to verify the round belt drive snake-like robot performance. Some experiment process and results were shown at the end in this paper.

The micro-blogs, as a new social media, possesses big differences with other social media on the aspect of information updating frequency, organization structure, user connection and etc, which have astonishing power of convergence and penetration. Based on this, it is proposed in this paper that Micro-Blog Public Opinion Index (MBPOI), which consists of five sub-indexes QI, II, RI, PI and CI (Quantity Index, Intensity Index, Relation Index, Polarity Index, Confidence Index) multi-dimensionally, is used to measure and evaluate the public topics and issues discussed in the micro-blogs. In the meanwhile, taking “ABB automatic world 2011” activity as example, the MBPOI prototype system is verified; it has been shown from the results that the MBPOI, which uses five sub-indexes method, owns much better effect by quantifying the topics/issues' influence in multi-dimensions and multi-levels, and provides effective micro-blogs analysis reports for monitoring and tracking the “ABB automatic world 2011” activity.

For a freeway traffic system with strict repeatable pattern, iterative learning control (ILC) has been successfully applied to local ramp metering for a macroscopic freeway environment by formulating the original ramp metering problem as an output tracking, disturbance rejection, and error compensation problem. In this paper, we address the freeway traffic ramp-metering system under a nonstrict repeatable pattern. ILC-based ramp metering and ILC add-on to ALINEA strategies are modified to deal with the presence of iteration-dependent parameters, iteration-dependent desired trajectory, and input constraints. Theoretical analysis and extensive simulations are used to verify the effectiveness of the proposed approaches.

A strictly positive real control problem for delta operator systems in a low frequency range is presented by using the generalized Kalman–Yakubovic˘–Popov lemma. The objective of the strictly positive real control problem is to design a controller such that the transfer function is strictly positive real and the resulting closed-loop system is stable. Sufficient conditions for the low frequency strictly positive real controller of the closed-loop delta operator systems are presented in terms of solutions to a set of linear matrix inequalities. A numerical example is given to illustrate the effectiveness and potential for the developed techniques.

Route guidance and information systems are developed and popularly applied to help travelers to make route decisions today. Such devices can present information or give recommendations, so they have influence on the travelers travel choice in the traffic network. In this sense, the influence of guidance system on travelers’ route choice should be considered when the scenario of traffic network design is developed. However, few of existing traffic network design problem model considers the effect, and this motivates us to develop a Continuous Network Design (CNDP) model under a traffic network with guidance system. This study is based on the research of Jahn et al. (2005) to develop a single level program for CNDP under the traffic network with guidance system. The guidance system give advices to travelers based on system optimal rules with user constrains. From the result of simulation, it can be inferred that if the tolerance factor φ is properly chosen in our CNDP model, travelers all can decrease their travel time after network design than that they experienced at user equilibrium before network enhancement. That is to say, every traveler can profit from our CNDP scenario for proper tolerance factor φ .
