COF-derived porous nitrogen-doped carbon for removal of emerging organic contaminants and efficient uranium extraction from seawater

The development of adsorbents for efficient and highly selective seawater extraction of uranium was instrumental in fostering sustainable progress in energy and addressing the prevailing energy crisis. However, the complex background composition of the marine environment, including radionuclides, organic pollutants, and a large number of co-existing heavy metal ions, were non-negligible obstacles to the extraction of uranium from seawater. The present investigation successfully employed a self-templated approach to synthesize porous nitrogen-doped carbon (PNC) derived from COF, which exhibited tremendous potential as an adsorbent for pollutant removal in environmental treatment. LZU1@PNC not only retained the structural features of the original COF-LZU1, but also overcame the acid-base instability problem commonly found in COFs. Subsequently, the removal process of two typical water pollutants on the material was investigated using 2,4-DCP and [UO2(CO3)3]4-. The results demonstrated that LZU1@PNC exhibited superior removal performance for the target pollutants compared to COF-LZU1, owing to its larger specific surface area and abundant defect structure. After six desorption-regeneration cycles, LZU1@PNC still maintained a high removal rate of the target contaminants, demonstrating the stability of this material and its excellent recyclability. In addition, based on various characterization techniques, the removal mechanism of 2,4-DCP was presumed to be mainly electrostatic attraction, hydrogen bonding, and π-π stacking interactions. Conversely, the elimination process of [UO2(CO3)3]4- predominantly relied on surface complexation phenomena. The present investigation provided new perspectives and stimulated a broader study of other COF-derived carbon materials and their modifications as adsorbents for uranium extraction from seawater and other applications. © 2024 Elsevier Ltd

An experimental study on the underwater electrical wire explosion under microsecond-scale discharge was carried out. The electrophysical and shock-wave (SW) parameters of the circuit were measured under different stored energy and inserted inductance components. Specifically, the resistive load voltage, circuit current and SW pressure waveform were obtained, and the electric power and deposited energy of the load were calculated. Also, the peak pressure, full width at half maximum (thickness), and impulse of the SW were compared. The results showed that as the stored energy increased, the discharge mode would change. For a fixed wire load, increasing the stored energy would enhance the subsequent plasma expansion and produce a stronger SW. Furthermore, adding the inductance components could decrease the amplitude of current, voltage and electric power, affecting the strength of shape of the main SW. For the 1.3 μH inserted inductor, the peak of SW pressure would increase by about 8.7%, while for the 10.7 μH case, the peak would drop by about 5.1%. The phenomenon might be related to the stored energy of the circuit inductance. There should be an optimal matching relationship between the SW strength and the loop inductance. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

In recent years, the photovoltaic power generation industry has been vigorously promoted and developed, while the solar cell as its core component may have micro-crack defects, which directly affect the power generation efficiency and stability of the photovoltaic system. Therefore, it is necessary to adopt a low-cost, efficient and flexible method to detect defects in solar cells. At present, most of the existing micro-cracks detection is carried out in the laboratory, and there is no EL micro-cracks detection in the actual photovoltaic power station. The main purpose of this paper is to design a set of EL defect detection system that can be used for actual photovoltaic power station modules, which is different from the traditional laboratory-level or module-level defect detection, and to carry the designed detection algorithm to the integrated device to operate. Experiments have shown that the system can perform real-time detection of photovoltaic module defects based on the string level, which improves the detection efficiency while saving time and cost, and shows good performance. © 2022 Institute of Physics Publishing. In recent years, crowdsourcing systems that tackle complex tasks through the collective efforts of many individuals have garnered substantial attention. However, the existing crowd-sourcing systems face some challenges such as overreliance on human experience and effort, information overload, and risks of privacy breaches. To overcome these challenges, this paper proposes an intelligent and trustworthy crowdsourcing frame-work based on blockchain and retrieval-augmented generation. The framework centers around foundational models to integrate the three distinct and sequentially interdependent phases: task decomposition, task allocation or recommendation, and task execution, enabling the automatic provision of a personalized, comfortable, and efficient user experience. Blockchain and smart contracts are utilized to protect user privacy and interests without leaning on any third trusted authority. Additionally, the operational process of the framework is explained and validated by taking printed circuit board design and manufacturing as a case study and ChatGPT as its generator.

Event-triggered receding horizon control via actor-critic design

In this paper, we propose a novel event-triggered near-optimal control for nonlinear continuoustime systems. The receding horizon principle is utilized to improve the system robustness and obtain better dynamic control performance. In the proposed structure, we first decompose the infinite horizon optimal control into a series of finite horizon optimal problems. Then a learning strategy is adopted, in which an actor network is employed to approximate the cost function and an critic network is used to learn the optimal control law in each finite horizon. Furthermore, in order to reduce the computational cost and transmission cost, an event-triggered strategy is applied. We design an adaptive trigger condition, so that the signal transmissions and controller updates are conducted in an aperiodic way. Detailed stability analysis shows that the nonlinear system with the developed event-triggered optimal control policy is asymptotically *** results on a single-link robot arm with different noise types have demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Meta-Imitation Learning is a promising technique for the robot to learn a new task from observing one or a few human demonstrations. However, it usually requires a significant number of demonstrations both from humans and robots during the meta-training phase, which is a laborious and hard work for data collection, especially in recording the actions and specifying the correspondence between human and robot. In this work, we present an approach of meta-imitation learning by watching video demonstrations from humans. In comparison to prior works, our approach is able to translate human videos into practical robot demonstrations and train the meta-policy with adaptive loss based on the quality of the translated data. Our approach relies only on human videos and does not require robot demonstration, which facilitates data collection and is more in line with human imitation behavior. Experiments reveal that our method achieves the comparable performance to the baseline on fast learning a set of vision-based tasks through watching a single video demonstration. © 2022 ICLR 2022 - 10th International Conference on Learning Representationss.
