Multimodal Sentiment Analysis (MSA) aims to identify human attitudes from diverse modalities such as visual, audio and text modalities. Recent studies suggest that the text modality tends to be the most effective, which has encouraged models to consider text as its core modality. However, previous methods primarily concentrate on projecting modalities other than text into a space close to the text modality and learning an identical representation, which does not fully make use of the auxiliary information provided by audio and visual modalities. In this paper, we propose a framework, Sequential Fusion of Text-close and Text-far Representations (SFTTR), aiming to refine multimodal representations from multimodal data which should contain both representations close to and far from the text modality. Specifically, we employ contrastive learning to sufficiently explore the information similarities and differences between text and audio/visual modalities. Moreover, to fuse the extracted representations more effectively, we design a sequential cross-modal encoder to sequentially fuse representations that are close to and far from the text modality. Experiments on three public benchmark datasets, MOSI, MOSEI, and CH-SIMS, demonstrate the superiority of the proposed method over the state-of-the-arts. © 2025 Association for Computational Linguistics.

MSMAE-Net: multi-semantic and multi-attention enhanced network for image forgery localization

The popularization of modern digital image technology has brought convenience to us, but it also poses many risks. The advancement of image editing software allows anyone to modify image content effortlessly. If these modified images are abused, they can severely impact societal safety and stability. To address these risks, we propose an end-to-end multi-scale collaborative enhancement image forgery localization network, termed MSMAE-Net. The method first employs a multi-branch feature extractor to initially capture both global and local information, with each branch optimized for different contextual information and features of the image. Next, to enhance the model’s ability to capture forged traces at various levels while maintaining the correlation between different spatial hierarchies, a boundary information aggregation module is designed. By constructing multiple branches with different receptive fields and collaborative learning with each other, a nested collaborative enhancement branch is designed to make the backbone network pay more attention to key features, so as to obtain better feature representation capability. Furthermore, to further fuse different semantic information, a novel strongly compatible semantic attention fusion module is proposed in this paper. Finally, an attention enhancement module is introduced in the localization of forgery regions to adaptively concentrate on key forged areas in the image and effectively capture the relationships between different pixels. In the experiments, we demonstrate that MSMAE-Net exhibits significant advantages in both localization accuracy and robustness in complex forgery scenarios when compared to other SOTA image forgery detection methods. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2025.

Weak Multi-Label data Stream Classification Under Distribution Changes in Labels

Multi-label stream classification aims to address the challenge of dynamically assigning multiple labels to sequentially arrived instances. In real situations, only partial labels of instances can be observed due to the expensive human annotations, and the problem of label distribution changes arises from multiple labels in a streaming mode, but few existing works jointly consider such challenges. Motivated by this, we propose the problem of weak multi-label stream classification (WMSC) and an online classification algorithm robust to weak labels. Specifically, we incrementally update the margin-based model using information from both the past model and the current incoming instance with partially observed labels. To increase the robustness to weak labels, we first adjust the classification margin of negative labels using the label causality matrix, which is constructed by the conditional probability of label pairs. Second, we introduce the label prototype matrix to regulate the margin by controlling the weighting parameter of the slack term. Additionally, to handle the potential distribution changes in labels, we utilize the instance-specific threshold via online thresholding to perform binary classification, which is formulated as a regression problem. Finally, theoretical analysis and empirical experimental results are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of WMSC in classifying unobserved streaming instances. © 2015 IEEE.

The burgeoning complexity of communication necessitates a high demand for security. Access control encryption is a promising primitive to meet the security demand but the bulk of its constructions rely on formulating the access control policy with identities. Attribute-based access control policy in attribute-based encryption (ABE) is known to be more expressive without relying on enumerating identities. We propose a generic framework to build attribute-based access control encryption from ciphertext-policy ABE. Our instantiations prioritize different emphases on expressiveness and efficiency. The first instantiation supports multi-valued AND-gate access control structures, while the second supports the linear-secret-sharing access structure. Both are prototyped with efficiency validated empirically. © 2024 IEEE.

Retrieval-Augmented Fine-Tuning for Improving Retrieve-and-Edit Based Assertion Generation

Unit Testing is crucial in software development and maintenance, aiming to verify that the implemented functionality is consistent with the expected functionality. A unit test is composed of two parts: a test prefix, which drives the unit under test to a particular state, and a test assertion, which determines what the expected behavior is under that state. To reduce the effort of conducting unit tests manually, Yu et al. proposed an integrated approach (integration for short), combining information retrieval with a deep learning-based approach to generate assertions for test prefixes, and obtained promising results. In our previous work, we found that the overall performance of integration is mainly due to its success in retrieving assertions. Moreover, integration is limited to specific types of edit operations and struggles to understand the semantic differences between the retrieved focal-test (focal-test includes a test prefix and a unit under test) and the input focal-test. Based on these insights, we then proposed a retrieve-and-edit approach named EDITAS to learn the assertion edit patterns to improve the effectiveness of assertion generation in our prior study. Despite being promising, we find that the effectiveness of EDITAS can be further improved. Our analysis shows that: ① The editing ability of EDITAS still has ample room for improvement. Its performance degrades as the edit distance between the retrieval assertion and ground truth increases. Specifically, the average accuracy of EDITAS is 12.38% when the edit distance is greater than 5. ② EDITAS lacks a fine-grained semantic understanding of both the retrieved focal-test and the input focal-test themselves, which leads to many inaccurate token modifications. In particular, an average of 25.57% of the incorrectly generated assertions that need to be modified are not modified, and an average of 6.45% of the assertions that match the ground truth are still modified. Improved quantum image weighted average filtering algorithm

Average filtering plays a vital role in image smoothing tasks. However, existing quantum image weighted average filtering methods suffer from high circuit complexity. Therefore, this paper proposes an improved quantum color image weighted average filtering algorithm and its corresponding quantum circuit. First, we improve the quantum circuit to prepare classical color images into a quantum state. Then, an improved quantum divider is developed, and a weighted average filter is constructed using basic quantum image processing modules. Next, to enhance the universality of the filter, a quantum comparator with lower circuit complexity is used to design a noise detection module for distinguishing noise from real signals. Finally, a quantum circuit for color image weighted average filtering is designed, and simulations are conducted on the IBM Quantum Experience (IBM Q) platform to verify the feasibility of our algorithm. The analysis shows that compared with existing methods, this method significantly reduces the circuit complexity and has better filtering performance. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2025.

A numerical magnitude aware multi-channel hierarchical encoding network for math word problem solving

Math word problem (MWP) represents a critical research area within reading comprehension, where accurate comprehension of math problem text is crucial for generating math expressions. However, current approaches still grapple with unresolved challenges in grasping the sensitivity of math problem text and delineating distinct roles across various clause types, and enhancing numerical representation. To address these challenges, this paper proposes a Numerical Magnitude Aware Multi-Channel Hierarchical Encoding Network (NMA-MHEA) for math expression generation. Firstly, NMA-MHEA implements a multi-channel hierarchical context encoding module to learn context representations at three different channels: intra-clause channel, inter-clause channel, and context-question interaction channel. NMA-MHEA constructs hierarchical constituent-dependency graphs for different levels of sentences and employs a Hierarchical Graph Attention Neural Network (HGAT) to learn syntactic and semantic information within these graphs at the intra-clause and inter-clause channels. NMA-MHEA then refines context clauses using question information at the context-question interaction channel. Secondly, NMA-MHEA designs a number encoding module to enhance the relative magnitude information among numerical values and type information of numerical values. DMC-Watermark: A backdoor richer watermark for dual identity verification by dynamic mask covering

With the increasing use of neural networks, the importance of copyright protection for these models has gained significant attention. Backdoor watermarking is one of the key methods for protecting copyright. However, on the one hand, most existing backdoor watermarks are triggered by visual images, making them easily detectable, and therefore vulnerable to various attacks. On the other hand, it is difficult for these methods to carry information related to the creator’s identity which can easily lead to fraudulent claims of ownership. These factors contribute to the vulnerability and limitations of backdoor watermarking. In this paper, we propose DMC-Watermark, a backdoor richer watermarking method that uses dynamic mask-covered image structures as triggers. Leveraging the semantic preservation of image structure in transformation attacks, we select image structure as triggers. Furthermore, we convert the author-related information into an array of color information and apply it as a mask to the extracted image structures, allowing it to serve as a second layer of verification during the validation phase to resist fraudulent claims of ownership. The final trigger pattern, embedded with author-related image structures, is applied to the selected images in the trigger set, generating a final trigger set that is trained together with clean samples to produce a protected model. The experiments show that the proposed DMC-Watermark performs well in terms of fidelity, invisibility, undetectability, functionality, dual verification and robustness on three different datasets and four representative DNNs, and it has wide applicability and excellent results in high-resolution images. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2025.

An Evolutionary Multitasking Algorithm for Efficient Multiobjective Recommendations

Represented by evolutionary algorithms and swarm intelligence algorithms, nature-inspired metaheuristics have been successfully applied to recommender systems and amply demonstrated effectiveness, in particular, for multiobjective recommendation. Owing to the population-based search paradigm, these algorithms can produce a number of recommendation lists, making diverse tradeoffs between multiple metrics and meeting the requirements of accuracy, novelty, diversity, and other user preferences. However, these algorithms are criticized for the low efficiency of the optimization process, especially when the number of users is large. To address this issue, this article proposes an evolutionary multitasking-based recommendation method, where each task corresponds to a user and all the tasks are optimized simultaneously, thus highly improving the efficiency of recommendation. To enhance the convergence speed, all the users are divided into multiple populations according to the similarity between their preferences, where each population evolves with internal knowledge transfer between users, and all the populations evolve with external knowledge transfer between populations. Experimental results on various datasets verify that the proposed method can better balance between multiple metrics than classical and deep neural network-based recommendation methods and exhibits significantly higher efficiency than evolutionary multiobjective optimization-based recommendation methods. © 2024 IEEE. Surface-Continuous Scene Representation for Light Field Depth Estimation via Planarity Prior

Light field (LF) imaging captures both spatial and angular information of the real world, enabling precise depth estimation. However, images are merely discrete expressions of scenes. Limited by imaging technology, LF camera cannot capture the infinite rays emitted by scenes, leading to the discrete information storage (e.g. pixel). Consequently, previous deep learning methods have encountered challenges in accurately extracting depth information from LF images. In this paper, we investigate a surface-continuous scene representation using planarity prior and design PlaneNet, a Plane-based Network that successfully generates highly detailed depth maps for real scenes. Specifically, inspired by the plane assumption that real-world scenes generally yield piecewise smooth surfaces, we refine it to the pixel level for continuous surface approximation, which can overcome the limitations of discrete representation. Rather than explicitly parameterizing planes as multiple coefficients, we propose a novel plane regular sampling operator (PRSO), enabling the network to fit smooth depth surfaces easily. To explore the role of our theory at the feature level, we also introduce PRSO into the intermediate layers of PlaneNet. Experiments show that our method achieves state-of-the-art performance on both synthetic and real-world LF scenes, ranking 1st (MSE) on the HCI 4D Light Field benchmark. Furthermore, we explore the utilization of our representation in multiple LF depth estimation networks, and experiments demonstrate improved performance when surface-continuous representation is applied. © 1991-2012 IEEE.
