This paper delves into an integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) system bolstered by a simultaneously transmitting and reflecting reconfigurable intelligent surface (STAR-RIS). Within this system, a base station (BS) is equipped with communication and radar capabilities, enabling it to communicate with ground terminals (GTs) and concurrently probe for echo signals from a target of interest. Moreover, to manage interference and improve communication quality, the rate splitting multiple access (RSMA) scheme is incorporated into the system. The signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) of the received sensing echo signals is a measure of sensing performance. We formulate a joint optimization problem of common rates, transmit beamforming at the BS, and passive beamforming vectors of the STAR-RIS. The objective is to maximize sensing SINR while guaranteeing the communication rate requirements for each GT. We present an iterative algorithm to address the non-convex problem by invoking Dinkelbach’s transform, semidefinite relaxation (SDR), majorization-minimization, and sequential rank-one constraint relaxation (SROCR) theories. Simulation results manifest that the performance of the studied ISAC network enhanced by the STAR-RIS and RSMA surpasses other benchmarks considerably. The results evidently indicate the superior performance improvement of the ISAC system with the proposed RSMA-based transmission strategy design and the dynamic optimization of both transmission and reflection beamforming at STAR-RIS. © 2015 IEEE.

The metaverse is undergoing repaid evolution with metaverse services emerging as a significant focal point of research across virtual reality, augmented reality, and metaverse social networking. However, a key challenge lies in the scarcity of datasets that accurately represent metaverse services, impeding the advancement of metaverse service technologies and applications. To address this challenge, we have categorized metaverse services into virtual scene services and meta-services. Subsequently, we introduced a metaverse service dataset called "VMeta". VMeta encompasses comprehensive information about virtual scene services and meta-services, including essential QoS (Quality of Service) data. This dataset serves as a valuable resource for researchers exploring various aspects of metaverse services, with the ultimate goal of enhancing user satisfaction in the metaverse. We have conducted evaluations and tests on VMeta to optimize metaverse QoS. The results demonstrate its substantial value for metaverse service research. Multimodal dialogue emotion recognition integrates data from multiple modalities to accurately identify emotional states in conversations. However, differences in expression and information density across modalities complicate the fusion of features. Traditional methods may introduce redundant information from other utterances, reducing the accuracy of emotion recognition. Existing one-hot labels often fail to capture the full range of emotional expressions, leading to biased results. To address these issues, we propose a model that fuses different modalities within the same utterance to avoid redundancy. It employs a progressive classification process, refining emotion recognition from coarse to fine granularity. Additionally, we use emotion polarity probabilities as weights for fine-grained classification and introduce a multimodal information-rich label that considers both the data and their interactions. Experiments on IEMOCAP and MELD datasets demonstrate the model’s effectiveness, significantly improving dialog emotion recognition accuracy. Our code is available at https://***/r/LOCG-188E.

Synthesizing realistic videos of talking faces under custom lighting conditions and viewing angles benefits various downstream applications like video conferencing. However, most existing relighting methods are either time-consuming or unable to adjust the viewpoints. In this paper, we present the first real-time 3D-aware method for relighting in-the-wild videos of talking faces based on Neural Radiance Fields (NeRF). Given an input portrait video, our method can synthesize talking faces under both novel views and novel lighting conditions with a photo-realistic and disentangled 3D representation. Specifically, we infer an albedo tri-plane, as well as a shading tri-plane based on a desired lighting condition for each video frame with fast dual-encoders. We also leverage a temporal consistency network to ensure smooth transitions and reduce flickering artifacts. Our method runs at 32.98 fps on consumer-level hardware and achieves state-of-the-art results in terms of reconstruction quality, lighting error, lighting instability, temporal consistency and inference speed. We demonstrate the effectiveness and interactivity of our method on various portrait videos with diverse lighting and viewing conditions. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

SpirDet: Towards Efficient, Accurate and Lightweight Infrared Small Target Detector

In recent years, the detection of infrared small targets using deep learning methods has garnered substantial attention due to notable advancements. To improve the detection capability of small targets, these methods commonly maintain a pathway that preserves high-resolution features of sparse and tiny targets. However, it can result in redundant and expensive computations. To tackle this challenge, we propose SpirDet, a novel approach for efficient detection of infrared small targets. Specifically, to cope with the computational redundancy issue, we employ a new dual-branch sparse decoder to restore the feature map. Firstly, the fast branch directly predicts a sparse map indicating potential small target locations (occupying only 0.5% area of the map). Secondly, the slow branch conducts fine-grained adjustments at the positions indicated by the sparse map. Additionally, we design an lightweight DO-RepEncoder based on reparameterization with the Downsampling Orthogonality, which can effectively reduce memory consumption and inference latency. Extensive experiments show that the proposed SpirDet significantly outperforms state-of-the-art models while achieving faster inference speed and fewer parameters. For example, on the IRSTD-1K dataset, SpirDet improves MIoU by 4.7 and has a 7× FPS acceleration compared to the previous state-of-the-art model. The code will be open to the public. © 2024, CC BY.

Deep learning is a powerful multi-layer architecture that has important applications in image processing and text classification. This paper first introduces the development of deep learning and two important algorithms of deep learning: convolutional neural networks and recurrent neural networks. The paper then introduces three applications of deep learning for image recognition, image detection, and image forensics, as well as three text classification methods based on convolutional neural networks, recurrent neural networks, and other text classification methods. Finally, the development trend of deep learning in the field of text and image processing and the difficulties to be further researched are summarised and prospected.

The graph with complex annotations is the most potent data type, whose constantly evolving motivates further exploration of the unsupervised dynamic graph representation. One of the representative paradigms is graph contrastive learning. It constructs self-supervised signals by maximizing the mutual information between the statistic graph’s augmentation views. However, the semantics and labels may change within the augmentation process, causing a significant performance drop in downstream tasks. This drawback becomes greatly magnified on dynamic graphs. To address this problem, we designed a simple yet effective framework named CLDG. Firstly, we elaborate that dynamic graphs have temporal translation invariance at different levels. Then, we proposed a sampling layer to extract the temporally-persistent signals. It will encourage the node to maintain consistent local and global representations, i.e., temporal translation invariance under the timespan views. The extensive experiments demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of the method on seven datasets by outperforming eight unsupervised state-of-the-art baselines and showing competitiveness against four semi-supervised methods. Compared with the existing dynamic graph method, the number of model parameters and training time is reduced by an average of 2,001.86 times and 130.31 times on seven datasets, respectively. Starting with small and simple concepts, and gradually introducing complex and difficult concepts is the natural process of human learning. Spiking Neural Networks (SNNs) aim to mimic the way humans process information, but current SNNs models treat all samples equally, which does not align with the principles of human learning and overlooks the biological plausibility of SNNs. To address this, we propose a CL-SNN model that introduces Curriculum Learning(CL) into SNNs, making SNNs learn more like humans and providing higher biological interpretability. CL is a training strategy that advocates presenting easier data to models before gradually introducing more challenging data, mimicking the human learning process. We use a confidence-aware loss to measure and process the samples with different difficulty levels. By learning the confidence of different samples, the model reduces the contribution of difficult samples to parameter optimization automatically. We conducted experiments on static image datasets MNIST, Fashion-MNIST, CIFAR10, and neuromorphic datasets N-MNIST, CIFAR10-DVS, DVS-Gesture. The results are promising. Unraveling the neural dynamics of mathematical interference in english reading: A novel approach with deep learning and fNIRS data

English has emerged as the predominant global language, driving efforts to optimize its acquisition through interdisciplinary cognitive research. While behavioral studies suggest a link between English learning and mathematical cognition, the neural mechanisms underlying this relationship remain poorly understood. To bridge this gap, the present study employs functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) to construct a novel dataset on mathematical interference in English acquisition. Utilizing this dataset, a novel deep learning model named AC-LSTM is proposed, amalgamating Transformer and LSTM architectures to identify residual mathematical cognition during the English learning process. The AC-LSTM model achieves an exceptional accuracy rate of 99.8 %, surpassing other machine learning and deep learning models. Moreover, a multi-class classification experiment is conducted to discern algebra, geometry, and quantitative reasoning interference, with the AC-LSTM model achieving the highest accuracy of 75.9 % in this classification task. Furthermore, crucial brain channels for interference detection are pinpointed through grid search, and alterations in vital brain regions (R-Broca and L-Broca) are unveiled via association rule analysis. By integrating fNIRS, deep learning, and data mining techniques, this study delves into cognitive interference in English learning, providing valuable insights for educational neuroscience and data mining research. © 2025 The Authors

Dynamic searchable symmetric encryption (DSSE) enables users to delegate the keyword search over dynamically updated encrypted databases to an honest-but-curious server without losing keyword privacy. This paper studies a new and practical security risk to DSSE, namely, secret key compromise (e.g., a user’s secret key is leaked or stolen), which threatens all the security guarantees offered by existing DSSE schemes. To address this open problem, we introduce the notion of searchable encryption with key-update (SEKU) that provides users with the option of non-interactive key updates. We further define the notion of post-compromise secure with respect to leakage functions to study whether DSSE schemes can still provide data security after the client’s secret key is compromised. We demonstrate that post-compromise security is achievable with a proposed protocol called "Bamboo". Interestingly, the leakage functions of Bamboo satisfy the requirements for both forward and backward security. We conduct a performance evaluation of Bamboo using a real-world dataset and compare its runtime efficiency with the existing forward-and-backward secure DSSE schemes.
