Incremental few-shot semantic segmentation (IFSS) expands segmentation capacity of the trained model to segment new-class images with few samples. However, semantic meanings may shift from background to object class or vice versa during incremental learning. Moreover, new-class samples often lack representative attribute features when the new class greatly differs from the pre-learned old class. In this paper, we propose a causal framework to discuss the cause of semantic shift and incompleteness in IFSS, and we deconfound the revealed causal effects from two aspects. First, we propose a Causal Intervention Module (CIM) to resist semantic shift. CIM progressively and adaptively updates prototypes of old class, and removes the confounder in an intervention manner. Second, a Prototype Refinement Module (PRM) is proposed to complete the missing semantics. In PRM, knowledge gained from the episode learning scheme assists in fusing features of new-class and old-class prototypes. In order to extract the effective features of EEG data based on P300 potential and improve the classification accuracy of brain-computer interface (BCI) system, a novel method from spatial and frequency domain is proposed in this paper. That is, the multi-rhythm signal and Common Spatial Pattern (CSP) are combined to extract the feature of P300 potential. Meanwhile, this paper uses the elastic networks as classifier which combines with $l-data$ norm and $l-{2}$ norm that not only makes the coefficients sparse, but also avoids losing the inhere t structure among samples from the same class. In this paper, the public EEG data set is used to verify the proposed method and by comparing the traditional CSP method. The experimental results show that the new method provides more frequency-space-related feature information increased by 4.8% compared with the traditional CSP method. It indicates that the proposed method achieves the good performance for the P300 EEG analysis. © 2019 IEEE.

Efficient Pre-trained Semantics Refinement for Video Temporal Grounding

Video Temporal Grounding (VTG) is a fine-grained video understanding task that aims to ground the relevant video moments corresponding to given language queries. Most existing approaches utilize powerful Vision-Language Models (VLMs), augmented with additional network architectures or specialized modules to supplement temporal reasoning capabilities. Despite achieving impressive performance, these approaches tend to overlook a critical issue that pre-trained visual and textual representations are not specifically optimized for VTG. Particularly, such representations often suffer from inter-modal semantic misalignment referring to the inconsistency between different modalities, and intra-modal semantic confusion, caused by insufficient discriminability within visual modality. To address these limitations, we propose an efficient semantics refinement framework built upon pre-trained models, featuring two core components. First, the Modal Knowledge Bidirectional Propagation (MKBP) component promotes inter-modal semantic alignment via bidirectional enrichment of textual and visual semantics, exploiting their complementary strengths without introducing additional parameters. Second, the Content Context Contrast Learning (C3L) component alleviates intra-modal semantic confusion within visual modality by bringing query-specific visual features closer while separating irrelevant ones. Comprehensive experiments on six benchmark datasets demonstrate the superior performance of our proposed methods. © 1991-2012 IEEE.

Solving Multitrip Pickup and Delivery Problem With Time Windows and Manpower Planning Using Multiobjective Algorithms

The multitrip pickup and delivery problem with time windows and manpower planning(MTPDPTW-MP)determines a set of ambulance routes and finds staff assignment for a hospital. It involves different stakeholders with diverse interests and objectives. This study firstly introduces a multiobjective MTPDPTW-MP(MO-MTPDPTWMP) with three objectives to better describe the real-world scenario. A multiobjective iterated local search algorithm with adaptive neighborhood selection(MOILS-ANS) is proposed to solve the problem. MOILS-ANS can generate a diverse set of alternative solutions for decision makers to meet their requirements. To better explore the search space, problem-specific neighborhood structures and an adaptive neighborhood selection strategy are carefully designed in MOILS-ANS. Experimental results show that the proposed MOILS-ANS significantly outperforms the other two multiobjective algorithms. Besides, the nature of objective functions and the properties of the problem are analyzed. Finally, the proposed MOILS-ANS is compared with the previous single-objective algorithm and the benefits of multiobjective optimization are discussed.

Modality-Aware Contrastive Instance Learning with Self-Distillation forWeakly-Supervised Audio-visual Violence Detection

Weakly-supervised audio-visual violence detection aims to distinguish snippets containing multimodal violence events with video-level labels. Many prior works perform audio-visual integration and interaction in an early or intermediate manner, yet overlooking the modality heterogeneousness over the weakly-supervised setting. In this paper, we analyze the modality asynchrony and undifferentiated instances phenomena of the multiple instance learning (MIL) procedure, and further investigate its negative impact on weakly-supervised audio-visual learning. To address these issues, we propose a modality-aware contrastive instance learning with self-distillation (MACIL-SD) strategy. Specifically, we leverage a lightweight two-stream network to generate audio and visual bags, in which unimodal background, violent, and normal instances are clustered into semi-bags in an unsupervised way. Then audio and visual violent semi-bag representations are assembled as positive pairs, and violent semi-bags are combined with background and normal instances in the opposite modality as contrastive negative pairs. Furthermore, a self-distillation module is applied to transfer unimodal visual knowledge to the audio-visual model, which alleviates noises and closes the semantic gap between unimodal and multimodal features. Experiments show that our framework outperforms previous methods with lower complexity on the large-scale XD-Violence dataset. This paper delves into an integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) system bolstered by a simultaneously transmitting and reflecting reconfigurable intelligent surface (STAR-RIS). Within this system, a base station (BS) is equipped with communication and radar capabilities, enabling it to communicate with ground terminals (GTs) and concurrently probe for echo signals from a target of interest. Moreover, to manage interference and improve communication quality, the rate splitting multiple access (RSMA) scheme is incorporated into the system. The signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) of the received sensing echo signals is a measure of sensing performance. We formulate a joint optimization problem of common rates, transmit beamforming at the BS, and passive beamforming vectors of the STAR-RIS. The objective is to maximize sensing SINR while guaranteeing the communication rate requirements for each GT. We present an iterative algorithm to address the non-convex problem by invoking Dinkelbach’s transform, semidefinite relaxation (SDR), majorization-minimization, and sequential rank-one constraint relaxation (SROCR) theories. Simulation results manifest that the performance of the studied ISAC network enhanced by the STAR-RIS and RSMA surpasses other benchmarks considerably. The results evidently indicate the superior performance improvement of the ISAC system with the proposed RSMA-based transmission strategy design and the dynamic optimization of both transmission and reflection beamforming at STAR-RIS. © 2024, CC BY.

The growing demand for location-based services in areas like virtual reality, robot control, and navigation has intensified the focus on indoor localization. Visible light positioning (VLP), leveraging visible light communications (VLC), becomes a promising indoor positioning technology due to its high accuracy and low cost. This paper provides a comprehensive survey of VLP systems. In particular, since VLC lays the foundation for VLP, we first present a detailed overview of the principles of VLC. Then, we provide an in-depth overview of VLP algorithms. The performance of each positioning algorithm is also compared in terms of various metrics such as accuracy, coverage, and orientation limitation. Beyond the physical layer studies, the network design for a VLP system is also investigated, including multi-access technologies, resource allocation, and light-emitting diode (LED) placements. Next, the applications of the VLP systems are overviewed. Finally, this paper outlines open issues, challenges, and opportunities for the research field. In a nutshell, this paper constitutes the first holistic survey on VLP from state-of-the-art studies to practical uses. © 1998-2012 IEEE.
