The detection of vital signs, especially respiratory rate and heartbeat rate, is of great significance for clinical diagnosis, daily health assessment and disaster rescue. In recent years, millimeter wave based non-contact vital sign detection has become a research hotspot. Aiming to overcome the noise influence of the target signal on the detection accuracy, one improved ICEEMDAN based on sample entropy (ICCEMDAN-SpEn) combined with wavelet threshold denoising is proposed. Firstly, the adaptive noise extraction ability of ICEEMDAN is analyzed to isolate all intrinsic mode function (IMF) components of the noisy target signals, and the sample entropy is introduced as the threshold to select the main IMFs; then wavelet threshold denoising is proposed to relieve the noise adaptively, which can better deal with the nonlinear and non-stationary signal; finally, IMFs after wavelet threshold denoising are reconstructed to attain target signals. The experimental results show that the proposed method can effectively relieve the noise contained in the vital sign signals and estimate the respiratory rate and heartbeat rate of human body accurately.

Class activation mapping (CAM) is a post-hoc explanation method for Convolutional neural networks (CNNs), aiming to visually explain the decision-making process of CNNs. CAM demonstrates superior categorical discrimination capabilities compared to visual explanation methods rooted in backpropagation and perturbation. Five CAM methods have been comprehensively analyzed and discussed, revealing their applications in explaining CNN decision-making. Additionally, the evaluation principles and metrics for CAM and other explainable methods are summarized. A comparative analysis highlights their characteristics, applicability, and inherent limitations. Finally, the challenges faced by CAM methods in the field of explainable research are explored, and future development trends are anticipated.

Generation Maintenance Scheduling for Power Systems Considering the Risk Quantification of Hybrid Uncertainty

The accurate quantification of risk caused by uncertainty forms a crucial foundation for formulating the generation maintenance scheduling (GMS) of power systems. However, the probability distribution functions (PDFs) of uncertain variables such as wind power and load are challenging to model accurately or are unknown, which makes it difficult to measure their economic risk and formulate appropriate GMS for power systems. To address this issue, we consider hybrid uncertainty from wind power and load, and propose a novel interval-probabilistic worst conditional value-at-risk (IP-WCVaR)-based generation maintenance scheduling method. Firstly, a novel IP-WCVaR method is proposed to measure the risk of the interval and probabilistic hybrid uncertainty, and the analytical mathematical model of the IP-WCVaR is derived through typical scenarios of probability correction. On this basis, the positive and negative spinning reserve models are established using the IP-WCVaR and then integrated into the GMS model, which enhances the resilience of the power system. Finally, the new risk-averse GMS model is formulated as the lower and upper boundary optimal models, which are transformed into tractable mixed integer linear programming problems based on the interval extreme value theory. The effectiveness and superiority of the proposed IP-WCVaR method are verified on the modified IEEE 24-bus and IEEE 118-bus power systems. © 1969-2012 IEEE.

Deep perception of the unmanned surface vehicle's surroundings is an inaccessible part of its fully autonomous navigation mission. The existing methods, whether based on traditional stereo matching or deep learning, do not fully consider the characteristics of water environment, resulting in severe error depths in weak textures (sky, calm lake) and water reflections regions, that increases the risk of running aground or collision. What is worse that there is not a public dataset for depth estimation in the water environment. Therefore, this work proposes a self-supervised model for depth estimation named Water Depth Perception Network (WDNet) to address these problems. The decoder of this network has a wider receptive field and can effectively handle the depth error in the weak texture region. Besides, the WDNet is trained with a novel and effective loss function which assist the network to reduce errors in sky and water region, and some indexes are proposed to evaluate the model's performances in sky and water region. Finally, our proposed WDNet achieves a 0.1056 absolute relative error in ranging, the average number of error pixels in the sky area drops from 15803.87 to 580.91, which only accounted for 0.29% of the image, and the error in water region drops from 51.04 to 6.75, all of them are superior to the performance of baseline model.

The piezoelectric actuator is one kind of device that can drive nanoscale motion. However, the nonlinear hysteresis effect induced by its natural material greatly degrades its positioning accuracy. To handle this challenging issue, this work develops a Koopman model predict control (Koopman- MPC) framework for the piezoelectric actuator. Specifically, the Koopman operator theory is adapted for modeling the piezoelectric actuator dynamics. A simple yet powerful linear model spanned in a high-dimensional space is thus constructed to characterize the hysteresis dynamics. Subsequently, upon the established Koopman model, an MPC scheme is put forward for tracking control of piezoelectric actuators. Therein, by sustained optimizing a cost function containing future outputs and control increments, the control input is obtained. Moreover, extensive tracking simulations are carried out on a simulated piezoelectric actuator for verifying the feasibility and effectiveness of the Koopman- Mpc scheme.

In view of the problems of high energy consumption, long inventory time and low production efficiency in the production process of traditional aluminum extrusion machine, this paper establishes an efficient two-stage parallel scheduling optimization model based on the integration of flexible job shop scheduling and assembly sequence planning (IFJSS-ASP). On this basis, an evolutionary algorithm combining strong dominance relationship and simple grouping method (SDREA-SGM) is proposed. The algorithm utilizes a two-stage hybrid chromosome encoding and decoding method to establish a rational mapping from the decision space to the solution space. Furthermore, in order to prevent the model from easily falling into local optima, an adaptive intra-class and inter-class pairing selection strategy has been adopted by the algorithm. This enhances global search and improves local search flexibility. Finally, the feasibility and effectiveness of the algorithm are verified by solving problems of different scales.

As one of the extremely important components on the transmission tower, the insulator has two functions of electrical insulation and wire fixing, which directly affects the operation of the power system. Defects in insulators can impair the service life of transmission lines. UAV aerial photography of electric power towers has problems such as small number of defective insulator samples, small area, large aspect ratio of insulator strings, and variable inclination angle, coupled with the influence of environmental factors such as light, interference, distance, etc., which lead to low detection accuracy of insulator defects. Aiming at the above problems, an improved YOLOv5 insulator defect detection algorithm is proposed. First, screen the aerial images and use data augmentation to obtain a sufficient number of defective insulator images to enrich the dataset and avoid model overfitting. Secondly, the convolutional attention module CBAM is introduced to improve the expression ability of defect insulator features and strengthen the network's ability to identify targets. Finally, the Leaky ReLU activation function of the hidden layer of the original YOLOv5 algorithm is replaced by the Mish function to improve the generalization ability of the network. The experimental results show that compared with the original YOLOv5 algorithm, the average precision mAP (IOU=0.5) of the improved algorithm is increased by 7.8%, which effectively improves the problems of false detection and missed detection in the original algorithm. Compared with other mainstream object detection algorithms, the algorithm proposed in this paper has better detection effect on insulator defects. © 2022 SPIE.

Non-intrusive load monitoring (NILM) estimates the energy usage of individual devices by analyzing the total power meter data from a household. To address the issue of decreased monitoring accuracy with an increasing number of electricity meters, this paper proposes a solution for single appliance load monitoring (Tra-CNN). The solution uses the UK-DALE dataset, which contains high and low frequencies electricity consumption data of multiple households in the UK and the electricity consumption data of each household appliance, and uses the active power of the appliance as the input of the algorithm. The first part of the model consists of a convolutional layer, a normalization layer, and a dropout layer, with the primary task of capturing local dependencies in the data. The second part consists of a Transformer, whose self-attention mechanism associates features at different positions in the sequence to achieve modeling of long-term dependencies. The third part introduces a convolutional neural network, which uses a sliding window for convolution operations to extract local features from different positions and further extract features from sequence data. The final decoder consists of a transposed convolutional layer and a normalization layer, designed to revert the learned features to their original dimensions. Through experimental verification, the effectiveness and superiority of Tra-CNN are shown, which provides important ideas and methods for the further development of NILM technology.

Due to difficulties in observing crystal state and the high cost of crystal preparation, the teaching of the Czochralski single crystal silicon production is complex. To solve the above problem, a digital twins-inspired virtual simulation system for the growth of single crystal silicon was developed. The 3D models of the single crystal furnace, single crystal silicon rods, and other related objects were created using Blender. The nonlinear model of the single crystal silicon growth process was established based on the heat conduction during crystal growth and geometric deformation. The 3D models were then imported into the web page using ***. The PID control algorithm was used to control the temperature and pulling speed, and finally, the B/S architecture was adopted to design and implement the virtual simulation experiment system for the growth of Czochralski single crystal silicon. The virtual simulation method will help to overcome the shortcomings of on-site experiment teaching and enhance students’ understanding of the entire single crystal silicon preparation process.
