The study presents a general framework for discovering underlying Partial Differential Equations (PDEs) using measured spatiotemporal data. The method, called Sparse Spatiotemporal System Discovery (S3d), decides which physical terms are necessary and which can be removed (because they are physically negligible in the sense that they do not affect the dynamics too much) from a pool of candidate functions. The method is built on the recent development of Sparse Bayesian Learning;which enforces the sparsity in the to-be-identified PDEs, and therefore can balance the model complexity and fitting error with theoretical guarantees. Without leveraging prior knowledge or assumptions in the discovery process, we use an automated approach to discover ten types of PDEs, including the famous Navier-Stokes and sine-Gordon equations, from simulation data alone. Moreover, we demonstrate our data-driven discovery process with the Complex Ginzburg-Landau Equation (CGLE) using data measured from a traveling-wave convection experiment. Our machine discovery approach presents solutions that has the potential to inspire, support and assist physicists for the establishment of physical laws from measured spatiotemporal data, especially in notorious fields that are often too complex to allow a straightforward establishment of physical law, such as biophysics, fluid dynamics, neuroscience or nonlinear optics. In industrial applications, nearly half the failures of motors are caused by the degradation of rolling element bearings (REBs). Therefore, accurately estimating the remaining useful life (RUL) for REBs is of crucial importance to ensure the reliability and safety of mechanical systems. To tackle this challenge, model-based approaches are limited by the complexity of mathematical modeling. Conventional data-driven approaches, on the other hand, require massive efforts to extract the degradation features and construct the health index. In this paper, a novel data-driven framework is proposed to exploit the adoption of deep convolutional neural networks (CNN) in predicting the RULs of bearings. More concretely, raw vibrations of training bearings are first processed using the Hilbert-Huang transform to construct a novel nonlinear degradation energy indicator which can be used as the training label. The CNN is then employed to identify the hidden pattern between the extracted degradation energy indicator and the raw vibrations of training bearings, which makes it possible to estimate the degradation of the test bearings automatically. Finally, testing bearings’ RULs are predicted through using a ǫ-support vector regression model. The superior performance of the proposed RUL estimation framework, compared with the state-of-the-art approaches, is demonstrated through the experimental results. The generality of the proposed CNN model is also validated by performance test on other bearings undergoing different operating conditions. Copyright © 2018, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Cilin is one of the most popular semantic knowledge bases in Chinese information processing. Due to its coding scheme and taxonomical arrangement, some semantic relations among words are not explicitly shown. Our work aims to characterize its semantic relations by adding tags and compound codes to optimize the taxonomy and hierarchy of Cilin. Experiment results show that using the tag-augmented Cilin as a knowledge base improves the performance in the task of semantic similarity measurement.

As an important visual characteristic,color has been widely applied in content based image *** paper adopted the RGB color model,wherein intersection distance method,Euclidean distance method and correlation distance method based on color histogram characteristics were applied respectively in the experiments of the same sample image and the same image *** results show that the three algorithms could retrieve the sample image accurately,wherein the histogram intersection algorithm completed the retrieval most quickly;the Euclidean distance method based on simple theories can be understood easily;and the correlation distance method had the lowest recall *** experimental results have certain guidance and reference values for selecting and optimizing the content based image retrieval algorithm.

This paper proposes a seam carving algorithm based on saliency. This algorithm makes saliency detection to the source image. images are classified according to the gray-scale of saliency detection. Adding different energy protection methods, it can protect the foreground area of a subject and detailed areas of the edge. Then the cumulative energy map is calculated. According to the principle of deleting the minimum energy pixel, single pixel-wide carves chosen to be deleted or copied. The experimental result shows that the algorithm avoids image restoration caused by extracting too many pixels in saliency area and non equal-ratio scaling. It reduces the deformed structures caused by displacement of edge pixel and also improves the integrity of algorithm. © Springer International Publishing AG 2018.

Analogical China map constructed by single-stranded DNA tiles assembly

In the past nearly two decades, DNA self-assembly technology as a promising technology, a body of laboratory work has been emerged in an endless stream. Single-stranded DNA tile (SST) assembly provides a simple, modular and robust framework for constructing nanostructures with prescribed shapes from short synthetic DNA strands. In this research, we present a nanoscale DNA structure of analogical China map which is constructed by a number of SSTs, and label streptavidin in the capital beijing location. The constructing nanostructure is roughly 98 nm×67 nm in diameter with a spatial resolution of 3 nm×7 nm. The pattern appeared in atomic force microscopy (AFM) conforms to the pre-designed shape of Chinese map with the approximately expected dimensions, and AFM images of the field selected randomly from the mica give an 11% assembly yield. Through this research, the capability of constructing complicated two-dimensional shapes by SST and the controllability of the internal array are fully vindicated. With the development of artificial intelligence technology, robotics technology has become more and more mature. Ground walking robots not only develop rapidly, but also have been applied in actual production and life. However, the development of wall climbing robot technology is still in the laboratory research and small-scale application. We live in a world where progress is continuing. Large-scale buildings, bridges and ships are becoming more and more common. In these places, it is inevitable to involve the construction, maintenance and clarity of high-rise buildings and ships. In the case of dangerous and inefficient manpower work, the application of wall climbing robots can play a very good role. Therefore, the development of wall climbing robots is of vital importance both now and in the future. Starting from the performance characteristics of wall climbing robot, this paper studies and summarizes the moving mode, control mode, conditions to be satisfied and various adsorption forms of wall climbing robot, and introduces the basic research situation in the field of wall climbing robot.

This paper addresses the robust reliable guaranteed cost control problem of positive interval systems with multiple time delays and actuator failure for a given quadratic cost function. Through constructing a Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional, a sufficient condition for the existence of robust reliable guaranteed cost controllers is established such that the closed-loop system is positive and asymptotically stable, and the cost function is guaranteed to be no more than a certain upper bound. Based on the linear matrix inequality method, a criterion for the design of robust reliable guaranteed cost controllers is derived which can tolerate all admissible uncertainties as well as actuator failure. Moreover, a convex optimisation problem with linear matrix inequality constraints is formulated to design the optimal robust reliable guaranteed cost controller which minimises the upper bound of the closed-loop system cost. A numerical example is given to show the effectiveness of the proposed methods. © 2014 Taylor & Francis.

An ACO-based online routing method for multiple order pickers with congestion consideration in warehouse

One of the challenging problems in order picking is how to deal with the congestion happens in warehouse with multiple pickers. In this paper, we consider an ant colony optimization (ACO)-based online routing method to find picking routes for multiple order pickers under nondeterministic picking time. Here, a default route is formed by ACO for each single picker. Then, we coordinate these routes to alleviate congestion by dedicated rules based on indoor positioning and information sharing technologies, during order pickers serve the picking task. Our results indicate that the proposed method can achieve a reduction in the order service time primarily by coping with the congestion. We conclude that the new method is particularly effective in multiple-block picker-to-parts warehouses. © 2014, Springer Science+Business Media New York.
