Tracking the same person across multiple cameras is an important task in multi-camera systems. It is also desirable to re-identify the individuals who have been previously seen with a single-camera. This paper addresses this problem by the re-identification of the same individual in two different datasets, which are both challenging situations from video surveillance system. In this paper, local descriptors are introduced for image description, and support vector machines are employed for high classification performance and so an efficient Bag of Features approach for image presentation. In this way, robustness against low resolution, occlusion and pose, viewpoint and illumination changes is achieved in a very fast way. We get promising results from the evaluation with situations where a number of individuals vary continuously from a multi-camera system.

In the process of billet detection and recognition, the self-adaptability research of billet character segmentation in the complex scene is a highly complicated intelligence problem. On account of a good many of factors, such as the uneven ends of billet, the rusty billets, the non-standard printed characters and so on, the irregular characters at ends of steel billet may be connected and broken. Improper segmentation of connected and broken characters will lead the characters distorted directly and then impact on the recognition results. In view of these complex factors, a segmentation algorithm based on self-adaptability decision is proposed to improve the segmentation self-adaptability in this paper. The segmentation experimental results show that the proposed algorithm divides the billet characters in the complex scene accurately and improves the self-adaptability of character segmentation.

In this paper, we propose a new method for remote sensing image pan-sharpening which is based on weighted red-black (WRB) wavelet and adaptive principal component analysis (PCA), where the adaptive PCA is used to reduce spectral distortions and the utilization of WRB wavelet is used to extract the spatial details in PAN images. To reduce the artifacts and spectral distortions in the pan-sharpened images, which were caused by the local instabilities and dissimilarities in the PAN and MS images, a local process strategy incorporating detail enhancement is introduced. The proposed method is tested on two datasets both acquired by QuickBird and compared with the existing methods. Experimental results show that our method can provide promising fused MS images at a high spatial resolution.

In this paper we propose a watermarking based two-stage authentication framework to enhance biometric system security. The face feature of one individual is embedded into his/her fingerprint image as credibility token. During authentication, the watermark is first extracted to establish data authenticity. If legitimate, the face pattern can further serve as supplemental trait in biometric authentication progress. A wavelet quantization based watermarking method is proposed to robustly embed information in fingerprints while preserving their discriminating features. Meanwhile, a sparse representation based classifier is adopted to efficiently exploit the identity information within face watermarks. Experimental results which evaluate both watermarking and biometric authentication performance demonstrate the effectiveness of this work.

In this work, a novel local spline smoothing-based approach is proposed in order to despeckling medical ultrasound images. For better comparison, firstly nine conventional statistical spatial filters were applied on the ultrasound images and the results evaluated by quantitative indices of contrast to noise ratio (CNR) and speckle signal to noise ratio (SSNR). Secondly, one-dimensional cubic spline smoothing (1DCSS) function was applied on the whole speckled image as the first proposed approach. Finally, as the second proposed approach, 1DCSS was applied locally on the sliding windows of the ultrasound image then conventional statistical spatial filters were applied. The results indicate that the proposed approaches outperform the existing conventional ones.
