Protein-Protein Interaction (PPI) provides important insights into the metabolic mechanisms of different biological processes. Although PPIs in some organisms have been investigated systematically, PPIs in the ocean archaea remain largely unexplored. But such species have special investigation value since their adaptation to extreme living conditions may generate unique PPIs. In this paper, we aim to characterize and predict PPIs in ocean archaea to advance understanding of their metabolic networks. First, we collect all ocean archaea PPIs with high confidence from STRING database and analyze the PPI network features, including centrality and enrichment analysis. The functional enrichment results of the largest connecting subgraph in the PPI network show most PPIs in our constructed dataset is related to the translation and transcription processes. Then, we generate an equal number of negative PPI pairs, whose members have either different subcellular locations or GO terms. We also use the generated dataset to test the performance of three pretraining methods and their ensemble methods in the binary PPI prediction task. Our results suggest the ensemble methods could be applied to further improve models’ performance. Fine-tuned models trained on the ocean archaea dataset are expected to predict the other ocean archaea PPIs that are not included in the STRING database and get more understanding about the ocean archaea PPI universe.

Insulator defects can lead to insulation performance degradation and structural damage, affecting the regular operation of the power transmission and transformation system. It is important to Detect anomalies promptly, which can help prevent such accidents to the greatest extent possible. Temperature is one of the key indicators of the condition of insulators, and infrared thermal imaging technology is widely applied, which can detect latent defects in insulators. One of the critical parameters for infrared temperature measurement is target distance. However, infrared cameras cannot set distance parameters for different targets within an image, which presents challenges for inspecting multiple insulator strings based on one image. This paper proposes a multi-distance parameter temperature correction method based on monocular distance measurement algorithms to solve the problem. First, this paper uses a monocular distance measurement model to get the distance automatically. Then, this paper proposes a temperature-distance correction method to correct the temperature. Finally, re-image with the corrected temperature. The test results show that the average temperature correction is 0.6K, indicating that the correction is non-negligible. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

Game-based Secondary control for DC Microgrids with Nash Equilibrium

Voltage regulation and current sharing are two major issues when designing distributed control strategies for DC microgrids. However, power supply economy of local generators also needs to be considered. In this paper, a game-based framework is constructed, where multiple generators are regarded as the participants with secondary control signals being the game actions. A distributed secondary control algorithm is proposed, while information mask is introduced to avoid transmitting true control signal to neighbors. Then, payoff function is designed for each generator, which is composed of voltage regulation error, current sharing error and the local generation cost. It is proved that under the proposed secondary control algorithm in conjunction with the payoff function, a unique Nash equilibrium can be reached. Consequently, the minimum of the payoff function can be achieved, where the optimization of system control behavior and local economic operation can be realized simultaneously. Numerical simulations and experimental tests are carried out to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed secondary control strategy within several scenarios. © 1986-2012 IEEE.

The coded Aperture Snapshot Spectral Imaging (CASSI) system has great advantages in dynamically acquiring Hyper-Spectral image (HSI) compared to traditional measurement methods, but there are the following problems. 1) Traditional mask relies on random patterns or analytical design, both of which limit the performance improvement of CASSI. 2) Existing high-quality reconstruction algorithms are slow in reconstruction and can only reconstruct scene information offline. To address the above two problems, this paper introduces an RGB camera with CASSI based on Adaptive-Mask as multimodal input to improve the reconstruction quality. The existing SOTA reconstruction schemes are based on the transformer, but the operation of self-attention pulls down the operation efficiency of the network. To improve the inference speed of the reconstruction network, this paper proposes An MLP Architecture for Adaptive-Mask-based Dual-Camera (MLP-AMDC) to replace the transformer structure of the network. Numerous experiments have shown that MLP performs no less well than transformer-based structures for HSI reconstruction, while MLP greatly improves the network inference speed and has less number of parameters and operations, our method has an 8 dB improvement over SOTA and at least a 5-fold improvement in reconstruction speed. Mixture-of-Experts for Open Set Domain Adaptation: A Dual-Space Detection Approach

Open Set Domain Adaptation (OSDA) copes with the distribution and label shifts between the source and target domains simultaneously, performing accurate classification for known classes while identifying unknown class samples in the target domain. Most existing OSDA approaches, depending on the final image feature space of deep models, require manually-tuned thresholds, and may easily misclassify unknown samples as known classes. Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) could be a remedy. Within an MoE, different experts handle distinct input features, producing unique expert routing patterns for various classes in a routing feature space. As a result, unknown class samples may display different expert routing patterns to known classes. This paper proposes Dual-Space Detection, which exploits the inconsistencies between the image feature space and the routing feature space to detect unknown class samples without any threshold. A Graph Router is further introduced to better make use of the spatial information among the image patches. Experiments on three datasets validated the effectiveness and superiority of our approach. © 2020 IEEE.

With the extensive deployment of traffic cameras across cities, utilizing these devices for vehicle detection has become essential for efficient traffic management. However, variations in vehicle sizes and distances between vehicles and cameras lead to inconsistent scaling of vehicles in the images, which presents a challenge for feature extraction. Furthermore, conventional object detection algorithms fail to fully utilize the rich feature information across multiple layers. To solve these issues, we develop a novel and advanced multi-scale traffic YOLO (MT-YOLO), based on the YOLOv8 model. Firstly, we propose the spatial multi-scale (SMS) attention mechanism to improve the extraction capability of spatial multi-scale vehicle features and aggregate these features for dynamic spatial modulation. Secondly, we develop the multi-scale dilation transposition CARAFE (MDT-CARAFE) upsampling method, which utilizes dilated convolutions to enhance the receptive field at different scales during the upsampling process. Lastly, we augment the network with a detection head and replace the original detection head with the adaptively spatial feature fusion(ASFF) detection head, which dynamically selects and fuses multi-layer feature maps, enabling the network to better capture multi-scale information. Our experiments demonstrate that the MT-YOLO model greatly improves results on the traffic camera detection dataset., achieving an mAP@0.5 of 80.9%, with a precision of 92% and recall of 93%. These results surpass the performance of leading detection algorithms. In addition, the model takes only 12.5 milliseconds to complete an inference, which makes it highly deployable and valuable for real-world applications. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

Most proposed memristor-based circuits of associative memory consider various mechanisms in only one associative memory. Few works on circuit design of sequential associative memory have been reported. In this paper, a memristor-based circuit of sequential associative memory with memory interactions and stimulus similarity effect is designed. Two associative memories, the prior associative memory (PAM) and the later associative memory (LAM), are formed successively. The PAM modifies the rate of the formation of the LAM, and the LAM, in turn, affects the strength of the PAM, which are two interactions in sequential associative memory, called transfer and retroaction. In addition, the magnitudes of transfer and retroaction are determined by the similarity of the conditioned stimuli. The above functions are realized by the ring input processing module, memory module, transfer module and retroaction module. It has been identified in circuit analysis that the proposed circuit is power efficient and has good robustness. Furthermore, the proposed circuit has promising applications for fire rescue robots. © 2016 IEEE.

Evolutionary attraction–repulsion algorithm embedded with LLM for UAV task allocation

Labor division provides an adaptive and scalable technique for unmanned systems. However, its designing process usually relies heavily on the manually crafted paradigms, leading to inefficiencies and insufficient performance. To overcome these challenges, this paper introduce an evolutionary approach to labor division algorithm design. Drawing inspiration from the regulatory behaviors observed in natural lion populations, we propose a bipolar feedback-guided attraction–repulsion mechanism. A formal model is developed to encapsulate this mechanism, and we provide an in-depth analysis of the algorithm's evolution through the framework of systems science. In addition, we leverage prompt engineering techniques to integrate a large language model (LLM) with our proposed mechanism, facilitating a bidirectional enhancement between the two. This integration culminates in the development of the ARE-LLM framework, a robust and adaptive solution for designing labor division algorithms. To demonstrate the practical applicability of our approach, we apply the ARE-LLM framework to the UAV-based task allocation problem for enemy air defense suppression. The experimental results indicate that our method outperforms several advanced approaches. In a scenario involving 50 UAVs tasked with completing 300 assignments, the total distance traveled is only 9 % of that required by the ALPDA algorithm, while the processing time is reduced to 8 % of that used by ALPDA. © 2025 Elsevier Ltd

Amplified emission and lasing enabled by high-Q quasi-bound states in asymmetric dielectric metasurfaces via eigenfield perturbation

Symmetry-protected bound states in the continuum represent a distinct class of nonradiative modes in continuous media. By introducing asymmetric parameters into a symmetric metasurface, the inherent symmetry can be broken, transforming BICs—originally decoupled from external radiation channels—into high-Q quasi-BICs with controlled radiation capabilities. However, manufacturing constraints pose a significant challenge in fabricating nanostructures with ultra-small asymmetric parameters, thereby limiting the achievable Q-factor. In this work, we propose an asymmetric perforated metasurface structure that supports BICs. When the perforations are shifted along the x or y axis to a specific position, the linewidth vanishes, and simulations confirm the emergence of a BIC in the system, with a quality factor reaching up to 10⁹. Furthermore, we demonstrate that selective eigenmode perturbation can effectively transform BICs into practical quasi-BICs. Notably, for the same structure, perturbing the weak-field region yields higher Q-factors, offering a flexible approach to optimizing performance. This approach enables precise Q-factor control and enhanced radiation properties. Furthermore, we design a laser cavity structure based on these quasi-BICs, achieving amplified emission and lasing with excellent agreement between simulations and theoretical predictions. These findings expand the BIC library and offer new methods for Q-factor manipulation, paving the way for high-performance optoelectronic devices such as nanolasers, biosensors, and nonlinear harmonic generators. © 2025 Optica Publishing Group under the terms of the Optica Open Access Publishing Agreement.

C2P-Net: Comprehensive Depth Map to Planar Depth Conversion for Room Layout Estimation

Room layout estimation seeks to infer the overall spatial configuration of indoor scenes using perspective or panoramic images. As the layout is determined by the dominant indoor planes, this problem inherently requires the reconstruction of these planes. Some studies reconstruct indoor planes from perspective images by learning pixel-level or instance-level plane parameters. However, directly learning these parameters has the problems of susceptibility to occlusions and position dependency. In this paper, we introduce the Comprehensive depth map to Planar depth (C2P) conversion, which reformulates planar depth reconstruction into the prediction of a comprehensive depth map and planar visibility confidence. Based on the parametric representation of planar depth we propose, the C2P conversion is applicable to both panoramic and perspective images. Accordingly, we present an effective framework for room layout estimation that jointly learns the comprehensive depth map and planar visibility confidence. Due to the differentiability of the C2P conversion, our network autonomously learns planar visibility confidence by constraining the estimated plane parameters and reconstructed planar depth map. We further propose a novel approach for 3D layout generation through sequential planar depth map integration. Experimental results demonstrate the superiority of our method across all evaluated panoramic and perspective datasets. © 1979-2012 IEEE.
