Electroencephalogram (EEG)-based seizure sub-type classification enhances clinical diagnosis efficiency. Source-free semi-supervised domain adaptation (SF-SSDA), which transfers a pre-trained model to a new dataset with no source data and limited labeled target data, can be used for privacy-preserving seizure subtype classification. This paper considers two challenges in SF-SSDA for EEG-based seizure subtype classification: 1) How to effectively fuse both raw EEG data and expert knowledge in classifier design? 2) How to align the source and target domain distributions for SF-SSDA? We propose a Knowledge-Data Fusion based SF-SSDA approach, KDF-MutuaISHOT, for EEG-based seizure subtype classification. In source model training, KDF uses Jensen-Shannon Diver-gence to facilitate mutual learning between a feature-driven Decision Tree-based model and a data-driven Transformer-based model. To adapt KDF to a new target dataset, an SF-SSDA algorithm, MutualSHOT, is developed, which features a consistency-based pseudo-label selection strategy. Experiments on the public TUSZ and CHSZ datasets demonstrated that KDF-MutualSHOT outperformed other supervised and source-free domain adaptation approaches in cross-subject seizure subtype classification.

Despite diffusion models having shown powerful abilities to generate photorealistic images, generating videos that are realistic and diverse still remains in its infancy. One of the key reasons is that current methods intertwine spatial content and temporal dynamics together, leading to a notably increased complexity of text-to-video generation (T2V). In this work, we propose HiGen, a diffusion model-based method that improves performance by decoupling the spatial and temporal factors of videos from two perspectives, i.e., structure level and content level. At the structure level, we decompose the T2V task into two steps, including spatial reasoning and temporal reasoning, using a unified denoiser. Specifically, we generate spatially coherent priors using text during spatial reasoning and then generate temporally coherent motions from these priors during temporal reasoning. At the content level, we extract two subtle cues from the content of the input video that can express motion and appearance changes, respectively. These two cues then guide the model's training for generating videos, enabling flexible content variations and enhancing temporal stability. Through the decoupled paradigm, HiGen can effectively reduce the complexity of this task and generate realistic videos with semantics accuracy and motion stability. Extensive experiments demonstrate the superior performance of HiGen over the state-of-the-art T2V methods. We have released our source code and models.

The multi-stack fuel cell system (MFCS) is an important basis for the application of solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) technology to large-scale power generation systems. MFCS can provide higher power, longer lifetime and better reliability. Different from the single-stack fuel cell system (SFCS), there may be some inconsistencies among the stacks in the MFCS. If the inconsistencies are ignored, they will significantly affect the lifetime of the MFCS. This study focuses on the lifetime extension of multi-stack SOFC power generation systems with inconsistent stacks. Since the multi-stack system of SOFC generally cannot control the flow rate of each stack respectively, it brings a difficulty to the control of the MFCS with inconsistencies among the stacks. In order to overcome this difficulty, this paper built a multi-stack SOFC system model, which can characterize the degradation and inconsistencies among SOFC stacks. And then designed a power distribution strategy based on fuzzy control to extend the lifetime of the MFCS. The strategy was verified by simulations. The simulation results show that the strategy can effectively control the inconsistencies among the stacks and significantly extend the lifetime of the MFCS. © 2023 Technical Committee on control Theory, Chinese Association of Automation.

This study aims to deeply explore the impact of mobile edge computing based on extended reality technology on the multi-person linkage of the Zhijiang Peace Culture Memorial Hall under the immersive experience. In the part of research background and significance, it discusses the rise of the application of XR technology in the field of culture and education, emphasizing the importance of education on the history of revolution and its value in the social sense. Then, it expounds the core topic of this research aimed at integrating XR technology with education on the history of revolution, and presenting visitors with more realistic and immersive historical scenes by creating an immersive experience of multi-person linkage. The use of these technologies enables visitors to transcend time and space barriers, directly participate in historical events, and deeply appreciate the intrinsic value of red culture. In order to achieve multi-person linkage, this study adopts mobile edge computing technology to ensure that multiple visitors can realize real-time interaction in the virtual scene and jointly build a collective experience of the Metaverse. This research has achieved positive results in the fields of XR technology application, education on the history of revolution, and mobile edge computing. DNA has been used to construct a variety of nanoscale thermometers due to its unique thermodynamic properties. It has proven to be one of the most promising, yet challenging aspects of DNA-based thermometers, to obtain significant signal changes when the temperature changes slightly. Here, we propose a strategy to construct nanoscale thermometers with sensitive temperature responses based on DNA triplex. The thermometers consist of a CT-rich DNA strand and stabilizing strands, whose conformations vary with temperature. By adjusting the sequence design or introducing mismatch bases in stabilizing strands, the temperature response interval of the thermometer can be reduced to 7 ∘C, which lead to higher sensitivity compared to the interval of 12–15 ∘C for conventional designs. The temperature responses of the thermometer are characterized by fluorescence experiments. The fluorescence kinetics experiments demonstrate the good repeatability. The design of the nanothermometer will be helpful for constructing advanced nanosystem with sensitive temperature responses as well as long service times. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Recently, many compression algorithms are applied to decrease the cost of video storage and transmission. This will introduce undesirable artifacts, which severely degrade visual quality. Therefore, Video Compression Artifacts Removal (VCAR) aims at reconstructing a high-quality video from its corrupted version of compression. Generally, this task is considered as a vision-related instead of media-related problem. In vision-related research, the visual quality has been significantly improved while the computational complexity and bitrate issues are less considered. In this work, we review the performance constraints of video coding and transfer to evaluate the VCAR outputs. Based on the analyses, we propose a Spatial-Temporal Attention-Guided Enhancement Network (STAGE-Net). First, we employ dynamic filter processing, instead of conventional optical flow method, to reduce the computational cost of VCAR. Second, we introduce self-attention mechanism to design Sequential Residual Attention Blocks (SRABs) to improve visual quality of enhanced video frames with bitrate constraints. Both quantitative and qualitative experimental results have demonstrated the superiority of our proposed method, which achieves high visual qualities and low computational costs. © 2023 IEEE.

Memristor crossbar array is considered as a promising circuit module for accelerating neural networks. Because the memristor is tunable and multi-state, it is important to design applicable Read-Write (RW) circuit for driving memristor crossbar array. In this paper, a novel RW circuit based on analog circuits is proposed for tuning memristors in high-dimensional array parallelly, which is scalable and low-overhead. The standalone RW circuit schematic is presented for reading/writing single memristor and verified in circuit simulation. Then, we extend and apply this circuit into a two-dimensional memristor crossbar array. The performance of memristor crossbar array controlled by designed RW circuits is verified via the simulations under various machine learning datasets. The comparison with related works is presented, which demonstrates the advantages of the proposed RW circuit regarding overhead and anti-error. © 2023 IEEE.

Nested Saturated control of Uncertain Complex Cascade Systems Using Mixed Saturation Levels

This study addresses the problem of global asymptotic stability for uncertain complex cascade systems composed of multiple integrator systems and non-strict feedforward nonlinear systems. To tackle the complexity inherent in such structures, a novel nested saturated control design is proposed that incorporates both constant saturation levels and state-dependent saturation levels. Specifically, a modified differentiable saturation function is proposed to facilitate the saturation reduction analysis of the uncertain complex cascade systems under the presence of mixed saturation levels. In addition, the design of modified differentiable saturation function will help to construct a hierarchical global convergence strategy to improve the robustness of control design scheme. Through calculation of relevant inequalities, time derivative of boundary surface and simple Lyapunov function,saturation reduction analysis and convergence analysis are carried out, and then a set of explicit parameter conditions are provided to ensure global asymptotic stability in the closed-loop systems. Finally, a simplified system of the mechanical model is presented to validate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

DNA origami is one of the powerful techniques that utilize DNA as building blocks to synthesize nanostructures. Traditionally, through introducing different numbers of insertions and deletions of base pairs in DNA helices, the in-plane bending angle of curved DNA structures could be roughly tuned. Here, we explored a strategy that used the position patterns of nicks in staple strands to tune the geometric conformation of curved DNA origami structures, including in-plane bending, out-of-plane bending, and twisting angles. When the structure adopted different patterns of nicks positions, great difference appeared in the geometric properties. Further, by combining subunits of different nicks position patterns, the bending and twisting of the combined structure was effectively tuned. The strategy increases the design accuracy of curved DNA origami structures and expands the toolbox for designing DNA structures. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

In order to improve the effectiveness of rehabilitation of stroke patients, active training can be used to treat and recover the patient's foot dyskinesia. Recognizing the different movement characteristics of the feet is an important part of the active rehabilitation of stroke patients. In this paper, the EMG signals of different movements of the right foot are classified and studied. The EMG signals of three different movement states of the foot resting state, foot stretched 15° and foot stretched 45° are collected, absolute mean and filter common space mode were used for feature extraction of EMG signal, and support vector machine (SVM) was used for classification and recognition after extraction. The experimental results show that the classification accuracy rate of resting state-foot-stretched 45° is 89.9%, which exceeds the classification accuracy rate of resting state-foot-stretched 15° of 86.8%. It shows that when the subjects stretch the foot at 45°, more motion units are activated and the characteristics are more obvious than when the feet are stretched at 15°. Therefore, by classifying the characteristics of EMG signals and identifying different autonomic movements of feet, it can be used as the basis for rehabilitation treatment of stroke patients. At the same time, the average classification accuracy of 15°-45 ° and the resting state-15 °-45 ° is above 80%, which confirms the feasibility of the signal processing method and support vector machine classification algorithm used in this paper for the study of automatic foot motion recognition. © 2022 ACM.
