Aiming at the problems of the relatively lower compression ratio and the difficulty in hardware implementation regarding Rice lossless compression algorithm for the Space-borne Remote-sensing images, an improved Rice method is proposed in which the length of predictor FIFO is determined by the size of input images and the global unicode for differences is used. The improved Rice algorithm is mainly composed of two steps, MED prediction for the whole row data and Rice global uniform entropy coding. The statistical results show that it can significantly reduce the spatial redundancy of the adjacent pixels and the mean value of image differences. The compression bit rate is reduced approximately 0.4581 bpp(bit/pixel) against the original Rice algorithm. Furthermore, the new way reserves the all detail information of the input images throughout the whole encoding process. Because we split the all samples with the same mode, the proportion of the identifier of the splitting mechanic in the output data stream is reduced and the compression ratio is increased. The improvement can reduce the encoding complexity and be easily implemented for hardware application. ©2010 IEEE.

The effect of stochastic acceleration and delay probability on the velocity and the gap between vehicles in traffic flow

This paper proposes a new combined cellular automaton （CA） model considering the driver behavior of stochastic acceleration and delay with the velocity of the preceding vehicle and the gap between the successive vehicles based on the WWH model and the noise-first NaSch model. It introduces the delay probability varying with the gap, adds the anticipation headway and increases the acceleration with a certain probability. Through these simulations, not only can the metastable state and start-stop wave be obtained but also the synchronized flow which the wide moving jam results in. Moreover, the effect of stochastic acceleration and delay on traffic flow is discussed by analyzing the correlation of traffic data. This indicates that synchronized flow easily emerges in the critical area between free flow and synchronized flow when acceleration and delay are synchronized or their probability is close to 0.5.

This paper presents a parallel artificial immune model termed as tower master-slave model (TMSM) for solving optimising problems. Based on TMSM, the parallel immune memory clonal selection algorithm (PIMCSA) is also proposed. TMSM is a two level coarse-grained parallel artificial immune model with distributed immune response and distributed immune memory. In PIMCSA, vaccines are extracted and migrated between populations rather than individual migration as has been done in parallel genetic algorithms. It is a good balance between population diversity and the convergent speed. Experimental results on the numerical optimization and TSP problems show that PIMCSA achieves good performance in terms of both solution quality and computation time. © 2009 IEEE.

GPSR-BB ( Gradient Projection for Sparse Reconstruction) algorithm is a popular CS (compressed sensing) reconstruction *** performs well for questions which have sparse *** approach is originally developed in the context of unconstrained minimization of a smooth nonlinear function F,and it uses the search direction of the Quasi-Newton method, So its shortcomings is the same as the Quasi-Newton method. For some reasons,the Hessen matrix of F can't be computed directly,it leads to a performance loss of the *** on GPSR-BB approach,a new gradient projection methods called CGSR-FR (Conjugate Gradient for Sparse Reconstruction) is proposed in this *** experiments show that CGSR-FR approache perform better than GPSR-BB approache in image compression sampling. ©2009 IEEE.

In this paper, an unsupervised SAR image segmentation algorithm (QEAGMM) based on quantum-inspired evolutionary Gaussian Mixture Models (GMM) is proposed. The method first divides the original image into small blocks. Then, the heterogeneous and homogeneous blocks are obtained using FCM clustering. Finally, the parameters of gaussian mixture model are trained by expectation-maximization (EM) algorithm using a part of homogeneous samples. However, the EM algorithm is apt to fall into a local optimum and the result is sensitive to initialization. So we embed the EM algorithm in quantum evolutionary algorithm (QEA) and propose a quantum-inspired-based EM algorithm (QEA-EM) to train the gaussian mixture model. This method not only improves the accuracy of parameters estimation but also performs better than immune clonal selection EM algorithm (ICSEM) on computational complexity. The experimental results show that compared to gaussian mixture model clustering algorithm (GMMC), the proposed method is successfully applied to texture mosaic images and SAR images, and shows overall improvement in performance. ©2009 IEEE.

In this paper, we present an improved prefactor function of the Helbing model based on the three-phase theory. The new prefactor function takes into account multi critical points in the transition of traffic flow to calculate the fluctuation of synchronized flow. Corresponding to the new function, the primary expressions of the Helbing model have been improved to reflect the complex property of the overlap region in the transition. Then we process the empirical data and calibrate all parameters of the new model by the method similar to the Helbing's. As demonstrated by various examples and empirical data, the new model has simulated traffic flow closer to reality than before. Copyright ASCE 2009.

This paper presents a strong noise image enhancement method based on intrascale dependencies of the second generation curvelet transform. Observing that the immediate four neighbor coefficients bear the most important dependencies, we use spatial clustering property of the intrascale neighbor coefficients to separate noise and signal of interest, and to deal with them differently, i.e. to suppress noise and strengthen edges. Comparing our approach with Starck's enhancement model (Starck et al., 2003), we experimentally find that for high noise level images, our method outperforms the starck's system in noise suppression and signal strengthening and produces better enhancement results. © 2009 Copyright SPIE - The International Society for Optical Engineering.

By inspiration of the granular evolutionary algorithm, a Granular Agent Evolutionary algorithm for Classification (GAEC) is proposed. The method uses the granular agent to denote the set of examples that have similar attributions and the knowledge base guides the evolutionary of granular agent. Also some granular evolutionary operators are designed for classification problem. Assimilation operator, exchange operator, and differentiation operator reflect the competitive, cooperative and self-learning ability of agent respectively. Finally, some classification rules are extracted from granular agents by some strategies to forecast the sort of new data. Empirical studies show that the algorithm has a good classification prediction, and only need a small price for the training time. In most UCI datasets, the performance of GAEC is better than G-NET, OCEC and C4.5, which have good performance.

By researching the Brushlet domain coefficients of texture images, we found that the distribution of the magnitudes of Brushlet domain coefficients roughly meet rayleigh distribution. And there are correlations between Brushlet coefficients in adjacent scales. Therefore, Rayleigh Mixture Model (RMM) is used to characterize the statistics of the magnitudes of Brushlet coefficients. To capture the inter-scale persistence of Brushlet coefficients, a "four to four" models with markov property is adopted in this paper. On the basis, by combining with the multi-scale Bayesian segmentation method, we propose a multiscale Bayesian texture segmentation algorithm that is based on a Brushlet domain hidden Markov tree (BruHMT) model. The experiment results indicate that our method is feasible and effective. Especially for coarse texture, our method is superior than texture segmentation method using Wavelet domain hidden Markov tree (WHMT) model. © 2009 Copyright SPIE - The International Society for Optical Engineering.

An edge-based region-of-interest (ROI) image coding technique is proposed for low bit-rate visual communication. An image is compactly coded into two semantic levels: background sketch and object textures. The background sketch is a down-sampled version of the input image. The decoder reconstructs the background first by adaptive interpolation and lets users identify the ROI, and then requests the ROI textures to be transmitted. A distinct advantage of the proposed ROI technique is a compact edge-based descriptor of natural object boundaries. The expensive ROI geometry computations are carried out at the encoder only on demand, keeping decoder complexity low to benefit wireless devices. The new system outperforms the dynamic ROI coding of JPEG 2000 in both visuality and PSNR. Furthermore, both background and texture coding can be made compliant with any existing compression standard.
