We present the design and fabrication of metamaterials, and investigated the power transmission properties of the metamaterials in the frequency ranging from 1.04THz to 4.25THz. The measured results reveal a global maximum transmission peak at 2.52THz. We compared measured power transmission performances of four types of metamaterials microstructures, and analyzed their transmission differences. © (2012) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

Generalization properties of hyper-RKHS and its applications

This paper generalizes regularized regression problems in a hyper-reproducing kernel Hilbert space (hyper-RKHS), illustrates its utility for kernel learning and out-of-sample extensions, and proves asymptotic convergence results for the introduced regression models in an approximation theory view. Algorithmically, we consider two regularized regression models with bivariate forms in this space, including kernel ridge regression (KRR) and support vector regression (SVR) endowed with hyper-RKHS, and further combine divide-and-conquer with Nyström approximation for scalability in large sample cases. This framework is general: the underlying kernel is learned from a broad class, and can be positive definite or not, which adapts to various requirements in kernel learning. Theoretically, we study the convergence behavior of regularized regression algorithms in hyper-RKHS and derive the learning rates, which goes beyond the classical analysis on RKHS due to the non-trivial independence of pairwise samples and the characterisation of hyper-RKHS. Experimentally, results on several benchmarks suggest that the employed framework is able to learn a general kernel function form an arbitrary similarity matrix, and thus achieves a satisfactory performance on classification tasks.

The number of arithmetic units used in the one-dimensional (1D) discrete wavelet transform (DWT) is the main consideration for reducing the area of VLSI implementation of 1D DWT, while the size of intermediate memory used for data buffering is another dominate factor of effecting hardware complexity of VLSI implementation for two-dimensional (2D) DWT. In this paper, we exploit the essential relationship between the size of temporal buffer (TB) required in the line-based architecture for 2D DWT (LBA2DDWT) and the number of registers used in the 1D DWT module, and present an improved method of mapping the registers used in the 1D DWT to the TB required in LBA2DDWT. Comparison results with the other design reported in previous literature demonstrate that, the proposed mapping method can reduce efficiently the size of memory required in LBA2DDWT.

Focus on the image compressing problem of unmanned aerial vehicle with high compression ratio, fixed compressing ratio and low computational complexity requirement, a low-complexity image-sequence compressing algorithm based on homography transformation was proposed. The image sequences were dynamically divided into frame-groups according the data from airborne inertial navigation systems, and the intermediate frames in the same frame-group was b i-directionally predicted by the first-frame and the end-frame with homography transformation. The homography matrix was got approximately by the airborne inertial navigation systems firstly and then was accurately computed by fast multiple sub-areas template matching. At the end the first frame and the residual images of the intermediate frames of the same frame-group was merged into a big image and coded by JPEG2000 to generate fixed-size code streams. The experiment results show that the proposed algorithm was with high compression performance, low computational complexity and excellent capacity for code-size control and will has good prospect in engineer.

This paper studies a strike path strategy for quadcopter drones targeting ground maneuvering targets. The strategy sets the strike path to two different strike speeds, which improves the stability and robustness of quadcopter drones while shortening strike time and increasing hit rates. Consider the attitude control of quadcopter unmanned aerial vehicles during motion, and verify the flight reliability of the mechanism through simulation experiments. Set different slope strike paths and obtain the optimal strike path through experiments, while proving the effectiveness of this strike strategy in engineering applications.

A new parallel-based lifting algorithm (PBLA) for the 9/7 filters, exploring the parallelism of arithmetic operations in each lifting step, was proposed in this paper. It shortened significantly the critical path of computation, and resulted in a fast VLSI implementation architecture. In comparison with the conventional lifting algorithm based implementation (CLABI), the latency is reduced by more than half from (4T/sub m/ + 8T/sub a/) to (T/sub m/ + 4T/sub a/), which is competitive to that of convolution based implementation CBI, and can be further reduced to Tm by inserting 3 stages of pipeline. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed architecture has good performances in both speed and area.

Nonconvex penalties with analytical solutions for one-bit compressive sensing

One-bit measurements widely exist in the real world and can be used to recover sparse signals. This task is known as one-bit compressive sensing (1bit-CS). In this paper, we propose novel algorithms based on both convex and nonconvex sparsity-inducing penalties for robust 1bit-CS. We consider the dual problem, which has only one variable and provides a sufficient condition to verify whether a solution is globally optimal or not. For positive homogeneous penalties, a globally optimal solution can be obtained in two steps: a proximal operator and a normalization step. For other penalties, we solve the dual problem, and it needs to evaluate the proximal operators for many times. Then we provide fast algorithms for finding analytical solutions for three penalties: minimax concave penalty (MCP), 0norm, and sorted 1penalty. Specifically, our algorithm is more than 200 times faster than the existing algorithm for MCP. Its efficiency is comparable to the algorithm for the 1penalty in time, while its performance is much better than 1. Among these penalties, sorted 1is most robust to noise in different settings. A multi-feature bio-inspired model for scene image classification (MFBIM) is presented in this work;it extends the hierarchical feedforward model of the visual cortex. Firstly, each of three paths of classification uses each image property (i.e. shape, edge or color based features) independently. Then, BPNN assigns the category of an image based on the previous outputs. Experiments show that the model boosts the classification accuracy over the shape based model. Meanwhile, the proposed approach achieves a high accuracy comparable to other reported methods on publicly available color image dataset. © (2013) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

The Commensal Radio Astronomy Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST) Survey (CRAFTS) utilizes the novel drift-scan commensal survey mode of FAST and can generate billions of pulsar candidate signals. The human experts are not likely to thoroughly examine these signals, and various machine sorting methods are used to aid the classification of the FAST candidates. In this study, we propose a new ensemble classification system for pulsar candidates. This system denotes the further development of the pulsar image-based classification system (PICS), which was used in the Arecibo Telescope pulsar survey, and has been retrained and customized for the FAST drift-scan survey. In this study, we designed a residual network model comprising 15 layers to replace the convolutional neural networks (CNNs) in PICS. The results of this study demonstrate that the new model can sort >96% of real pulsars to belong the top 1% of all candidates and classify > 1.6 million candidates per day using a dual-GPU and 24-core computer. This increased speed and efficiency can help to facilitate real-time or quasi-real-time processing of the pulsar-search data stream obtained from CRAFTS. In addition, we have published the labeled FAST data used in this study online, which can aid in the development of new deep learning techniques for performing pulsar searches.
