Granular computing which imitates the manner of human thinking is a mathematical tool to deal with incomplete, uncertain, imprecise and inconsistent knowledge. Just as a great umbrella, it may be regarded as a label of theories, methodologies, techniques and tools about granules, mainly including fuzzy set theory, rough set theory and quotient space theory. In this paper we discuss the relationship of three theories. Then we introduce a general model of granular computing and present a macrocosmic (microcosmic) hierarchical representation of granules.

In this paper, we highlight the use of multimedia technology in generating intrinsic summaries of tourism related information. The system utilizes an automated process to gather, filter and classify information on various tourist spots on the Web. The end result present to the user is a personalized multimedia summary generated with respect to users queries filled with text, image, video and real-time news made retrievable for mobile devices. Preliminary experiments demonstrate the superiority of our presentation scheme to traditional methods.

In order to reduce the complexity of hologram generation and holographic display, for the first time the paper combines Gerchberg-Saxton iterative algorithm with Lohmann coding to make phase-only hologram and designs a digital micromirror device (DMD) display system. Thus we not only solve the problem that the amplitude of the frequency spectrum of object function fluctuates very greatly but also avoid the complicated process for producing hologram produced by the plotter, which is controlled by computer. And by this method we can further avoid the complicated technology by etching silicon crystal and improve the quality of imaging.

An efficient discrimination method of different brain states is important in order to implement a suitable system. This paper applies the One Versus the Rest CSP to the EEG data recorded during motor imagery tasks consisting of four different classes, namely the imagination of right hand, left hand, foot and tongue movements. The best correct classification results for the three subjects are73.3%, 81.7%, and 76.7%.

A fast algorithm for computing analysis window of real discrete Gabor transforms based on DCT in order to realize real discrete Gabor transforms efficiently was introduced. The original biorthogonal condition expression of computing analysis window functions was predigested by using the orthogonality of discrete cosine functions, and then divided the original equations set into a set of independent subsystems. Thus this algorithm can save a considerable computation. Some numerical experiments were given to demonstrate the efficiency and advantages of the proposed algorithm. It decreases the computational time compared to the original algorithm.

Bio-based human computer interface(HCI) has attracted more and more attention of researches all over the world in recent years. In this paper, an EOG-based HCI system is introduced. It is composed of three parts: EOG amplifying and acquisition, EOG pattern recognition and control command output. Three plane electrodes are employed to detects the EOG signals, which contains the information related to the eye blinking and vertical( or horizontal ) eye movements referred to pre-designed command table. An online signalprocessing algorithm is designated to get the command information contained in EOG signals, and these commands could be used to control the computer or other instruments. Based on this HCI system, the remote control experiments driven by EOG are realized.

This paper proposes a Sample-Consensus method for viewpoint independent sign language recognition under data deficiency (matched features are possibly deficient with regard to some frame pairs). The proposed method is based on the epipolar geometry and inspired by RANSAC. The basic idea is that all corresponded frames between two sequences of the same sign can be roughly considered as captured synchronously by a virtual stereo vision system and thus they will satisfy the same fundamental matrix. In addition, the fundamental matrix can be estimated from point correspondences contained by some part of corresponding frames. Experimental results demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed method. Moreover, this Sample-Consensus method can be easily extended to some similar problems, such as viewpoint independent activity analysis and rigid-motion analysis.
