A Tetrahedral Spectral Element Method for Thermo-Mechanical Analysis of Electronic Devices

For the coupled thermo-mechanical simulation of complex electronic devices, we propose a Tetrahedral Spectral Element Method (TSEM), which truly combines the high accuracy of spectral methods with the strong geometric adaptability of Finite Element Methods (FEMs). The TSEM employs a collapse transformation method and successfully converts the orthogonal Gauss-Lobatto-Legendre (GLL) basis functions from a hexahedron to a tetrahedral reference element. This ensures numerical accuracy and stability for arbitrary high-order interpolation. We also generate non-equidistant GLL spectral interpolation nodes for tetrahedral elements through Warp&Blend transformation, enabling direct nodal numerical integration calculation through Vandermonde matrices. This approach replaces the classical Gaussian quadrature in the FEM, not only significantly enhancing the computational efficiency of element matrix but also avoiding potential numerical dissipation and dispersion associated with Gaussian integration, thus achieving rapid convergence. In the TSEM thermo-mechanical coupling, we further construct a separate solver based on the implicit Newmark-β method, which realizes unconditional stability for temporal integration for arbitrary time step increment. Moreover, it supports independent inversion of system matrices for temperature and stress fields, without increasing computational resource consumption due to the coupling of multi-physics equations. By quantitatively comparing with the COMSOL Multiphysics software, several typical case studies are used to demonstrate the significant advantages of the TSEM in numerical accuracy, efficiency, and stability. © 2025 IEEE. This paper presents a novel pencil beam generation method based on computational holography. The method generates intensity maps through computer simulation, obtains a computed hologram using a computational holographic method, and simulates near-field diffraction using computer simulation to simulate the role of a spatial light modulator (SLM) in a real holographic system. The theoretical effects of the computed hologram are simulated using computer simulation, and finally, a pencil-shaped beam with a focus position that can be flexibly adjusted at all depths is generated. Through experimental simulations, the feasibility of adjusting the focus position of the beam within a certain depth range is verified, showing its potential application value in fluorescence excitation and biomedical fields. © 2025 SPIE.

A Nonconformal SETI-DP Method for Transient Thermal Simulation

This paper proposes a novel nonconformal meshbased dual-primal spectral element tearing and interconnecting (SETI-DP) method designed for the efficient transient simulation of complex large-scale heat conduction problems utilizing a domain decomposition method (DDM). This method allows for the division of complex, large-scale problems into smaller subdomain problems. By applying Robin-type transmission conditions at the subdomain interfaces, rapid convergence of the global interface iterative solution is achieved for arbitrary non-conformal subdomain problems. This non-conformal DDM approach supports independent meshing of subdomains, eliminating the need to generate a globally continuous mesh for large-scale problems, thereby significantly enhancing meshing efficiency. In addition, this non-conformal meshing strategy enables high-contrast spatial discretization and mixed-order spectral interpolation between different subdomains. This significantly increases meshing flexibility, minimizes the number of degrees of freedom (DoF) in multi-scale problems, and reduces computational costs. In addition, by developing a subdomain-coupled time iteration scheme, the global corner problem of residual transfer is explicitly given, which greatly improves the versatility and flexibility of the algorithm. Finally, to demonstrate the accuracy, efficiency, and robustness of our algorithm, we conduct benchmark tests on several representative examples. © 2011-2012 IEEE.

Self-Supervised Semantic Segmentation, aiming to leverage masses of unlabeled data for boosting semantic segmentation, has been rapidly emerging as an active task in recent years. However, existing self-supervised semantic segmentation approaches mainly focus on planar images, leaving multiple distorted objects encountered in panoramic images unexplored due to the formidable challenge of handling heterogeneous degrees of distortions across different locations. In this paper, we propose a novel Self-Supervised Panoramic Semantic Segmentation model, termed DASC-SPT, built upon the mainstream contrastive learning framework. Towards distortions in panoramic images, we present two structures to better learn from distorted features by applying planar images. For the input images of self-supervision, we design a Spherical Projection Transformation (SPT) strategy that involves randomly projecting planar images onto various locations of the sphere to introduce the distortions. For pixel-wise distorted features, we construct a Deformation-aware Sampling Consistency (DASC) framework to further utilize the shared content and discrepancies caused by different distortions of paired views, where the deformation-aware consistency can be quantified on pixel-wise features. Both of the two components facilitate the model to adapt to distortions and boost panoramic semantic segmentation. Extensive comprehensive experiments on three panoramic datasets demonstrate the effectiveness and superiority of DASC-SPT approach. © 2025 IEEE.

Strong noise is one of the biggest challenges in controlled-source electromagnetic (CSEM) exploration, which severely affects the quality of the recorded signal. We develop a novel and effective CSEM noise attenuation method that integrates a deep convolutional neural network (DCNN) with a high-quality sounding curve screening mechanism. This method first uses a DCNN to learn the large-scale noise characteristics of CSEM measured data and build a DCNN denoising model for attenuating the noise. Because some impulse noise remains after DCNN denoising, the high-quality sounding curve screening mechanism is innovatively applied to optimize the DCNN denoised data. The core of this method is the smoothness value (SV), which quantitatively evaluates the smoothness of the sounding curve (apparent resistivity curve). In effect, the mechanism segments the overall DCNN denoised data and calculates the corresponding sounding curve and its SV for each segment. The highest-quality sounding curve can be screened out by comparing the SVs of all curves as well as obtaining the highest-quality data segment present in the overall DCNN denoised data. Finally, our method is validated with synthetic and field data, demonstrating its feasibility and effectiveness in attenuating large-scale CSEM noise. The quality of CSEM data, which is heavily affected by noise, is significantly improved after processing by our method. © 2025 Society of Exploration Geophysicists. All rights reserved.

Recently, vision transformer based multimodal learning methods have been proposed to improve the robustness of face anti-spoofing (FAS) systems. However, multimodal face data collected from the real world is often imperfect due to missing modalities from various imaging sensors. Recently, flexible-modal FAS (Yu et al. 2023) has attracted more attention, which aims to develop a unified multimodal FAS model using complete multimodal face data but is insensitive to test-time missing modalities. In this paper, we tackle one main challenge in flexible-modal FAS, i.e., when missing modality occurs either during training or testing in real-world situations. Inspired by the recent success of the prompt learning in language models, we propose Visual Prompt flexible-modal FAS (VP-FAS), which learns the modal-relevant prompts to adapt the frozen pre-trained foundation model to downstream flexible-modal FAS task. Specifically, both vanilla visual prompts and residual contextual prompts are plugged into multimodal transformers to handle general missing-modality cases, while only requiring less than 4% learnable parameters compared to training the entire model. Furthermore, missing-modality regularization is proposed to force models to learn consistent multimodal feature embeddings when missing partial modalities. Extensive experiments conducted on two multimodal FAS benchmark datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of our VP-FAS framework that improves the performance under various missing-modality cases while alleviating the requirement of heavy model re-training. © 2004-2012 IEEE.

In this paper, we investigate reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS)-assisted integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) systems for robust physical layer security (PLS) schemes. Traditionally, eavesdroppers (Eves) typically avoid interacting with the base station, making it challenging to obtain their relevant information, which limits the implementation of PLS. Fortunately, the sensing information obtained by ISAC can contribute to the design of PLS. Therefore, leveraging imperfect sensing estimation and employing dedicated radar signals as artificial noise, we formulate an RIS-assisted joint active and passive beamforming design problem to maximize the sum secrecy rate while satisfying the user’s quality of service constraints, the transmission power constraints, and the sensing signal strength requirements. To make the problem tractable, we first derive the bound for Eve’s channel state information uncertainty region based on security approximations. Subsequently, we employ the S-procedure and the symbolic-deterministic methods to transform the infinite number of inequalities. We then utilize the first-order Taylor expansion, the second-order cone methods, and the successive convex approximation to address the nonconvexity problem, leading to an efficient suboptimal solution obtained by an iterative algorithm. Finally, the simulation results demonstrate the significant potential of the sensing function in enhancing security and the effectiveness of the proposed robust scheme in flexibly balancing communication and sensing quality. © 2002-2012 IEEE.

Recognizing emotions in dialogues is vital for effective human-computer interaction, yet remains a challenging task in Natural Language processing (NLP). Previous studies in Emotion Recognition in Conversation (ERC) have primarily focused on contextual features, while overlooking the importance of emotional features in emotion recognition. To address this gap, we focus on the role of emotional features in ERC and propose a novel method, Emotional Knowledge Self-Distillation (EmoKSD1), to enhance the model's emotional sensitivity. In EmoKSD, utterances are enriched with implicit 〈mask〉 tokens to represent conveyed emotions, allowing the distillation of emotional knowledge from explicit emotional tokens to implicit 〈mask〉 tokens, thereby enhancing the model's ability to perceive subtle emotions within the dialogue. Through thorough evaluations on two public ERC datasets (i.e., IEMOCAP and MELD) using proposed coarse-grained utterance distillation and fine-grained token distillation techniques, EmoKSD demonstrates superior performance compared to existing methods, highlighting the significance of emotional features in ERC. © 2025 IEEE.

Prior studies on Aspect-level Sentiment Classification (ALSC) emphasize modeling interrelationships among aspects and contexts but overlook the crucial role of aspects themselves as essential domain knowledge. To this end, we propose AGCL, a novel Aspect Graph Construction and Learning method, aimed at furnishing the model with finely tuned aspect information to bolster its task-understanding ability. AGCL's pivotal innovations reside in Aspect Graph Construction (AGC) and Aspect Graph Learning (AGL), where AGC harnesses intrinsic aspect connections to construct the domain aspect graph, and then AGL iteratively updates the introduced aspect graph to enhance its domain expertise, making it more suitable for the ALSC task. Hence, this domain aspect graph can serve as a bridge connecting unseen aspects with seen aspects, thereby enhancing the model's generalization capability. Experiment results on three widely used datasets demonstrate the significance of aspect information for ALSC and highlight AGL's superiority in aspect learning, surpassing state-of-the-art baselines greatly. On the Performance of Active RIS-Assisted Mixed RF-THz Relaying Systems

We investigate the performance of an active reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS)-assisted mixed radio frequency (RF)-terahertz (THz) relaying system, where the RF signal reaches the relay through the active RIS and is then transmitted to the user via the THz channel. Under this scenario, we analyze the system performance with the relay employing amplify-and-forward (AF) and decode-and-forward (DF) protocols. More specifically, we derive the exact expressions for the cumulative distribution function (CDF) of the end-to-end signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) for both relaying protocols. Based on this, we obtain the exact expressions for the outage probability (OP), average bit error rate (ABER), and average channel capacity (ACC). Furthermore, to gain deeper insights, we derive the asymptotic expressions at high SNRs and obtain diversity order (DO) of the system. Moreover, we extend the analysis to the variable gain relaying scheme. The findings reveal that the DOs for both relaying protocols are determined by the THz channel parameters, and the DO under the AF relaying protocol is twice that of the DF relaying protocol. Finally, we validate that active RIS (A-RIS) can more effectively assist the performance of the mixed RF-THz relaying system compared to passive RIS. © 2014 IEEE.
