MRD codes are maximum codes in the rank-distance metric space on m-by-n matrices over the finite field of order q. They are diameter perfect and have the cardinality qm(n-d+1) if m ≥ n. We define switching in MRD codes as replacing special MRD subcodes by other subcodes with the same parameters. We consider constructions of MRD codes admitting such switching, including punctured twisted Gabidulin codes and direct-product codes. Using switching, we construct a huge class of MRD codes whose cardinality grows doubly exponentially in m if the other parameters (n, q, the code distance) are fixed. Medical image segmentation in X-ray images is beneficial for computer-aided diagnosis and lesion localization. Existing methods mainly fall into a centralized learning paradigm, which is inapplicable in the practical medical scenario that only has access to distributed data islands. Federated Learning has the potential to offer a distributed solution but struggles with heavy training instability due to client-wise domain heterogeneity (including distribution diversity and class imbalance). In this paper, we propose a novel Federated Client-tailored Adapter (FCA) framework for medical image segmentation, which achieves stable and client-tailored adaptive segmentation without sharing sensitive local data. Specifically, the federated adapter stirs universal knowledge in off-the-shelf medical foundation models to stabilize the federated training process. In addition, we develop two client-tailored federated updating strategies that adaptively decompose the adapter into common and individual components, then globally and independently update the parameter groups associated with common client-invariant and individual client-specific units, respectively. They further stabilize the heterogeneous federated learning process and realize optimal client-tailored instead of sub-optimal global-compromised segmentation models. Extensive experiments on three large-scale datasets demonstrate the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed FCA framework for federated medical segmentation. © 2025, CC BY.

Knowledge tracing has been widely used in online learning systems to guide the students' future learning. However, most existing KT models primarily focus on extracting abundant information from the question sets and explore the relationships between them, but ignore the personalized student behavioral information in the learning process. This will limit the model's ability to accurately capture the personalized knowledge states of students and reasonably predict their performances. To alleviate this limitation, we explicitly models the personalized learning process by incorporating the emotions, a representative personalized behavior in the learning process, into KT framework. Specifically, we present a novel Dual-State Personalized Knowledge Tracing with Emotional Incorporation model to achieve this goal: Firstly, we incorporate emotional information into the modeling process of knowledge state, resulting in the Knowledge State Boosting Module. Secondly, we design an Emotional State Tracing Module to monitor students' personalized emotional states, and propose an emotion prediction method based on personalized emotional states. Finally, we apply the predicted emotions to enhance students' response prediction. Furthermore, to extend the generalization capability of our model across different datasets, we design a transferred version of DEKT, named Transfer Learningbased Self-loop model (T-DEKT). A high-order spatial filtering-symplectic finite difference time domain (SF-SFDTD) scheme with controllable stability condition is proposed to solve the time-dependent Schrödinger equation (TDSE). Firstly, the higher-order symplectic framework for the discretization of Schrödinger equation is described, and then the spatial filtering method is carried out to extend the stability of the standard SFDTD method. Finally, a numerical example is given to evaluate the correctness of the SF-SFDTD method in numerical solving Schrödinger equation.

Precodings using square-root decomposition, including Cholesky and G-To-Minus-Half (GTMH) precodings, are promising for eliminating the Faster-Than-Nyquist (FTN)-induced Intersymbol-Interference (ISI). However, the existing precodings using square-root decomposition either ignore Interblock-Interference (IBI) or increase the signal power, deteriorating the Bit Error Rate (BER) performance for high-order modulations and severe ISI. To overcome these drawbacks, we adopt two approaches for constructing the circular ISI matrix. The first approach inserts a Cyclic Prefix/Suffix (CPS) after each precoded symbol block, while the second approach replaces the linear convolution of the FTN shaping and the matched filter by the circular convolution, resulting in the Circular FTN (CFTN). Using these two approaches, we propose three IBI-free precodings, i.e., CPS-Cholesky, CFTN-Cholesky and CFTN-GTMH precodings. Furthermore, employing QR decomposition shows that the GTMH and Cholesky precodings can be converted interchangeably. Thus, we demonstrate that the GTMH precoding is essentially equivalent to the Cholesky precoding. Simulation results indicate that the BER performance of three IBI-free precodings approaches Nyquist performance for moderate ISI. However, as ISI intensifies, the CPS-Cholesky scheme increases the transmit power, causing BER performance degradation. In contrast, the CFTN-Cholesky and CFTN-GTMH precodings maintain optimal BER performance even for severe ISI. Considering 128-amplitude phase shift keying with a code rate of 1/2, the BER loss of CFTN-Cholesky and CFTN-GTMH precodings for the ideal BER of 10-5 is approximately 0.002 dB and 0.005 dB when packing factor is 0.7 and roll-off factor is 0.3. To the best knowledge of the authors, this is the optimal performance achievable through precoding.

Hand hygiene is a standard six-step hand-washing action proposed by the World Health Organization (WHO). However, there is no good way to supervise medical staff to do hand hygiene, which brings the potential risk of disease spread. Existing action assessment works usually make an overall quality prediction on an entire video. However, the internal structures of hand hygiene action are important in hand hygiene assessment. Therefore, we propose a novel fine-grained learning framework to perform step segmentation and key action scorer in a joint manner for accurate hand hygiene assessment. Existing temporal segmentation methods usually employ multi-stage convolutional network to improve the segmentation robustness, but easily lead to over-segmentation due to the lack of the long-range dependence. To address this issue, we design a multi-stage convolution-transformer network for step segmentation. Based on the observation that each hand-washing step involves several key actions which determine the hand-washing quality, we design a set of key action scorers to evaluate the quality of key actions in each step. In addition, there lacks a unified dataset in hand hygiene assessment. Therefore, under the supervision of medical staff, we contribute a video dataset that contains 300 video sequences with fine-grained annotations. Extensive experiments on the dataset suggest that our method well assesses hand hygiene videos and achieves outstanding performance. Copyright © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

This study addresses the consensus problem for nonlinear multi-agent systems (MASs) under the exogenous disturbances over cooperation-competition networks. Firstly, for judging the disturbances produced by the exogenous environment, a disturbance observer-based approach is developed and incorporated into the controller. Secondly, two novel nonlinear control protocols depended on state feedback and output feedback control are constructed to guarantee consensus for MASs over the signed directed graph, respectively. Thirdly, theoretical guarantees on the effectiveness of the proposed controller in steering the system to a bipartite leader-following consensus with exogenous disturbances are derived. Finally, numerical simulations inspired by a real-world physical MAS are provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed controllers.

This paper presents an efficient method for analyzing the metasurface of varying element sizes or rotate angles. In this method, the characteristic modes (CMs) for metasurface element can be obtained by solving a generalized eigenvalue problem (GEP) based on the mixed potential integral equation (MPIE). Then, by choosing the first several CMs of the isolated reference element with larger mode significance (MS) to construct the entire domain basis functions, the induced current of the metasurface structure can be expanded using the set of entire domain basis functions. By truncating the order of the entire domain basis functions, this method can significantly reduce the number of unknowns and greatly reduce the computational time and memory requirement.
