Boosting polyp screening with improved point-teacher weakly semi-supervised

Polyps, like a silent time bomb in the gut, are always lurking and can explode into deadly colorectal cancer at any time. Many methods are attempted to maximize the early detection of colon polyps by screening, however, there are still face some challenges: (i) the scarcity of per-pixel annotation data and clinical features such as the blurred boundary and low contrast of polyps result in poor performance. (ii) existing weakly semi-supervised methods directly using pseudo-labels to supervise student tend to ignore the value brought by intermediate features in the teacher. To adapt the point-prompt teacher model to the challenging scenarios of complex medical images and limited annotation data, we creatively leverage the diverse inductive biases of CNN and Transformer to extract robust and complementary representation of polyp features (boundary and context). At the same time, a novel designed teacher–student intermediate feature distillation method is introduced rather than just using pseudo-labels to guide student learning. Comprehensive experiments demonstrate that our proposed method effectively handles scenarios with limited annotations and exhibits good segmentation performance. Kernel-learning parameter prediction and evaluation in algebraic multigrid method for several PDEs

This paper explores the application of kernel learning methods for parameter prediction and evaluation in the Algebraic Multigrid Method (AMG), focusing on several Partial Differential Equation (PDE) problems. AMG is an efficient iterative solver for large-scale sparse linear systems, particularly those derived from elliptic and parabolic PDE discretizations. However, its performance heavily relies on numerous parameters, which are often set empirically and are highly sensitive to AMG’s effectiveness. Traditional parameter optimization methods are either computationally expensive or lack theoretical support. To address this, we propose a Gaussian Process Regression (GPR)-based strategy to optimize AMG parameters and introduce evaluation metrics to assess their effectiveness. Trained on small-scale datasets, GPR predicts nearly optimal parameters, bypassing the time-consuming parameter sweeping process. We also use kernel learning techniques to build a kernel function library and determine the optimal kernel function through linear combination, enhancing prediction accuracy. In numerical experiments, we tested typical PDEs such as the constant-coefficient Poisson equation, variable-coefficient Poisson equation, diffusion equation, and Helmholtz equation. Results show that GPR-predicted parameters match grid search results in iteration counts while significantly reducing computational time. A comprehensive analysis using metrics like mean squared error, prediction interval coverage, and Bayesian information criterion confirms GPR’s efficiency and reliability. These findings validate GPR’s effectiveness in AMG parameter optimization and provide theoretical support for AMG’s practical application. © 2025, CC BY.

Blockchain-Assisted Revocable Cross-Domain Authentication for Vehicular Ad-Hoc Networks

With the rapid development of vehicular ad-hoc networks (VANETs) and the increasing diversification of user demands, interactions between different management domains have become more frequent. Identity authentication is an effective way to establish cross-domain trust and secure communication. However, the existing cross-domain authentication schemes of VANETs are limited to the same management or authentication technology for each domain and rely on centralized cross-domain identity management. Even distributed management solutions encounter latency sensitivity, security and privacy challenges. To address these challenges, we propose a blockchain-assisted revocable cross-domain authentication scheme for VANETs. The proposed scheme can establish trust between domain entities by deploying different authentication methods and using distributed management to avoid single-point failures. In addition, the scheme can revoke the identity of malicious vehicles by updating the group public key, thereby ensuring the security and privacy of cross-domain Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) and Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) communication. This design avoids the additional impacts of blockchain technology constraints on the high mobility and real-time requirements of VANETs. Security analysis and performance evaluation show that our scheme can resist more attacks and has better security than other related schemes while also achieving a better balance between communication and computational cost. © 2025 IEEE.

Transductive Few-shot Learning via Joint Message Passing and Prototype-based Soft-label Propagation

The transductive Few-shot Learning (FSL) mostly employs either prototype learning or label propagation methods to generalize to new classes by using the information of all query samples. However, existing methods have several main limitations. First, the prototype methods mainly focus on support samples which fail to fully exploit the relationships of query samples. Second, existing label propagation methods are generally not effective for the class-imbalanced problem. Third, existing works usually optimize the learnable parameters during inference which significantly reduces the efficiency of existing methods. To address these limitations, this article proposes an efficient and robust method for transductive FSL problem, termed Prototype-based Soft-label Propagation (PSLP), which combines the prototype learning and label propagation together for FSL problem. In our proposed method, first, the soft-label presentation for each query sample is estimated by leveraging prototypes. Then, the soft-label propagation is conducted on the learned query-support graph and the prototype representation is rectified. Both steps are conducted progressively for boosting the performance. Moreover, to learn effective prototypes for soft-label estimation and the desirable query-support graph for soft-label propagation, we design a new joint message passing scheme to learn the sample presentation and relational graph jointly. The PSLP method is parameter-free and can be implemented very efficiently. The experiments conducted on four popular benchmarks show that our method achieves competitive results on both balanced and imbalanced settings compared to the state-of-the-art methods. A New Dual-Population Evolutionary Algorithm Leveraging Objective-Constraint Relationships for Constrained Multi-Objective Optimization

Population co-evolution strategies are widely used to handle constrained multi-objective optimization problems (CMOPs). However, existing coevolutionary algorithms oversimplify population collaboration and are rigid in evolving the auxiliary population, ignoring the importance of maintaining population diversity, especially for CMOPs with irregular feasible regions. To tackle this issue, we propose a new dual-population evolutionary algorithm, denoted as AACMO, which attempts to mine the relational features between the unconstrained Pareto front (UPF) and the constrained Pareto front (CPF) to better adapt to CMOPs with various constraints. Specifically, the method is categorized into two phases: a learning phase and an evolving phase. First, the main population (MP) aims to quickly learn the relationships between the UPF and the CPF by leveraging the advantages of different operators, namely, genetic algorithm operators and differential evolution operators, during the learning phase. Secondly, two auxiliary strategies are designed to collaborate with the MP during the evolving phase. These strategies are capable of employing a more effective co-evolution method to assist the MP in maintaining diversity, based on the degree of alignment between the learned UPF and CPF at the end of the learning phase. The effectiveness of AACMO is confirmed through comparative analysis with eight state-of-the-art algorithms across four CMOP benchmark suites. © 2025, The Authors. All rights reserved.

This work proposes a high-performance broadband orbital angular momentum (OAM) beam-generating metasurface based on optically transparent media. A broadband polarization-converting transmissive metasurface, which operates in the 18 - 24 (28.57% fractional bandwidth) GHz range, has been realized by collaboratively designing dual C-split ring resonator structures and bidirectional lattice-patterned surface networks. The array structure demonstrates typical helical phase distribution features in the K-band, and experimental results verify simulation design. Innovatively employing a composite structure of quartz glass substrate and patterned conductive thin films, the design achieves compatible optimization of 77% visible-light transmittance and microwave broadband performance. This approach breaks through the mutually exclusive limitations of traditional metasurfaces’ optical/electromagnetic properties, providing a highly integrated solution for transparent antenna radomes in satellite communication systems and multi-mode beam multiplexing applications.

The continuous development of large language models has led to tremendous performance improvement and has made them increasingly more important. More and more researchers are starting to explore the use of these large language models in developing artificial intelligence agents. The goal of this research is to develop a question-answering system based on a multi-agent setup with the open-source large language model Qwen2.5. In this multi-agent setup, the two agents include a student and a teacher where the student solves issues with guidance from the teacher. We evaluate accuracy difference between a single-agent and a multi-agent setup with the Chinese evaluation data, C-Eval. This is a departure from other approaches like fine-tuning large models or utilizing methods like chain of thought (CoT) and n-shot learning that are tailor-made to improve model performance. Rather, it is a more general approach aimed at further testing the abilities of large language models and thereby improve their logical reasoning capabilities. The experimental results demonstrate a significant improvement in accuracy in multi-agent systems compared to single-agent setup. In particular, improvement in accuracy over various subjects is around 2.5%. In addition, it has been found that improvement is directly proportional to model parameter size; for example, a model with a parameter size of 14 billion has a 22.18% improvement in accuracy for hard cases and reflects a significant improvement in performance.

NetPrompt: Neural Network Prompting Enhances Event Extraction in Large Language Models

Event Extraction involves extracting event-related information such as event types and event arguments from context, which has long been tackled through well-designed neural networks or fine-tuned pre-trained language models. These approaches require substantial annotated data for tuning parameters and are resource-intensive. Recently, Prompting strategies with frozen parameters, such as Chain-of-Thought and Self-Consistency, have delivered success in NLP using LLMs by generating intermediate thought steps. However, they suffer from the challenge of error propagation and lack of interaction between different thoughts. In this paper, we propose Neural Network-based Prompting (NetPrompt), a novel network-structured prompting strategy for event extraction. The core idea behind NetPrompt is to imitate the excellent information integration capabilities of neural network structures. Specifically, we first decompose the event extraction problem into diverse intermediate subtasks, and each subtask is represented as a node in different layers of the network, the output of the nodes in the preceding layer is fed into the subsequent layer. Secondly, we propose pruning strategies to adapt the reasoning overhead to different problems. Finally, we have conducted extensive experiments on two widely used event extraction benchmarks to evaluate NetPrompt. The results demonstrated that NetPrompt significantly improved the event extraction performance compared to previous methods. ©2015 IEEE.

In this letter, a set of circularly polarized (CP) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) cellphone frame antennas for mobile communication applications is proposed. The planar inverted-F antenna (PIFA) and monopole antenna operate at frequencies of 3.5 GHz and 5.5 GHz with impedance and axial ratio (AR) bandwidths overlapping at 11.4% (3.3-3.7 GHz) and 7.3% (5.2-5.6 GHz), respectively. To reduce the electromagnetic coupling between the two antennas, the V-shaped mental fence is added and different rectangular metasurface (RMS) arrays are adopted to enhance the CP radiation performances. This design not only covers 5G communication, LTE, and the 5 GHz Wi-Fi band. It also provides a communication strategy for future direct satellite communication from cellphones, enhancing efficient switching between satellite and cellular networks. © 2002-2011 IEEE.

THREE-PRECISION ITERATIVE REFINEMENT WITH PARAMETER REGULARIZATION AND PREDICTION FOR SOLVING LARGE SPARSE LINEAR SYSTEMS

This study presents a novel mixed-precision iterative refinement algorithm, GADI-IR, within the general alternating-direction implicit (GADI) framework, designed for efficiently solving large-scale sparse linear systems. By employing low-precision arithmetic, particularly half-precision (FP16), for computationally intensive inner iterations, the method achieves substantial acceleration while maintaining high numerical accuracy. key challenges such as overflow in half-precision and convergence issues for low precision are addressed through careful backward error analysis and the application of a regularization parameter α. Furthermore, the integration of low-precision arithmetic into the parameter prediction process, using Gaussian Process Regression (GPR), significantly reduces computational time without degrading performance. The method is particularly effective for large-scale linear systems arising from discretized partial differential equations and other high-dimensional problems, where both accuracy and efficiency are critical. Numerical experiments demonstrate that the use of mixed-precision strategies not only accelerates computation but also ensures robust convergence, making the approach advantageous for various applications. The results highlight the potential of leveraging lower-precision arithmetic to achieve superior computational efficiency in high-performance computing. © 2025, CC BY.
