Expressing empathy is a trait in human daily conversation, in which people are willing to give responses containing appropriate emotions and topics on the basis of understanding the interlocutor’s situation. However, empathetic dialogue models trained by data-driven training method tend to generate general responses, which are usually monotonous and difficult to infuse emotions and topics concurrently. To solve this issue, we propose a novel model that generates two sub-responses, namely, emotion feedback and topic discussion, then integrates them to optimize empathetic responses. Specifically, in the sub-response generation stage, we introduce emotion lexicon and commonsense knowledge to make sub-responses focus on emotional words and topic-related words respectively, which drives the sub-responses to be contextually related from different perspectives. Afterward, we utilize cross attention to integrate the global information to optimize the final response. Our model is trained on the pre-trained language model BART. Experimental results show that our method can generate responses involving emotion and topic well, and compared with existing methods, empathy and relevance are improved. Few-shot learning based methods can address the reliance on large-scale labeled samples in current breast tumor segmentation. However, previous methods typically rely on a few support samples to extract abstract, coarse-grained semantic prototypes, without considering the interaction between support and query data. In this study, we aim to provide each query image with relevant and information-rich support information. By integrating the difficult point selection module and the multi-scale cyclical prototype refinement module, we progressively refine coarse-grained support prototypes into more informative, fine-grained class prototypes, thereby better matching the highly variable breast ultrasound query data. Experiments on two datasets demonstrate that our proposed multi-scale cyclical similarity prototype refinement network (CSPRNet) achieves remarkable improvements compared to previous state-of-the-art methods. Specifically, using ResNet50 as the backbone, we achieve 57.93%/57.92% and 57.58%/59.24% mIoU for 1-shot and 5-shot segmentation, respectively, on public and private datasets, outperforming the suboptimal method by 8.18%/2.55% and 2.77%/4.48%. © 2024 IEEE.

The present study aims to explore the local spatiotemporal consistency of brain connectivity in PD patients. In total, 30 PD patients and 20 health controls (HC) were collected from the Parkinson’s progression markers initiative (PPMI) and their resting state functional MRI images are acquired. FOur-dimensional Consistency of local neural Activities (FOCA) was employed for the first time to explore local brain activity differences between the two groups. To explore the relationship between FOCA values and neuropsychological indices, the Pearson correlation analysis was performed. And receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis was carried out to distinguish PD from HC. Compared with HC, PD patients demonstrated decreased FOCA values in the right inferior temporal gyrus (ITG.R), right middle temporal gyrus (MTG.R), right middle occipital gyrus (MOG.R), right superior occipital gyrus, right inferior occipital gyrus, left precentral gyrus (PreCG.L), left postcentral gyrus (PoCG.L) and left rolandic operculum. The FOCA values in MTG.R and ITG.R were positively related to Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) values. Negative relationships had been found in FOCA values of PreCG.L and MOG.R and Unified Parkinson’s Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS) III scores. What’s more, the ROC analysis showed that the FOCA values of altered brain regions can be used to distinguish PD patients from HC with high performance. PD patients demonstrated disrupted local brain activity in several brain regions. These brain regions are mainly involved in motor, cognitive and emotional functions. The current study provides important insights into understanding the pathophysiological mechanism of PD symptoms. © 2023 SPIE. All rights reserved.

Coarse for Fine: Bounding Box Supervised Thyroid Ultrasound image Segmentation Using Spatial Arrangement and Hierarchical Prediction Consistency

Weakly-supervised learning methods have become increasingly attractive for medical image segmentation, but suffered from a high dependence on quantifying the pixel-wise affinities of low-level features, which are easily corrupted in thyroid ultrasound images, resulting in segmentation over-fitting to weakly annotated regions without precise delineation of target boundaries. We propose a dual-branch weakly-supervised learning framework to optimize the backbone segmentation network by calibrating semantic features into rational spatial distribution under the indirect, coarse guidance of the bounding box mask. Specifically, in the spatial arrangement consistency branch, the maximum activations sampled from the preliminary segmentation prediction and the bounding box mask along the horizontal and vertical dimensions are compared to measure the rationality of the approximate target localization. In the hierarchical prediction consistency branch, the target and background prototypes are encapsulated from the semantic features under the combined guidance of the preliminary segmentation prediction and the bounding box mask. The secondary segmentation prediction induced from the prototypes is compared with the preliminary prediction to quantify the rationality of the elaborated target and background semantic feature perception. Experiments on three thyroid datasets illustrate that our model outperforms existing weakly-supervised methods for thyroid gland and nodule segmentation and is comparable to the performance of fully-supervised methods with reduced annotation time. The proposed method has provided a weakly-supervised segmentation strategy by simultaneously considering the target's location and the rationality of target and background semantic features distribution. It can improve the applicability of deep learning based segmentation in the clinical practice. The source code and relative datasets will be available at https://***/LanLanUp/SAHP-Net. © 2013 IEEE.

In recent years, with the increasingly serious quality problems of human sperm, the performance of traditional sperm analysis methods has been unable to meet the growing demand for diagnosis and treatment. The purpose of this study was to explore the application of deep convolutional neural network microvideo in computer assisted sperm analysis (CASA). For the sperm detection task, the model structure, loss function and non-maximum suppression algorithm were optimized to improve the performance of the model, reflecting the advantages of deep learning. To avoid the impact of data differences, cross-validation test was adopted in this study, and multiple indexes such as F1-score and AP were compared with the original model after training. These improvements significantly improved the average accuracy and F1 scores of the models. The performance of the model not only has an important impact on the indicators of the target detection model, but also has an important impact on the visualization results of the model. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

Cervical cancer ranks as the fourth most frequently diagnosed cancer. This disease has an extended precancerous stage and can be completely cured and prevented through early detection. Currently, the analysis of histopathological images of cervical cancer relies on manual assessment by pathologists, a subjective and time-consuming process. Moreover, there is limited research on differentiating the severity of cervical cancer in histopathological images. To address these challenges, this study proposes a classification algorithm based on high-order conditional random field for cervical cancer histopathologic images. The algorithm effectively categorizes images into high differentiation, medium differentiation, and low differentiation stages. Three deep learning models, namely VGG-16, Inception-V3, and ResNet-50, are utilized for pre-classification at the image block level. For image-level classification, the Visual Transformer model is employed. Finally, the block-level and image-level classification components are integrated using the conditional random field model, resulting in the high-order conditional random field model. Intra-abdominal fat is a crucial factor in determining metabolic syndrome and insulin resistance. Therefore, high levels of intra-abdominal fat are always accompanied by a series of diseases such as diabetes, ischemia, hypertension, and dyslipidemia. Although methods such as the ultrasonic method and electrical impedance method have been widely used to calculate body fat tissue in recent years, these methods only provide qualitative analysis of the overall degree of obesity. However, for quantitative analysis of abdominal fat and adipose tissue distribution in the human body, the computed tomography (CT) fat segmentation method is necessary. This paper focuses on machine learning, image segmentation, and multi-feature fusion of mean clustering as its main technical directions. In terms of application, it aims to perform a quantitative analysis of the distribution and proportion of intra-abdominal fat in the abdominal cavity of the human body. The study concluded that the quantitative analysis of fat after the fusion method is more accurate, with a subcutaneous fat accuracy rate of 84.26% and a visceral fat accuracy rate of 70.20%. Gland instance segmentation is an essential but challenging task in the diagnosis of adenocarcinoma. The existing models usually achieve gland instance segmentation through multi-task learning and boundary loss constraint. However, how to deal with the problems of gland adhesion and inaccurate boundary in segmenting the complex samples remains a challenge. In this work, we propose a novel geometric feature named displacement field (DF), which can represent the geometric information such as shape, size, and orientation of the glands. Based on the explicit constraint of DF, a displacement-field assisted graph energy transmitter (DFGET) framework is proposed for solving the above problems. Using such graph framework, the gland semantic segmentation map and the displacement field of the graph nodes are estimated with two graph network branches. With the constraint of DF, a graph cluster module is presented to improve the intra-class feature consistency and inter-class feature discrepancy, as well as to separate the adherent glands. Extensive comparison and ablation experiments on the GlaS dataset demonstrate the effectiveness of the displacement field and the superiority of DFGET. Compared to the best comparative model, DFGET increases the object-Dice and object-F1 score by 2.27% and 3.11% respectively, while decreases the object-HD by 15.58, achieving state-of-the-art performance, which indicates that DFGET can serve as an auxiliary tool for the diagnosis of adenocarcinoma. © 2024 IEEE.

Sequences with low/zero ambiguity zone (LAZ/ZAZ) properties are useful in modern communication and radar systems operating over mobile environments. This paper first presents a new family of ZAZ sequence sets motivated by the "modulating" zero correlation zone (ZCZ) sequences which were first proposed by Popovic and Mauritz. We then introduce a second family of ZAZ sequence sets with comb-like spectrum, whereby the local Doppler resilience is guaranteed by their inherent spectral nulls in the frequency domain. Finally, LAZ sequence sets are obtained by exploiting their connection with a novel class of mapping functions. These proposed unimodular ZAZ and LAZ sequence sets are cyclically distinct and asymptotically optimal with respect to the existing theoretical bounds on ambiguity functions. © 1963-2012 IEEE.
