Communication network designing:Transmission capacity,cost and scalability

Despite the growing number of works centering around the traffic dynamics on complex networks,these researches still have some common shortcomings,e.g.,too simple traffic flow model and lack of considerations for the designing cost and scalability *** paper builds on a more realistic traffic flow model,and offers a holistic view on the network designing *** addition to the extensively studied transmission capacity,this paper takes designing cost and scalability as two other designing objectives,and presents a quantitative study of how different designing choices independently and collectively influence these objectives by the introduction of a cartesian coordinate *** is shown that different kinds of network topologies display different shapes of achievable solution spaces and exhibit different abilities to achieve cost-effective and scalable *** particular,we find the philosophy underlying empirical network designing and engineering today fails to meet the cost-effective and scalable designing requirements,and propose a cost-effective and scalable designing scheme for BA-like networks,i.e.,the efficient routing combined with effective betweenness based link bandwidth *** addition,when designing a thoroughly new network from the beginning,we find that ER network is a good candidate to achieve cost-effective and scalable designing in most settings.

Traditional learning techniques have the assumption that training and test data are drawn from the same data distribution, and thus they are not suitable for dealing with the situation where new unlabeled data are obtained from fast evolving, related but different information sources. This leads to the cross-domain learning problem which targets on adapting the knowledge learned from one or more source domains to target domains. Transfer learning has made a great progress, and a lot of approaches and algorithms are presented. But negative transfer learning will cause trouble in the problem solving, which is difficult to avoid. In this paper we have proposed an introspective reasoner to overcome the negative transfer learning. Introspective learning exploits explicit representations of its own organization and desired behavior to determine when, what, and how to learn in order to improve its own reasoning. According to the transfer learning process we will present the architecture of introspective reasoner for transductive transfer learning. © 2012 IFIP International Federation for information processing.

Ant colony optimization algorithms have been successfully applied to solve many problems. However, in some large scale optimization problems involving large amounts of data, the optimization process may take hours or even days to get an excellent solution. Developing parallel optimization algorithms is a common way to tackle with this issue. In this paper, we present a MapReduce Max-Min Ant System (MRMMAS), a MMAS implementation based on the MapReduce parallel programming model. We describe MapReduce and show how MMAS can be naturally adapted and expressed in this model, without explicitly addressing any of the details of parallelization. We present benchmark travelling salesman problems for evaluating MRMMAS. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can scale well and outperform the traditional MMAS with similar running times. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.

Image classification is a challenging problem in computer vision. Its performance heavily depends on image features extracted and classifiers to be constructed. In this paper, we present a new support vector machine with mixture of kernels (SVM-MK) for image classification. On the one hand, the combined global and local block-based image features are extracted in order to reflect the intrinsic content of images as complete as possible. SVM-MK, on the other hand, is constructed to shoot for better classification performance. Experimental results on the Berg dataset show that the proposed image feature representation method together with the constructed image classifier, SVMMK, can achieve higher classification accuracy than conventional SVM with any single kernels as well as compare favorably with several state-of-the-art approaches. © 2012 IFIP International Federation for information processing.

Estimating taxonomic content constitutes a key problem in metagenomic sequencing data ***,extracting such content from high-throughput data of next-generation sequencing is very time-consuming with the currently available ***,we present CloudLCA,a parallel LCA algorithm that significantly improves the efficiency of determining taxonomic composition in metagenomic data *** show that CloudLCA(1)has a running time nearly linear with the increase of dataset magnitude,(2)displays linear speedup as the number of processors grows,especially for large datasets,and(3)reaches a speed of nearly 215 million reads each minute on a cluster with ten thin *** comparison with MEGAN,a well-known metagenome analyzer,the speed of CloudLCA is up to 5 more times faster,and its peak memory usage is approximately 18.5%that of MEGAN,running on a fat *** can be run on one multiprocessor node or a *** is expected to be part of MEGAN to accelerate analyzing reads,with the same output generated as MEGAN,which can be import into MEGAN in a direct way to finish the following ***,CloudLCA is a universal solution for finding the lowest common ancestor,and it can be applied in other fields requiring an LCA algorithm.

Some expanded fuzzy rough sets models have been investigated to handle fuzzy databases with uncertain, imprecise and incomplete real-valued information. In this paper, we make further research on fuzzy rough sets models in fuzzy environment, and we generalize rough fuzzy sets model based on a covering to fuzzy rough sets model based on a fuzzy covering. The lower and upper approximations of fuzzy subsets are defined based on a fuzzy covering, and basic properties are investigated. Then, the axiom definition of the lower approximation operator is given. It is shown that the rough fuzzy sets model based on a covering is a special instance of the fuzzy rough sets model based on a fuzzy covering. © 2012 IEEE.

With the opinion explosion on Web, there are growing research interests in opinion mining. In this study we focus on an important problem in opinion mining - Aspect Identification (AI), which aims to extract aspect terms in entity reviews. Previous PLSA based AI methods exploit the 2-tuples (e.g. the co-occurrence of head and modifier), where each latent topic corresponds to an aspect. Here, we notice that each review is also accompanied by an entity and its overall rating, resulting in quad-tuples joined with the previously mentioned 2-tuples. Believing that the quad-tuples contain more co-occurrence information and thus provide more ability in differentiating topics, we propose a model of Quad-tuple PLSA, which incorporates two more items - entity and its rating, into topic modeling for more accurate aspect identification. The experiments on different numbers of hotel and restaurant reviews show the consistent and significant improvements of the proposed model compared to the 2-tuple PLSA based methods. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.

Adaptive associative classification with emerging frequent patterns

In this paper, we propose an enhanced associative classification method by integrating the dynamic property in the process of associative classification. In the proposed method, we employ a support vector machine（SVM） based method to refine the discovered emerging ~equent patterns for classification rule extension for class label prediction. The empirical study shows that our method can be used to classify increasing resources efficiently and effectively.

Sharing Semantic Web datasets provided by different publishers in a decentralized environment calls for efficient support from distributed computing technologies. Moreover, we argue that the highly dynamic ad-hoc settings that would be pervasive for Semantic Web data sharing among personal users in the future pose even more demanding challenges for enabling technologies. We propose an architecture that is based upon the peer-to-peer (P2P) paradigm for ad-hoc Semantic Web data sharing and identify the key technologies that underpin the implementation of the architecture. We anticipate that our (current and future) work will offer powerful support for sharing of Semantic Web data in a decentralized manner and becomes an indispensable and complementary approach to making the Semantic Web a reality. © 2012 IFIP International Federation for information processing.
