Discrete Hartley transform (DHT) is an important tool in digital signal processing. In this paper, based on our previous work of performing DHT via linear sums of discrete moments, we have made development to eliminate multiplications in discrete Hartley transforms by performing appropriate bit operations and shift in binary system, which can be implemented by integer additions of fixed points. An efficient and regular systolic array is designed to implement it, and the complexity analysis is also given. Different to other fast Hartley transforms, our algorithm can deal with arbitrary length signals and get high precision. The approach is also applicable to multi-dimensional DHT and DHT inverses.

Context is an important factor for the success of dynamic service composition. Although many context-based AI or workflow approaches have been proposed to support dynamic service composition, there is still an unaddressed issue of the support of fine-granularity context management. In this paper, we propose a granularity-based context model together with an approach to supporting the intelligent context-aware service composing problem. The corresponding case study is provided to show the validity of our approach.

At present GrC mainly is divided into three categories: computing with words (CW), rough set (RS) and quotient space (QS). From the perspective of essential characteristic of GrC, this demarcation is not comprehensive and accurate. In fact, CW is based on fuzzy granules (fuzzy subset) and both RS and QS are based on disjoint granules, which essentially are equivalence classes, either equal to each other or with empty overlap. In practical application, intersecting granules however need to be handled. Therefore there is another kind of GrC which is based on intersecting granules. This kind of GrC is referred to as tolerance GrC (TGrC) in our work. By constructing a Boolean algebra on super-granular space and a decision algebraic system, this paper will present an incomplete information system-based TGrC. With the TGrC, an example about extracting rules incomplete information is given, so as to show its basic principle.

Traditional image interpolation methods assume that the local spatial structure of the low-resolution (LR) and high-resolution (HR) images are approximately the same, and use edge information of the LR image to estimate the missing pixels. This assumption, however, no longer holds for natural images with fine and dense textures. Consequently, those methods cannot restore dense textures well and tend to generate over-fitting visual effects. In this paper, a learned HR image prior is exploited to overcome the problems. In particular, we use Fields of Experts (FoE) with student's t-distribution experts to model the prior, taking advantage of its representative ability of non-Gaussian natures in images. Then Maximum a Posterior (MAP) estimation incorporating FoE prior is used to estimate the missing pixels. Experimental results compared with traditional interpolation methods demonstrate that our method not only can recover fine details and produce superior PSNR values, but also avoid the visual over-fitting problems.

Manually annotated corpora are valuable but scarce resources, yet for many annotation tasks such as treebanking and sequence labeling there exist multiple corpora with different and incompatible annotation guidelines or standards. This seems to be a great waste of human efforts, and it would be nice to automatically adapt one annotation standard to another. We present a simple yet effective strategy that transfers knowledge from a differently annotated corpus to the corpus with desired annotation. We test the efficacy of this method in the context of Chinese word segmentation and part-of-speech tagging, where no segmentation and POS tagging standards are widely accepted due to the lack of morphology in Chinese. Experiments show that adaptation from the much larger People's Daily corpus to the smaller but more popular Penn Chinese Treebank results in significant improvements in both segmentation and tagging accuracies (with error reductions of 30.2% and 14%, respectively), which in turn helps improve Chinese parsing accuracy.

Potential faults have greatly reduced the dependability of business processes, so fault diagnosis is becoming an important issue which aims at supporting self-healing service flow execution. The existing fault handling mechanism provided by BPEL can only identify the faults which have been pre-defined in standards or by users. However, unexpected faults are also the main cause of failures in service flow execution. Therefore an effective diagnosis approach is needed to solve this problem. In this paper, we propose a logic-based approach for diagnosing unexpected faults in Web service flows. This approach uses dynamic description logic (DDL) to model business processes, and diagnoses faults based on DDL reasoning. We provide the DDL-based diagnosing algorithm, which takes process description and runtime information as inputs, and returns the related information of possible faults as the result. Moreover, to improve the efficiency of online diagnosis, the incremental DDL-based diagnosing algorithm is presented. Experimental results on a demo system show the effectiveness of this approach.

This paper presents a parallel artificial immune model termed as tower master-slave model (TMSM) for solving optimising problems. Based on TMSM, the parallel immune memory clonal selection algorithm (PIMCSA) is also proposed. TMSM is a two level coarse-grained parallel artificial immune model with distributed immune response and distributed immune memory. In PIMCSA, vaccines are extracted and migrated between populations rather than individual migration as has been done in parallel genetic algorithms. It is a good balance between population diversity and the convergent speed. Experimental results on the numerical optimization and TSP problems show that PIMCSA achieves good performance in terms of both solution quality and computation time.

Gaze movement plays an important role in human visual search system. In literature, the winner-take-all method is wildly used to simulate the controlling of the gaze movement. The winner-take-all is a type of single-cell coding method, which uses one cell (grandmother cell) or one response to represent an object. However, eye movement is affected by the visual context which includes more than one object in images, especially in target search. Therefore, we propose to use the population coding with more than one response rather than the single-cell coding on gaze movement control. The proposed method is supported by the theoretical analysis and experiments on a real image database which show the population-cell-coding improves the target locating accuracy by 44.4% only at the cost of coding 22.4% more information than that of single-cell-coding.

Entity Homepage Recognition(EHR) is an important part of entity finding. In this paper, a method of EHR based on AdaBoost is proposed. With the help of Google, this method recalls pages related to answer entities and recognizes to obtain the relevant entity homepage. In detail, Person, Organization and Product, three types of entities are analyzed respectively and 3148 entities and the corresponding entity homepages are collected, besides, on the basis of entity characteristic, we define the entity features related to the features of link and webpage content, as well as, these features are extracted to form a training data set;And then using different learning algorithms with different features to identify the homepage to find the most effective classification features and homepage recognition learning algorithm. Experiments were done by employing the test data set of entity task in TREC-2009 and the method of 10-fold cross validation, the results show the best effects have been achieved by adopting the method of AdaBoost, specifically, combined with the features of link and webpage content, the recognition accuracy rate for right homepage reaches 91.34%. 1553-9105/ Copyright © 2009 Binary information Press.

This paper proposes a novel descriptor, granularity-tunable gradients partition (GGP), for human detection. The concept granularity is used to define the spatial and angular uncertainty of the line segments in the Hough space. Then this uncertainty is backprojected into the image space by orientation-space partitioning to achieve efficient implementation. By changing the granularity parameter, the level of uncertainty can be controlled quantitatively. Therefore a family of descriptors with versatile representation property can be generated. Specifically, the finely granular GGP descriptors can represent the specific geometry information of the object (the same as Edgelet); while the coarsely granular GGP descriptors can provide the statistical representation of the object (the same as histograms of oriented gradients, HOG). Moreover, the position, orientation, strength and distribution of the gradients are embedded into a unified descriptor to further improve the GGP's representation power. A cascade structured classifier is built by boosting the linear regression functions. Experimental results on INRIA dataset show that the proposed method achieves comparable results to those of the state-of-the-art methods.
