Federated Learning (FL) mitigates privacy leakage in decentralized machine learning by allowing multiple clients to train collaboratively locally. However, dynamic mobile networks with high mobility, intermittent connectivity, and bandwidth limitation severely hinder model updates to the cloud server. Although previous studies have typically addressed user mobility issue through task reassignment or predictive modeling, frequent migrations may result in high communication overhead. Addressing this challenge involves not only dealing with resource constraints, but also finding ways to mitigate the challenges posed by user migrations. We therefore propose a intertemporal incentive framework, FedCross, which ensures the continuity of FL tasks by migrating interrupted training tasks to feasible mobile devices. FedCross comprises two distinct stages: Specifically, in Stage 1, we address the task allocation problem across regions under resource constraints by employing a multi-objective migration algorithm to quantify the optimal task receivers. Moreover, we adopt evolutionary game theory to capture the dynamic decision-making of users, forecasting the evolution of user proportions across different regions to mitigate frequent migrations. In Stage 2, we utilize a procurement auction mechanism to allocate rewards among base stations, ensuring that those providing high-quality models receive optimal compensation. This approach incentivizes sustained user participation, thereby ensuring the overall feasibility of FedCross. Finally, experimental results validate the theoretical soundness of FedCross and demonstrate its significant reduction in communication overhead. In response to the challenge of global path planning difficulties for automated guided vehicle in complex environments, traditional ant colony algorithms face several issues such as long search times, unordered search, and difficulty in finding the optimal route. We propose an optimized ant colony algorithm with potential field, named PFACO, that combines heuristic search and artificial potential field methods, along with the utilization of the pruning algorithm for secondary optimization of turning points. Specifically, we introduce improved potential fields and design heuristic functions to guide ants to swiftly navigate through unordered search states. After that, we incorporate the Triangle Pruning Algorithm (TPA) to perform secondary optimization by connecting turning points along the path. Simulation experiments demonstrate that PFACO, compared to both traditional Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) algorithms and other improved ACO algorithms, achieves an average improvement of 93% and 78% in convergence speed, and an average optimization of 25.26% and 3.25% in path length, respectively, across various map conditions. The results show that PFACO has better global search capability, higher quality of convergence to the optimal solution, shorter generated path lengths, and greater robustness than other variants of the ant colony algorithm.

Due to the sensitivity of data, Federated Learning (FL) is employed to enable distributed machine learning while safeguarding data privacy and accommodating the requirements of various devices. However, in the context of semi-decentralized FL, clients’ communication and training states are dynamic. This variability arises from local training fluctuations, heterogeneous data distributions, and intermittent client participation. Most existing studies primarily focus on stable client states, neglecting the dynamic challenges inherent in real-world scenarios. To tackle this issue, we propose a TRust-Aware clIent scheduLing mechanism called TRAIL, which assesses client states and contributions, enhancing model training efficiency through selective client participation. We focus on a semi-decentralized FL framework where edge servers and clients train a shared global model using unreliable intra-cluster model aggregation and inter-cluster model consensus. First, we propose an adaptive hidden semi-Markov model to estimate clients’ communication states and contributions. Next, we address a client-server association optimization problem to minimize global training loss. Using convergence analysis, we propose a greedy client scheduling algorithm. Finally, our experiments conducted on real-world datasets demonstrate that TRAIL outperforms state-of-the-art baselines, achieving an improvement of 8.7% in test accuracy and a reduction of 15.3% in training loss. Extended reality (XR) technologies and applications have grown rapidly in recent years. In addition to providing immersive ultra-high-definition (UHD) video, XR also allows for a haptic experience where devices can be remotely manipulated to accomplish tasks. However, varying numbers of XR users accessing the communication system can strain limited spectrum resources, posing challenges in resource allocation. Therefore, this paper studies resource blocks (RBs) allocation problem in a downlink transmission scenario where real-time cloud XR video and haptic contents need to be transmitted simultaneously. We also consider the random variation in the number of XR users and propose an Adaptive Distributed Multi-Agent Deep reinforcement learning (DRL) combined with Transformer (ADMA-DcT) for dynamic RB allocation method. This method addresses the dynamic change in network input dimensions due to user number variability using a state division module and a self-attention mechanism in the encoder module. To our knowledge, this is the first work to study the RB allocation problem in Cloud XR transmission considering simultaneous transmitting of video and haptic services with a dynamically changing user base. Our extensive simulations show that the ADMA-DcT model, end-to-end trained, outperforms other benchmarks in successfully serving a larger number of XR users under varying user number conditions, demonstrating excellent adaptivity and robustness. © 2014 IEEE.

Three-Dimensional (3D) dense captioning is an emerging vision-language bridging task that aims to generate multiple detailed and accurate descriptions for 3D scenes. It presents significant potential and challenges due to its closer representation of the real world compared to 2D visual captioning, as well as complexities in data collection and processing of 3D point cloud sources. Despite the popularity and success of existing methods, there is a lack of comprehensive surveys summarizing the advancements in this field, which hinders its progress. In this paper, we provide a comprehensive review of 3D dense captioning, covering task definition, architecture classification, dataset analysis, evaluation metrics, and in-depth prosperity discussions. Based on a synthesis of previous literature, we refine a standard pipeline that serves as a common paradigm for existing methods. We also introduce a clear taxonomy of existing models, summarize technologies involved in different modules, and conduct detailed experiment analysis. Instead of a chronological order introduction, we categorize the methods into different classes to facilitate exploration and analysis of the differences and connections among existing techniques. We also provide a reading guideline to assist readers with different backgrounds and purposes in reading efficiently. Furthermore, we propose a series of promising future directions for 3D dense captioning by identifying challenges and aligning them with the development of related tasks, offering valuable insights and inspiring future research in this field. Our aim is to provide a comprehensive understanding of 3D dense captioning, foster further investigations, and contribute to the development of novel applications in multimedia and related domains. BIG-MOE: BYPASS ISOLATED GATING MOE FOR GENERALIZED MULTIMODAL FACE ANTI-SPOOFING

In the domain of facial recognition security, multimodal Face Anti-Spoofing (FAS) is essential for countering presentation attacks. However, existing technologies encounter challenges due to modality biases and imbalances, as well as domain shifts. Our research introduces a Mixture of Experts (MoE) model to address these issues effectively. We identified three limitations in traditional MoE approaches to multimodal FAS: (1) Coarse-grained experts’ inability to capture nuanced spoofing indicators;(2) Gated networks’ susceptibility to input noise affecting decision-making;(3) MoE’s sensitivity to prompt tokens leading to overfitting with conventional learning methods. To mitigate these, we propose the Bypass Isolated Gating MoE (BIG-MoE) framework, featuring: (1) Fine-grained experts for enhanced detection of subtle spoofing cues;(2) An isolation gating mechanism to counteract input noise;(3) A novel differential convolutional prompt bypass enriching the gating network with critical local features, thereby improving perceptual capabilities. Extensive experiments on four benchmark datasets demonstrate significant generalization performance improvement in multimodal FAS task. The code is released at https://***/murInJ/BIGMoE. Prompting Video-Language Foundation Models with Domain-specific Fine-grained Heuristics for Video Question Answering

Video Question Answering (VideoQA) represents a crucial intersection between video understanding and language processing, requiring both discriminative unimodal comprehension and sophisticated cross-modal interaction for accurate inference. Despite advancements in multi-modal pre-trained models and video-language foundation models, these systems often struggle with domain-specific VideoQA due to their generalized pre-training objectives. Addressing this gap necessitates bridging the divide between broad cross-modal knowledge and the specific inference demands of VideoQA tasks. To this end, we introduce HeurVidQA, a framework that leverages domain-specific entity-action heuristics to refine pre-trained video-language foundation models. Our approach treats these models as implicit knowledge engines, employing domain-specific entity-action prompters to direct the model’s focus toward precise cues that enhance reasoning. By delivering fine-grained heuristics, we improve the model’s ability to identify and interpret key entities and actions, thereby enhancing its reasoning capabilities. Extensive evaluations across multiple VideoQA datasets demonstrate that our method significantly outperforms existing models, underscoring the importance of integrating domain-specific knowledge into video-language models for more accurate and context-aware VideoQA. Fine-tuning pre-trained language models, such as BERT, has shown enormous success among various NLP tasks. Though simple and effective, the process of fine-tuning has been found unstable, which often leads to unexpected poor performance. To increase stability and generalizability, most existing works resort to maintaining the parameters or representations of pre-trained models during fine-tuning. Nevertheless, very little work explores mining the reliable part of pre-learned information that can help to stabilize fine-tuning. To address this challenge, we introduce a novel solution in which we fine-tune BERT with stabilized cross-layer mutual information. Our method aims to preserve the reliable behaviors of cross-layer information propagation, instead of preserving the information itself, of the pre-trained model. Therefore, our method circumvents the domain conflicts between pre-trained and target tasks. We conduct extensive experiments with popular pre-trained BERT variants on NLP datasets, demonstrating the universal effectiveness and robustness of our method.

Enhancing Sample Utilization in Noise-robust Deep Metric Learning with Subgroup-based Positive-pair Selection

The existence of noisy labels in real-world data negatively impacts the performance of deep learning models. Although much research effort has been devoted to improving the robustness towards noisy labels in classification tasks, the problem of noisy labels in deep metric learning (DML) remains under-explored. Existing noisy label learning methods designed for DML mainly discard suspicious noisy samples, resulting in a waste of the training data. To address this issue, we propose a noise-robust DML framework with SubGroup-based Positive-pair Selection (SGPS), which constructs reliable positive pairs for noisy samples to enhance the sample utilization. Specifically, SGPS first effectively identifies clean and noisy samples by a probability-based clean sample selectionstrategy. To further utilize the remaining noisy samples, we discover their potential similar samples based on the subgroup information given by a subgroup generation module and then aggregate them into informative positive prototypes for each noisy sample via a positive prototype generation module. Afterward, a new contrastive loss is tailored for the noisy samples with their selected positive pairs. SGPS can be easily integrated into the training process of existing pair-wise DML tasks, like image retrieval and face recognition. Extensive experiments on multiple synthetic and real-world large-scale label noise datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed method.
