FedCross: Intertemporal Federated Learning Under Evolutionary Games

Federated Learning (FL) mitigates privacy leakage in decentralized machine learning by allowing multiple clients to train collaboratively locally. However, dynamic mobile networks with high mobility, intermittent connectivity, and bandwidth limitation severely hinder model updates to the cloud server. Although previous studies have typically addressed user mobility issue through task reassignment or predictive modeling, frequent migrations may result in high communication overhead. Addressing this challenge involves not only dealing with resource constraints, but also finding ways to mitigate the challenges posed by user migrations. We therefore propose an intertemporal incentive framework, FedCross, which ensures the continuity of FL tasks by migrating interrupted training tasks to feasible mobile devices. Specifically, FedCross comprises two distinct stages. In Stage 1, we address the task allocation problem across regions under resource constraints by employing a multi-objective migration algorithm to quantify the optimal task receivers. Moreover, we adopt evolutionary game theory to capture the dynamic decision-making of users, forecasting the evolution of user proportions across different regions to mitigate frequent migrations. In Stage 2, we utilize a procurement auction mechanism to allocate rewards among base stations, ensuring that those providing high-quality models receive optimal compensation. This approach incentivizes sustained user participation, thereby ensuring the overall feasibility of FedCross. Finally, experimental results validate the theoretical soundness of FedCross and demonstrate its significant reduction in communication overhead. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Detecting Heterogeneous Lakes Using Contrastive Representation from Remote Sensing Imagery

Lakes are among the most frequently occurring features observed in remote sensing imagery on Earth, which construct the part of water resource and supplying a great deal of life downstream. To assess water coverage and its regional or global impacts, identifying lakes in remote sensing imagery is a prerequisite as well in such lake-related studies. However, the diverse environmental conditions under which lakes form, the presence of mixed sediments leads to considerable spatial and spectral heterogeneity, making it challenging for existing methods to accurately detect heterogeneous water bodies. In this work, we proposed a weakly-supervised contrastive representation method for finding the inherent universal natures of lakes with sediments. Our model comprised two modules, spatial segmentation module and spectral contrastive module for capturing the spatial and spectral features of lakes jointly. Then the patterns of lakes were compared with similarities to unlabeled samples and final lake area was extracted by decision making process. We tested our model on Landsat-8 OLI imagery, and our model yielded F1 score of 79.86±0.94 and IoU of 70.85±0.91, which showed great superiority to other competitors, especially in these lakes with sediments. © 2004-2012 IEEE.

CA-Edit: Causality-Aware Condition Adapter for High-Fidelity Local Facial Attribute Editing

For efficient and high-fidelity local facial attribute editing, most existing editing methods either require additional finetuning for different editing effects or tend to affect beyond the editing regions. Alternatively, inpainting methods can edit the target image region while preserving external areas. However, current inpainting methods still suffer from the generation misalignment with facial attributes description and the loss of facial skin details. To address these challenges, (i) a novel data utilization strategy is introduced to construct datasets consisting of attribute-text-image triples from a data-driven perspective, (ii) a Causality-Aware Condition Adapter is proposed to enhance the contextual causality modeling of specific details, which encodes the skin details from the original image while preventing conflicts between these cues and textual conditions. In addition, a Skin Transition Frequency Guidance technique is introduced for the local modeling of contextual causality via sampling guidance driven by low-frequency alignment. Extensive quantitative and qualitative experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of our method in boosting both fidelity and editability for localized attribute editing. As the number of patent applications increases yearly, the negation relation between patents has become intertwined, which makes it difficult for constructing negation relation in patent examination manually. Therefore, how to automatically construct negation relation between patents has become the hot research. Constructing negation relation is the process of comparing technical features between patents, which depends on the technical features in the patent claims and the technical function-effect. Although there are many researches on patent one-to-one negation, few researches on patent multi-to-one negation. The research on negation relation of multi-to-one patents, has the following challenges: (1) the definition of patent features is ambiguous in comparison of negation relation;(2) the role of patent function-effect is often ignored in judgement of negation relation. To solve the above issues, we propose a technical function-effect based patent multi-to-one negation game model. In the model, we decompose patent technical features into technical utility and technical function-effect. Patent technical utility is mainly realized by using the valence theory in linguistics. After obtaining technical utility, we choose to have the same technical effect, express the technical features of different technical functions, and obtain the patent technical function-effect. Finally, we combine the technical utility and function-effect to construct a technical utility/function-effect game tree to judge the patent negation relation. According to the two-tailed test in the A/B-test, our model outperforms the baseline model in the evaluation measurement. This model can subsequently be used to calculate the portfolio value and the strategic value of the patents. © 2022 IEEE.

Dynamic Erasing Network Based on Multi-Scale Temporal Features for Weakly Supervised Video Anomaly Detection

The goal of weakly supervised video anomaly detection is to learn a detection model using only video-level labeled data. However, prior studies typically divide videos into fixed-length segments without considering the complexity or duration of anomalies. Moreover, these studies usually just detect the most abnormal segments, potentially overlooking the completeness of anomalies. To address these limitations, we propose a Dynamic Erasing Network (DE-Net) for weakly supervised video anomaly detection, which learns multi-scale temporal features. Specifically, to handle duration variations of abnormal events, we first propose a multi-scale temporal modeling module, capable of extracting features from segments of varying lengths and capturing both local and global visual information across different temporal scales. Then, we design a dynamic erasing strategy, which dynamically assesses the completeness of the detected anomalies and erases prominent abnormal segments in order to encourage the model to discover gentle abnormal segments in a video. The proposed method obtains favorable performance compared to several state-of-the-art approaches on three datasets: XD-Violence, TAD, and UCF-Crime. With the rapid development of the Internet of Things (IoT), computation offloading collaboration has become an important solution to address the data processing challenges faced by resource-constrained devices. However, security and privacy issues have become a major concern in the computation offloading collaboration process. This paper proposes a blockchain-assisted computation offloading collaboration scheme, Blockchain-Assisted Computation Offloading Collaboration (BACOC). The scheme uses blockchain technology to assist computation offloading collaboration under IoT conditions to fortify security and resilience during the computation offloading process. At the same time, a hierarchical game model based on Stackelberg game theory and contract theory is adopted to determine the optimal service pricing strategy. Experimental and simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness and feasibility of the BACOC scheme. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Overcoming the capacity bottleneck of single-mode fiber (SMF), we exploit the exceptionally low-loss and low-nonlinearity characteristics of hollow-core fiber (HCF) to demonstrate a 198-channel × 40 Gbaud polarization multiplexed 256QAM (PM-256QAM) WDM system over a 20.6 km nested anti-resonant nodeless fiber (NANF) transmission link. A hardware-efficient, low-complexity carrier recovery algorithm is employed, relying entirely on polarized misaligned pilot symbols for robust frame synchronization and high-precision carrier recovery, eliminating the need for training sequences. Compared to conventional methods constrained by fourth-power operations and pilot symbol intervals, our approach offers a wider frequency offset estimation (FOE) range and enhanced carrier phase recovery (CPR). Experimental results demonstrate that the bit error rate (BER) of all 198 WDM channels remains below the 20% soft-decision forward error correction (SD-FEC) threshold, achieving spectral efficiencies of 12.8 bit/s/Hz in the C-band and 13.1 bit/s/Hz in the L-band. Benefiting from the unique properties of HCF, the system demonstrates superior performance compared to conventional single-mode fiber, particularly at high launch powers. This work paves the way for future ultra-high-capacity, low-latency optical networks, providing a viable technological path for next-generation communication systems.

Specific emitter identification(SEI) plays an increasingly crucial and potential role in both military and civilian scenarios. It refers to a process to discriminate individual emitters from each other by analyzing extracted characteristics from given radio signals. In this paper, we present a novel radiation source identification method named CNNFormer based on a hybrid architecture of Convolutional Neural Network and Transformer, harnessing the strengths of both architectures to enhance feature extraction and sequence modeling. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach on simulation datasets, achieving state-of-the-art accuracy in emitter identification. We showcase outstanding performance of our method on simulation datasets, achieving 98.29% three-class identification accuracy the emitter dataset with three devices and 97.60% ten-class identification accuracy on an RF fingerprint dataset with ten XSPR transmitters. Furthermore, our model allows for insight into the key features contributing to identification. This work contributes to enhancing the security and reliability of wireless communication systems.
