The complementary benefits from visible and thermal infrared data are widely utilized in various computer vision task, such as visual tracking, semantic segmentation and object detection, but rarely explored in Multiple Object Tracking (MOT). In this work, we contribute a large-scale Visible-Thermal video benchmark for MOT, called VT-MOT. VT-MOT has the following main advantages. 1) The data is large scale and high diversity. VT-MOT includes 582 video sequence pairs, 401k frame pairs from surveillance, drone, and handheld platforms. 2) The cross-modal alignment is highly accurate. We invite several professionals to perform both spatial and temporal alignment frame by frame. 3) The annotation is dense and high-quality. VT-MOT has 3.99 million annotation boxes annotated and double-checked by professionals, including heavy occlusion and object re-acquisition (object disappear and reappear) challenges. To provide a strong baseline, we design a simple yet effective tracking framework, which effectively fuses temporal information and complementary information of two modalities in a progressive manner, for robust visible-thermal MOT. A comprehensive experiment are conducted on VT-MOT and the results prove the superiority and effectiveness of the proposed method compared with state-of-the-art methods. Vector Field-Guided Circumnavigation for an Unmanned Surface Vehicle With Boundary and Obstacle Constraints

This article aims to tackle the challenge of rapid target circumnavigation by unmanned surface vehicles (USVs) under boundary and obstacle constraints through leveraging an emerging computing architecture specifically tailored for unmanned systems. Owing to the underactuation of USV dynamic systems and the presence of various time-varying surface disturbances, attaining rapid and accurate position control along with maneuverability poses a significant challenge to USVs. Therefore, when an USV maneuvers around a target in a confined search area with obstacles, it is essential for the guidance law to consider collision risks and environmental disturbances. This paper proposes a modified Lyapunov vector field with heading deviation compensation to circle the target in complex search regions. The vector field is designed to increase the radial velocity of the USV and accelerate convergence towards the target circle during the pursuit phase. By combining the proposed Lyapunov vector field with a boundary vector field, the USV can swiftly avoid boundaries and dynamic obstacles and then continue circling the target. The proposed computing architecture extends the application scope of the target circumnavigation to practical water surface environments, which is validated by extensive simulations and rigorous experiments. © 2025 IEEE.

Stress Severity Detection in College Students Using Emotional Pulse Signals and Deep Learning

College students face increasing stress from difficulties with studies, employment, and social interactions, which, if left unaddressed, may lead to depression and physical illnesses. Currently, the detection of stress severity relies on self-assessment scales, while machine learning or deep learning-based approaches primarily focus on classification. This study proposes an approach using pulse signals containing emotional cues and deep learning to automatically detect the severity of stress in college students. Firstly, pulse signals of 177 college students were collected using photoplethysmography (PPG) during they watched five virtual reality (VR) emotional scenes, including calm, sadness, happiness, fear, and tension. Pulse rate variability (PRV) and discrete PPG (dPPG) were extracted from these signals as input for detecting stress severity. Then, the proposed stress detection framework, 1DCNN-BiLSTM + Cross-Attention + XGBoost, was employed to detect stress severity, incorporating an emotional Cross-Attention mechanism. The impact of induced emotions on stress severity detection performance was examined. The results indicated that stress severity detection in emotional scenes outperformed in calm. Furthermore, the detection performance that integrates multiple emotions surpassed single emotions. The fusion of PRV and dPPG signals yielded the best detection performance. This study provides an end-to-end automated approach for detecting stress severity in college students. © 2010-2012 IEEE.

According to the miniaturization characteristics of step impedance resonators, a step impedance bandpass filter with a center frequency of 16.55 GHz and a bandwidth of 500MHz is designed. The effects of parameter changes such as substrate resistivity and the shape of metal via etching on the performance of the filter are studied. Finally, the filter is fabricated and its performance is tested under MEMS technology.

The capability of the reward model (RM) is crucial for the success of Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback (RLHF) in aligning with human preferences. However, as training progresses, the output space distribution of the policy model shifts. The RM, initially trained on responses sampled from the output distribution of the early policy model, gradually loses its ability to distinguish between responses from the newly shifted distribution. This issue is further compounded when the RM, trained on a specific data distribution, struggles to generalize to examples outside of that distribution. These two issues can be united as a challenge posed by the shifted distribution of the environment. To surmount this challenge, we introduce MetaRM, a novel method leveraging meta-learning to adapt the RM to the shifted environment distribution. MetaRM optimizes the RM in an alternating way, by preserving both the preferences of the original preference pairs, as well as maximizing discrimination power over new examples of the shifted distribution. Extensive experiments demonstrate that MetaRM can iteratively enhance the performance of human preference alignment by improving the RM’s capacity to identify subtle differences in samples of shifted distributions. Optical networks-on-chips (ONoCs) have emerged as the most promising solution for on-chip interconnection networks, offering distinct advantages such as high bandwidth and low latency. However, traditional wired-based ONoCs often suffer from a high average number of hops, leading to challenges such as increased insertion loss, crosstalk noise, and energy consumption. Therefore, this paper presents a novel ONoC structure known as the metasurface ONoC (MSONoC), which integrates wired waveguide and free-space optical (FSO) transmission with the assistance of metasurfaces. Specifically, this work encompasses the design of a passive metasurface structure tailored for ONoCs, a virtual network cluster partitioning method, an optical metasurface access points select strategy, and a shortest-path routing algorithm. Performance verification is conducted using a modified Noxim simulator. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed MSONoC offers advantages over traditional NoCs, radio frequency (RF)-based hybrid wired/wireless NoCs, and wired-based ONoCs in terms of throughput, delay, energy consumption, and signal-to-noise ratio under both synthetic traffic and real traffic models. These improvements proves the effectiveness of the MSONoC architecture in optimizing network performance, making it a promising solution for high-performance, energy-efficient communication in on-chip networks. © 2017 IEEE.

The spatial diversity and multiplexing advantages of massive multi-input-multi-output (mMIMO) can significantly improve the capacity of massive non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) in machine type communications. However, state-of-the-art grant-free massive NOMA schemes for mMIMO systems require accurate estimation of random access channels to perform activity detection and the following coherent data demodulation, which suffers from excessive pilot overhead and access latency. To address this, we propose a pre-equalization aided grant-free massive access scheme for mMIMO systems, where an iterative detection scheme is conceived. Specifically, the base station (BS) firstly activates one of its antennas (i.e., beacon antenna) to broadcast a beacon signal, which facilitates the user equipment (UEs) to perform downlink channel estimation and pre-equalize the uplink random access signal with respect to the channels associated with the beacon antenna. During the uplink transmission stage, the BS detects UEs' activity and data by using the proposed iterative detection algorithm, which consists of three modules: coarse data detection (DD), data-aided channel estimation (CE), and fine DD. In the proposed algorithm, the joint activity and DD is firstly performed based on the signals received by the beacon antenna. Subsequently, the DD is further refined by iteratively performing data-aided CE module and fine DD module using signals received by all BS antennas. Our simulation results demonstrate that the proposed scheme outperforms state-of-the-art mMIMO-based grant-free massive NOMA schemes with the same access latency. © 1967-2012 IEEE.

Collaborative Metric Learning (CML) has recently emerged as a popular method in recommendation systems (RS), closing the gap between metric learning and Collaborative Filtering. Following the convention of RS, existing methods exploit unique user representation in their model design. This paper focuses on a challenging scenario where a user has multiple categories of interests. Under this setting, we argue that the unique user representation might induce preference bias, especially when the item category distribution is imbalanced. To address this issue, we propose a novel method called Diversity-Promoting Collaborative Metric Learning (DPCML), with the hope of considering the commonly ignored minority interest of the user. The key idea behind DPCML is to include a multiple set of representations for each user in the system. Based on this embedding paradigm, user preference toward an item is aggregated from different embeddings by taking the minimum item-user distance among the user embedding set. Furthermore, we observe that the diversity of the embeddings for the same user also plays an essential role in the model. To this end, we propose a Diversity Control Regularization Scheme (DCRS) to accommodate the multi-vector representation strategy better. Theoretically, we show that DPCML could generalize well to unseen test data by tackling the challenge of the annoying operation that comes from the minimum value. Experiments over a range of benchmark datasets speak to the efficacy of DPCML.
