For large current, switching devices such as MOSFET and IGBT, often have to be connected in parallel. Due to this reason, derating and preselection of the switching devices become necessary to develop high-power converters. The current imbalance can be produced by stray inductances, device characteristic difference or asymmetric circuit. Moreover, thermal imbalance is another important reason for current balancing. The static and transient characteristics of an IGBT vary sensitively with its junction temperature. This paper focuses on the current sharing of IGBTs in parallel with thermal imbalance. In this paper, an active gate control method which can achieve current balancing of the IGBTs in parallel with thermal imbalance, is explained and verified by experiments. This method can be applied to an actual 160kW/380V power electronics converter prototype for improving the utilization of the switching devices and enhancing system reliability.

This paper describes the effect of magnetic field on tracking failure of gamma-ray irradiated polybutylene naphthalate (PBN), polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) and polyethylene terephthalate (PET). The experiment was carried out by applying a dc pulse voltage under magnetic field. The magnetic flux density (MFD) of the magnetic filed was 495 mT and the direction of E×B was 0, 90 and 270 degrees with respect to the sample surface. The PBN, PBT and PET were irradiated in air up to 100 kGy and then up to 1000 kGy with a dose rate of 10 kGy/h by using a 60 Co gamma-source. Obtained results revealed that the tracking failure was greatly changed by gamma-ray irradiation and magnetic field.

The vibration signals of wind turbines are highly nonlinear and non-stationary due to wind turbine operation conditions that are very complicated. The signals will be more complex when a fault occurs. Aiming at these problems, a fault diagnosis method for direct-drive wind turbine is presented based on back propagation neural network (BPNN). The time-domain feature parameters of vibration signals in the horizontal and vertical direction are considered in the method. Five experiments of direct-drive wind turbine with normal, wind wheel mass imbalance, wind wheel aerodynamic imbalance, yaw and blade break are carried out in laboratory scale. Through analyzing the features of five conditions, the time-domain feature parameters in horizontal and vertical direction of the vibration signal are selected as the input samples of BPNN. By training, the BPNN model can be constructed between feature parameters and fault types. The validity of the BPNN model is verified using test samples. The results indicate that the proposed method has higher diagnostic accuracy. It can used in on-line fault diagnosis of direct-drive wind turbines.

This paper introduces synergetic theory and proposes multi-path load forecasting automatically coordinated approach based on the maximum entropy principle. Taking the expectation and second order central moment of forecasted results into account and using the maximum entropy principle,this synergetic load forecasting method receives the probability distribution function of the forecasted values and obtains the final high, middle and low forecasting scheme based on the probability theory. Case study has shown the model and method mentioned above can take the affection of the conflicts among different forecasting path into account in forecasting, resulting in higher precision of load forecasting.

Monkey algorithm (MA) is one of the evolution algorithms originally developed for optimization problems with continuous variables. In this paper, a discrete monkey algorithm (DMA) was proposed for transmission network expansion planning, one discrete optimization problem. It includes the representation of solution, the modification of objective function, climb process, watch-jump process, cooperation process, somersault process, stochastic perturbation mechanism and termination criteria. Large-step and small-step climb process are designed to avoid the disordered climb direction during the MA optimization process. Cooperation process and stochastic perturbation mechanism are also introduced to improve computational efficiency. The proposed method is applied to a 18-bus system and the IEEE 24-bus system. Numerical results demonstrate that DMA has powerful computational capability and is capable of solving different dimensions of expansion planning problems efficiently with small population size.

A novel method, which utilizes harmonic for excitation, is presented to adjust the air-gap magnetic field for permanent magnet synchronous machine. The structure and basic principles of the hybrid excitation PM synchronous generator(HEPMSG) are introduced. The no-load and on-load electromagnetic field are calculated based on finite element method, and the waveform and effective value of the winding voltage and characteristics of the machine are gained for different loads. Calculation results demonstrate the new hybrid excitation scheme is feasible. This new method combines the advantages of PM machines and electrical excitation machines. The machine removes the brushes and slip rings, which makes permanent magnet machine keep simple and highly reliable.

In the assumption that all load nodes are installed reactive power compensation device, injecting a variety of disturbances to the grid, through the application of improved ant colony algorithm, we can obtain the optimal control sequence under disturbance, that is current switching reactive power compensation device node location. Comparing control sequences under the various perturbations, with circulation mechanism of successive exclusion, the best installation location of reactive power compensation devices is obtain, while the system voltage deviation smaller, improving power system operation economy. In this paper, there is a planning example, the results show that the proposed method is feasible.

In allusion to the traditional UFLS scheme's deficiencies of changeless frequency setting value and amount of load shedding of every run, this paper proposes improved UFLS scheme which can alter the frequency setting value of the first run and the amount of load shedding of every run dynamically according to the magnitude of frequency change rate, namely the insufficient amount of active power. The simulation results of stand-alone model show that the reformative UFLS scheme can restrain the frequency falling depth effectively, fit speed controller preferably, make full use of system rotating spare capacity, and reduce the amount of load shedding and the possibility of over-cut or owes-cut.

In view of real-time and operational requirements of the speed control system for generating, the method of determining the traditional PID control parameters seriously affected by the operator due to the use of the experience, not accurate enough. This paper proposed chaotic particle swarm optimization (PSO) and adjustment methods based on the traditional PID in the electro-hydraulic control, establish the state equation of the speed control system, and thus to design generator speed control system based on chaotic particle swarm optimization algorithm. The simulation experiments show that the regulator has better robustness and real-time compared to the traditional PID control method, and can provide optimal control in the light of the different types of the running point and the interference.

The paper analyses the existed protection of microgrid. And in order to meet the requirements of microgrid protection, a novel protection is presented in this paper. The protection based on local information without the need of communication, uses current traveling waves to identify faulted feeder, and the bus bar voltages to determine a event caused by fault or switch operation. In the protection scheme, current traveling waves are measured by current transducers in N line and phase lines, and wavelet multi-resolution analysis is used to decompose traveling wave signals. The initial traveling waves are compared in magnitude and polarity with each other to determine the faulted feeder. The protection is independent of microgrid operation connected with the main power grid or in island.
