This paper presents a novel combined algorithm based on particle swarm optimization (PSO) and simulated annealing algorithm(SA) for power system reactive optimization. According to the characteristics of PSO and SA, the proposed method which combined PSO and SA efficiently makes good use of easily implementing performance and fast convergence performance of PSO and global convergence performance of SA, and makes them search in phase. This paper detailed explains coding of control variables, selecting of parameters and material steps of combined algorithm for optimizing reactive power. Taking the IEEE 14-bus system, IEEE 57-bus system and IEEE 118-bus system for example, the simulation results demonstrate that the proposed method is simple and easy to implement, and has high computing efficiency and comparing with conventional PSO it can obtain higher quality solutions.

At present, the load modeling is still one of the difficult problems in power system. In this paper, a new method is presented which uses wide-area measurements and support vector machine (SVM) for load modeling. Based on wide-area measurements, this method does non-linear regression analysis on model with SVM. By using radial basis function (RBF), model structure is optimized, and Bayesian Framework is used for identifying parameters, then a kind of non-mechanical model is founded. This method can easily solve the problems in choosing structure and identifying parameters. The founded model has good generalization ability, flexible structure, and rapid calculation speed. In the end, this method has been programmed; the simulation verifies the validity of this model.

The effect of interfacial pressure on the insulation breakdown of the interface between a piece of XLPE and a piece of silicon rubber was investigated. A pair of plate-needle electrodes was sandwiched at the interface. A uniformly distributed weight was put on the sample with the interfacial pressure from 20 kN/cm2to 300 kN/cm2. The breakdown voltage and the discharge current were recorded;the light distribution at the interface were visually recorded and then analyzed. Results demonstrate that correlation exists between the discharge light and discharge current;breakdown voltage decreases with the decrease of interfacial pressure;both the distributions of light and current depend on the interfacial pressure. Therefore, sufficient interfacial pressure between cable and joint should be met to lengthen the cable joint's life expectation.

Security Constrained Distributed Optimal power Flow of Interconnected power systems

The security constrained distributed optimal power flow （DOPF） of interconnected power systems is presented. The centralized OPF problem of the multi-area power systems is decomposed into independent DOPF subproblems, one for each area. The dynamic security region （DSR） to guarantee the transient stability constraints and static voltage stability region （SVSR） constraints, and line current limits are included as constraints. The solutions to the DOPF subproblems of the different areas are coordinated through a pricing mechanism until they converge to the centralized OPF solution. The nonlinear DOPF subproblem is solved by predictor-corrector interior point method （PClPM）. The IEEE three-area RTS-96 system is worked out in order to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

The unintentional islanding of micro-grid may cause negative impacts on distribution loads and distributed generations,so it must be detected within the acceptable *** this paper a new islanding detection algorithm is *** algorithm introduces the frequency feedback method by the reactive power compensation to derive the frequency continuous shift. Accordingly,the islanding can be detected by monitoring the frequency within 0.1 *** simulation results prove that this algorithm has extremely small non-detection zone,and meanwhile it presents an excellent islanding detection speed as well.

Modeling of Busbars in High power Neutral Point Clamped Three-Level Inverters

The busbars in high power neutral point clamped three-level inverters are modeled using the Maxwell Q3D Extractor software, which is based on the partial element equivalent circuits method. The equivalent circuits of the busbars and devices model are simulated in the electric simulator PSlM to analyze the effects of the parasitic inductance on the switching characteristics of the integrated gate commutated thyristor （IGCT） in different topology positions. The simulation results agree well with the measured impedance analyzer results and the IGCT test results, which proves the effectiveness of the modeling method for the large, complex busbars.

Overvoltage Suppression for UHV Transmission Lines

The overvoltage phenomena of ultra high voltage (UHV) transmission lines are analyzed and verified by EMTDC/PSCAD simulation. Referring to the theoretical analyses and operating experiences of extra high voltage (EHV) transmission lines in China and UHV transmission lines in Russia and Japan, the methods to suppress the internal overvoltage in UHV transmission lines by protection and control strategies are discussed. Through the cooperation among the recloser, shunt reactor, tripping and closing resistance, and metal oxide varistor(MOV), the overvoltage can be restrained within an acceptable level.

A diagnostic signal current trace detecting based single phase-to-ground fault line identifica- tion and section location method for non-effectively grounded distribution systems is presented in this paper.A special diagnostic signal current is injected into the fault distribution system,and then it is detected at the outlet terminals to identify the fault line and at the sectionalizing or branching point along the fault line to locate the fault *** method has been put into application in actual distribution network and field experience shows that it can identify the fault line and locate the fault section correctly and effectively.

This paper develops a novel model and an algorithm of security region based real and reactive power pricing of power *** the proposed model,the reactive power production cost is represented as the opportunity *** static voltage stability region in the cut set power space(CVSR) and the practical dynamic security region(PDSR) in the injection power space are used to represent the constraints of voltage stability and transient stability,so that the consideration of this kind of constraints in the optimization becomes very *** the proposed algorithm,a decoupled optimization and iteration method of active power production cost and reactive power production cost is *** to the K-T optimality conditions,the prices of active power and reactive power,and the different components corresponding to the concerned security constraints are *** components of spot prices can reflect the influence of different node power injections on each kind of security constraints,so that through the node price all of the participants in power market can be stimulated to take an active part in maintaining the system *** illustrative example on the New England 10-genetator 39-bus system is used to demonstrate the proposed method.

Instantaneous energy balancing plays an important role in power electronics conversion. The unbalance of electromagnetic energy not only debases the system performance but also decreases the reliability and efficiency of the conversion. In this paper, instantaneous energy balancing problems in three-level neutral point clamped (NPC) converters are classified and discussed. Typical examples and their usual solutions of each kind of problems are expounded and compared. In the end of this paper, limitations and disadvantages of traditional methods are analyzed, and electromagnetic field method is summarized as the new trend to analyze electromagnetic energy transmission and exchange. The method using electromagnetic field theory is emphasized to be the better approach to solve the aforementioned energy balancing problems. © 2008 IEEE.
