With the continuous development of maritime-hardware systems, intelligent decision making in port transport becomes increasingly more important. There are three types of waterways in China, which is specific about one-way waterways, two-way waterways, and compound waterways. Modelling of vessel-scheduling optimization in ports aims at giving a concrete contribution to efficient, safe, and environmentally friendly maritime transport. The model will service to innovative the e-navigational shipping industry, which can lay the groundwork for a future vessel traffic service (VTS). These studies assess the effects of channel and berth resources to improve the operation efficiency of ports using a multi-objective vessel scheduling-optimization model. Taking the minimum total scheduling and waiting times of vessels, the model was established based on these waterways by considering safety, efficiency, and fairness. To solve the proposed model, a multi-objective genetic algorithm (MOGA) was used in this paper. Compared with the first-come, first-served (FCFS) scheduling method, the capacity-conversion times of vessels entering and leaving a port and the total scheduling time are decreased efficiently. These works contribute to improving the safety and optimization of ship scheduling catering to the intelligence trends of future maritime service portfolios (MSP). © Springer International Publishing AG 2018.

In order to generate a continuous radar simulation image to meet the practical need of navigation simulator, a method is presented to generate radar simulation data extracted from multi-scale S-57 standard electronic charts. In this paper, outliers index algorithm based on forward distance is presented firstly to clip the boundary line. Then buffers are built to merge and de-duplicate data according to characteristics of the data fragmentation. Finally, the average edge-matching method and the attenuation edge-matching method based on error distribution theory are provided to connect the gap automatically between two images according to the scale and the data density of charts. In this paper, 13 pieces of S-57 standard electronic charts around Rizhao Port are taken as an example. The simulation results show that the radar image is clear and the line is smooth, which can reach the purpose of physical and logical seamless contiguity of the radar image. Marine transportation quality is largely affected by the port service level;however, the contextual inquiry shows that the vessel schedule is now a stage of manual schedule. The situation when the vessels gather inbound or outbound may cause port congestion, especially in some adverse weather. Based on the analysis of vessel schedule in the port, this paper proposes a mathematic model for vessel schedule in one-way fairway. In order to calculate the model, we design a code based on the particle position and use discrete particle swarm optimization (DPSO) algorithm to get the schedule order. The simulated test verifies that the algorithm is completely convergent in 150 generation and the maximum waiting time is 117 minutes. The result demonstrates that it can reduce the waiting time when compared with the "First-Come, First-Served" rules. © Copyright owned by the author(s) under the terms of the Creative Commons.

Large container ships can only be anchored in deep trunk port, which needs container feeder service to transit and transport the cargos from of trunk ship, thus creating a shaft- spoke maritime transport mode. So, the electronic chart system in marine simulator is adopted to design routes and calculate the ETA of two ports, with consideration of vessel maneuverability and actual turning radius. In considering the limit of time it takes from the feeder port to the hub port and the ships capacity, the shortest ship sailing time is taken as the objective function, and then one mixed integer programming model is established for the container vessels regional transportation. By using the heuristic tour route coding, its solution based on genetic algorithms is presented, and it can achieve route selection. Finally, with ship capacity 150 TEU, the numerical evaluation was conducted by the operation of the ship program calculation, and the results show that when after 95 iterations the total journey time reached minimum 403.0h with 6 optimal routes.

Real-time simulation of large scale terrain in helicopter simulator

The real-time simulation of large scale tenain has been broadly applied to GIS, VR, military simulation, etc. In order to meet the requirements of visual system of helicopter simulator, this paper researched on modeling and the real-time rendering technology of large scale terrain. The terrain data was obtained from Google Earth, the 3D terrain model was created in ArcScene and LOD of terrain model was created in Creator to improve the real-time performance of simulation. The texture data matched with terrain was obtained from GetScreen. Finally, real-time rendering was realized by using OSG. The experimental results prove that the method presented in the paper can meet the requirements of helicopter simulator. © 2013 Asian Network for Scientific Information.
