The problem of knowledge-aided (KA) covariance matrix estimation in airborne radar space-time adaptive processing (STAP) is studied in this paper. In the traditional KA covariance matrix estimation methods, the insufficient number of available samples and inaccurate prior knowledge can cause serious deterioration of STAP performance. To tackle this problem, a new KA covariance matrix estimation algorithm based on geometric mean is proposed. Specifically, by utilizing the persymmetric structure information as well as the geometric mean in the space of positive definite matrices, a geometric mean estimator is constructed, which is then linearly combined with the prior covariance matrix to obtain a new type of CCM estimators. Simulation results illustrate that the proposed algorithm has good STAP performance with small samples and inaccurate prior knowledge. © The Institution of Engineering & Technology 2023.

The Traditional Chinese Medicine Health Status Identification plays an important role in TCM diagnosis and prescription recommendation. In this paper, we propose a method of Status Identification via Graph Attention Network, named SIGAT, which captures the complex medical correlation in the symptom-syndrome graph. More specifically, we construct a symptom-syndrome graph in that symptoms are taken as nodes and the edges are connected by syndromes. And we realize automatic induction of symptom to state element classification by using the attention mechanism and perceptron classifier. Finally, we conduct experiments by using hamming loss, coverage, 0/1 error, ranking loss, average precision, macro-F1 score, and micro-F1 score as evaluation metrics. The results demonstrate that the SIGAT model outperforms comparison algorithms on Traditional Chinese Medicine Prescription Dictionary dataset. The case study results suggest that the proposed method is a valuable way to identify the state element. The application of the graph attention network classification algorithm in TCM health status identification is of high precision and methodological feasibility. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

A Dual-band Monopole Antenna with EBG for Wearable Wireless Body Area Networks

This paper proposes a dual-band wearable monopole antenna adopting an electromagnetic band-gap (EBG) structure, which operates at 2.45 and 5.8 GHz ISM bands and is suitable for wearable applications. Both the monopole antenna and the EBG structure are fabricated on an F4B semi-flexible substrate having a dielectric constant of 2.2. The EBG structure effectively isolates the human body from the radiation of the antenna and reduces the specific absorption rate (SAR) of it by more than 97.5%. This improves the antenna gain and the peak gain reaches 9.1 dBi at 5.8 GHz. The wearable performance of the antenna showed that it can sustain good performance even under realistic human body loading. Besides, the antenna has a small size, which makes it ideal for wearable applications. © ACES

In this paper, distributed fuzzy predictive control (DFMPC) for nonlinear systems with a coupled objective function is investigated. Firstly, the original nonlinear subsystem is reformulated as Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy models, thereby enabling the application of certain linear system properties, such as the design of a terminal set and corresponding local controllers within the optimization framework. Subsequently, an interval predictor is devised by taking positive and negative mapping of the fuzzy system matrices. Based on the interval predictor, the DFMPC optimization problem is reconstructed to eliminate non- convexity resulting from membership functions (MFs) and their associated premise variables. This approach allows for solving the DFMPC optimization problem independently of the specific shapes of the MFs and premise variables. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed Algorithm is verified through its implementation in a two-cart-damp-spring simulation example.

Drug discovery is a major focus of modern research, and predicting drug-target interactions is one of the strategies to facilitate this research process. Traditional laboratory methods have long time cycles and are relatively costly, so the use of high-precision virtual screening is essential. Previous virtual screens have only considered the sequence structure of the drug or the graph structure of the drug, without considering the role of the drug subgraph structure. Therefore, this paper adopts a method for extracting drug subgraphs and designs a strategy for extracting drug subgraph fingerprints. Then, the fingerprint vector data of the drugs are trained by the graph neural network to produce drug information vectors containing the spatial structure of the drug subgraph. Finally, the subgraph attention mechanism is used to update the information on protein targets, facilitating the model to extract more information about the target site. The experimental results show that the model can predict drug-target interactions well, outperforming the state-of-the-art model in all metrics. And it is also effective in both classification prediction and affinity regression prediction. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2023.

FreqAlign: Excavating Perception-oriented Transferability for Blind Image Quality Assessment from A Frequency Perspective

Blind Image Quality Assessment (BIQA) is susceptible to poor transferability when the distribution shift occurs, e.g., from synthesis degradation to authentic degradation. To mitigate this, some studies have attempted to design unsupervised domain adaptation (UDA) based schemes for BIQA, which intends to eliminate the domain shift through adversarial-based feature alignment. However, the feature alignment is usually taken at the low-frequency space of features since the global average pooling operation. This ignores the transferable perception knowledge in other frequency components and causes the sub-optimal solution for the UDA of BIQA. To overcome this, from a novel frequency perspective, we propose an effective alignment strategy, i.e., Frequency Alignment (dubbed FreqAlign), to excavate the perception-oriented transferability of BIQA in the frequency space. Concretely, we study what frequency components of features are more proper for perception-oriented alignment. Based on this, we propose to improve the perception-oriented transferability of BIQA by performing feature frequency decomposition and selecting the frequency components that contained the most transferable perception knowledge for alignment. To achieve a stable and effective frequency selection, we further propose the frequency movement with a sliding window to find the optimal frequencies for alignment, which is composed of three strategies, i.e., warm up with pre-training, frequency movement-based selection, and perturbation-based finetuning. Extensive experiments under different domain adaptation settings of BIQA have validated the effectiveness of our proposed method. The code will be released at https://***/lixinustc/Openworld-IQA. Automatic defect detection on wood surface is essential for ensuring product quality. Semantic segmentation methods have shown outstanding performance in wood defect detection. However, it is costly to acquire correct pixel-level labels of wood surface defects due to the complicated characteristics. To mitigate the cost of acquiring high-quality datasets, this study proposes a semi-supervised defect detection approach based on generative adversarial networks, which contains a generator and a discriminator. The generator is utilized to generate pixel-level segmentation results of wood defect images. To improve the segmentation performance, the discriminator learns against the generator by judging the goodness of the prediction results and generates supervised signals for the prediction results of unlabeled images. With this learning model, the proposed method can enhance segmentation performance using unlabeled images and alleviate the burden of data annotation. We validate the effectiveness of the proposed approach on a collected dataset of wood defects. Experimental results demonstrate the remarkable performance of our method even when utilizing only a small amount of annotated data.

The increase in frequency and intensity of Extreme High-temperature Events(EHEs)over Central-Eastern China(CEC)in recent decades has severely impacted social development and *** observation and reanalysis datasets,this study explores the effect of the East Asian subtropical westerly jet stream(EAJ)on the CEC EHEs for the summers spanning 1979–*** its general relative location to the right side of the upper-level jet stream exit region,CEC would theoretically suffer more EHEs with a stronger and northwardly-shifted EAJ in summer due to the likelihood of abnormal subsidence induced by the ***,such an EAJ–EHE connection has been unstable over the past four decades but has displayed an evident interdecadal *** the late 1990s,the interannual variation of the EAJ was manifested mainly by its meridional displacement in the northeastern part of East Asia;thus,the atmospheric responses were essentially located to the east of CEC,exerting less of an influence on the CEC ***,since the late 1990s,the EAJ variation has featured an intensity change in its center over the northwest portion of the CEC,which has resulted in a westward shift in atmospheric responses to cover the CEC ***,the EAJ could potentially affect the summer CEC EHEs during 2000–*** findings offer support for an in-depth understanding of the formation mechanisms of extreme weather/climate events of this nature and thus provide a scientific reference for seasonal climate predictions.

This paper studies the tracking control problem of high-order fully actuated system subject to input constraints. Since there exist input constraints, an inappropriate reference signal being tracked may cause actuator saturation and further cause system instability. For solving the problem, we firstly design a generalized proportional differential controller to ensure the stability of the closed-loop system without input constraints. Then, an explicit reference governor is constructed to modify the reference signal such that the applied reference signal never exceeds the saturation limits, and the equilibrium of the resulting closed-loop system is globally asymptotically stable. Furthermore, we prove that the applied reference will converge to the original reference as much as possible. Therefore, the system output finally converges to the original reference by tracking the applied reference. A numerical example demonstrates the validity of the proposed method in this paper.

The quantification of aerosol direct radiative effects (ADREs) under clear sky conditions is essential for understanding the influence of aerosols on climate. This paper introduces a novel approach, the non-uniform five-dimensional lookup table (NU-5D-LUT) method, for calculating the ADREs under clear sky conditions. The NU-5D-LUT method considers key parameters such as aerosol optical thickness, single scattering albedo, asymmetry factor, surface albedo, and solar zenith angle. Validation against the SBDART model shows strong agreement, with correlation coefficients of 0.97 and 0.99 for TOA and BOA ADREs, respectively. Global comparisons demonstrate consistent ADRE distributions, with relative errors below 5.8% for TOA ADRE and 4.4% for BOA ADRE. The NU-5D-LUT method significantly reduces computation time, offering a practical solution for large-scale simulations and climate model evaluations in aerosol research.
